So awhile ago I got a couple of little maxima clams from Red Coral. They're just gorgeous but a bit difficult to keep on one spot due to the huge flow in my tank and general largeness of everything compared to a 1" clam. So out came my little sandbed once again.

Course with any sand in my tank comes a saga. Because of the flow in my tank, I had to turn off the vortech pump which is directly behind the container, otherwise the tank would have been a sandstorm. This lack of flow resulted in increased cyano growth in that area (cyano is rampant once again in my tank :rolleyes:).

Upon entry of the sandbed to water, my wrasse immediately recognised it as his old bed and it was like watching a dieter and a donut reunite. 12h later, there was considerably less sand in it. In the ensuing days, there was less sand in the container and more in the tank. The wrasse was also flipping the clams out of the container as he didn't want to share. The clams were protected up against the glass and the container so I just left them there.

One morning I go down to the tank to check on them, the littler one is missing. WTF? Its not anywhere in the tank. Oh no, its in the rockwork. Way up high in the rockwork. Great, now my fish are carting them around like toys. I remove the clam and place it back in the container which is now floating because it doesn't have any sand in it. I weigh it down with a rock. In the next few days I rescue the small clam once again and surprisingly the larger clam as well from various spots in the tank.

So I've had it. This is my solution. Clams....in a container... with the rock.. and a tomato bag cinched up over the whole shebang. Hopefully this covers all the bases. I siphoned all the sand out so there will be no more frolicking in the 3mm of sand that covered the bottom and no more carting the clams all over the place. I hope they grow fast! :wink:

What is that slithery-looking thing sitting on the Turbinaria in the first pic? Looks like an Engineer Goby or something similar?

Wow what a hassle. If ever there was an excuse for an inline clam tank that sounds like it haha.

Thats a lined or klausewitz's blenny. Damned thing jumped last week :(

What is the colorful little fish in the left side of the tank? Just below the blennie.

That would be a talbots damsel. Great little fish. I have 4 of them :biggrin:
