Well, after living in Prince George BC for a good portion of my younger life, I can say I have a large understanding of foresty issues. The whole town survives by the forest. The Pine Beattle issue asside (cuz we all know it is devesatating and needs to be taken care of). As a whole, we all need to start to think about alternative methods of harvesting our forest and also using alternative materials such as hemp plantations etc. Clear cutting is 100% the worst possible forestry practice. I don't know how anyone can say otherwise. To say forest fires are bad is a huge mistake, they are actualy required for some tree's seeds to begin to grow. Also, forest fires do not remove every tree from the ground, it leaves the root systems intact and unless it was a particularly intense fire the majority of the tree's are alive and well. Up in PG, they simply burn the scraps. I've never seen them mulch it and spread it.
We are the only species on earth that does not live in balance with the rest of the world. Too that end we need to think ahead and think smart. It cannot always be about $$ (although unfortunately thats how it is for the most part)
