OK, I am finished waffling. I have decided to drop my plan for coming up on Saturday, and will do a day trip on Sunday. I have a couple of zoos for Edmonton Eskimo (It really hurts to type that), and one for Jim. I would very much like to park close to the South end of the city, and get someone to transport me to the meeting. There were previous offers from Lee, and Richer. I am wondering if we could firm that up over the next week. We also have to hope the weather holds.

Edmonton Eskimo 11-21-2004 04:28 PM

hey Bob you can park at my house if you want. I live on the south side(right off the whitemud)

BlkWolfe 11-21-2004 05:56 PM

Bev, ive got some 14k arcs sitting on the shelf

you want a ballast and reflector or just need the bulb?

And you are going to the meeting, and I have some zoos for you, so that would be great. If sometime you could post exact directions to your house, or PM me if you don't want that to be public knowledge, I would appreciate it.

I have a 20K Arc sitting around that is too blue for me. Do you want to trade

Speaking of metal halides I am going to upgrade my lighting. Does anyone have any ballasts, bulbs or setups they would like to sell. I am not picky on wattage or anything as I am going to make a custom hood anyways. Was looking at 250 watts. Like I said not picky

Edmonton Eskimo 11-21-2004 10:21 PM

Bob pm sent

Have you talked to Jim (kuatto)? He has/had a bunch of 400W MH setups available last I talked to him.

Ya I saw that on his other post and I inquired but I haven't heard anything

muck 11-21-2004 11:48 PM

I believe all the ones he has left are spoken for...
Maybe when Jim is not so busy he can clarify this.

All spoken for.I think 400watts would be too much if its going over your 50gal.A new 250 magnetic ballast(cap an coil)will only cost you 50-60 bucks and another 10 for the socket.

Edmonton Eskimo 11-22-2004 02:10 AM

Where do you get those ballasts kuatto. Also where can I get cheap bulbs. Or is 90 bucks at j+l a good price

kuatto 11-22-2004 02:23 AM

check the yellow pages under lighting.
Aquariacanada.com might still have cheap bulbs.

Edmonton Eskimo 11-22-2004 02:32 AM

Thanks Jim

Richer 11-22-2004 04:50 AM

I got my ballasts at bartle and gibson on fort rd. The other locations don't have them... I found that out the hard way. One day, I'll learn to use that magical invention called the telephone

Edmonton Eskimo 11-22-2004 05:26 AM

How much are they for a 250 watt ballast and everything I'll need to wire it. Are they pretty simple?

Richer 11-22-2004 05:32 AM

Quoted from a post I made in the DIY section a while ago...

M59 75.00(400wt)
They also carry the mogule sockets.I did my own lighting with the m58 and I didn't burn anything down in the process  Keep in mind some of the magnetic ballasts come with a light coat of oil, which when heated up stinks like hell.It goes away in a couple of days.

I got two sockets and a 36" reflector from J&L.

If I can wire this thing up without frying myself, I'm sure anyone can. If you have any questions about wiring up the ballast, just ask. There are quite a few people here who have wired up MH ballasts.

Hey Bev,

Sorry but it looks as though I will unable to make it to the meet. A family function just came up, and right after that I have a hockey game.

Just a reminder......

If you are picking up frags, please bring your own containers and/or bags as we don't have any on hand. We do have elastics and frag glue, though, if any are needed

Also, sorry to the latecomers who have asked to come. Our apartment condo is going to be packed with those already on the list and we cannot accomodate more bodies  Hopefully someone with larger digs will host another meeting in the near future :smilecol:

Murminator 11-26-2004 04:53 PM

What works for conatiners?? small cooler, zip lock, tupperware??

If anyone has big salt buckets they no longer need I could use some for mixin water if you could bring them and I'll pick them up after the meeting so we don't fill Bev's house

Richer 11-26-2004 05:05 PM

Plastic bags (non-leaking of course), rubber bands, plastic tubs with lids, etc. will work. Coolers are convient but not really needed.

mr_alberta 11-26-2004 05:17 PM

Well, looks like Karen will be staying home with our youngest daughter :frown: She's come down with a touch of a stomach flue and needs Mom's special care.So its just me and the other fella   (John,I'll pick you up around 2ish)

Bob I 11-28-2004 04:38 PM

I am afraid a couple of things conspired to keep me from coming to the meeting.
#1 - I had to make a couple of frags last night to satisfy the Edmonton people. Since I want to give frags time to settle down before I sell them there is obviously no time.

#2 - This is the biggie. I was unable to motivate myself, and started to see large obstacles, ie. having to drive for four hours in the dark.

If someone had been coming along for the drive, it might have happened. Someone beating on the door at eight AM saying "let's go" would have done the trick.

So I am sorry it did not happen. Perhaps in the future when conditions are better it will happen.

Edmonton Eskimo 11-28-2004 09:01 PM

I'm sorry I couldn't make it Bev. Our daughter ended up needing to be picked up in red deer so she had our vehicle. I thought this was ok because Bob was supposed to meet at my place. I was wondering where he was and low and behold when I look here I see where he is. Stuff happens I guess. I hope to meet you guys soon!

kuatto 11-29-2004 12:09 AM

Just wanted to give a big thanks to Bev and Chris for hosting the meet.Met a few new people and the food was terrific  Even though I didn't get my red zoos,I still managed to walk out with a couple of red shrooms
Sooo....when the next meet?????

Richer 11-29-2004 12:18 AM

Yes, the food was great
