Why not? LEDs would be perfect for this size of tank as the cost savings in bulb replacements would be huge.

Why not is right, SW is expensive enough & I'm not replacing bulbs every 8 month.

It's getting my huge DIY LED that I built last yr.

I think (as your awesome friend) that some day you should build me DYI LED lights for my 80g and my 230g. I figure it would give you something to enjoy doing in your spare time :razz:

You have tons of it, you even posted pics of you lazing around in your tank, claiming to be cleaning it, but I think you were taking a nap!!

I just read through this whole thread, and all I have to say is...

So how exactly are you plumbing the closed loop again?

Seriously though, I have massive, massive scratch repair envy. I might actually consider getting you to come out to my place at $100/hour to fix the scratches on my tank if they weren't all half way down on the inside. You did a stellar job.

So enough is enough, please no more jokes, mention's, innuendos or references to a closed loop.

The Grizz 05-03-2013 01:44 AM

UPS showed up today ( a week before expected to boot ) with a box of goodies  tuned to a  when I seen they sent me threaded gate valves instead of slip. On the up side they sent me 2 extra 1 1/2" valves.

blacknife 05-03-2013 01:49 AM

at least after you add all those threaded slip couplers you can reuse the gates.... -1 on the mis-ship...

Confused.... Reuse? :noidea:

I don't plan on adding any thread - slip couplers as that increases the chances of a leak so I'm simply going to remove the threads & make them slips that is unless they are going to ship me new ones for free.

fishytime 05-03-2013 02:20 AM

holy crap man!....thats more valves than a water treatment plant!

My plan is to have complete control over the flow in every section of the tank.

lastlight 05-03-2013 06:02 AM

Ask a mod they can remove all your threads.....lol j/k

If it was me I would use some sort of sanding drum or hole saw with sand paper attached to drill out the threads. I was able to just drill it out on 1/2" stuff but have never tried it on the larger scale

I use my die grinder with a metal bur bit, zips them out in seconds just have to be careful not to go to far or it will be to big to fit the pipe.

The Grizz 05-03-2013 05:55 PM

Just heard back from the supplier of my gate valves, they are sending me new ones out right away & don't want me to send them the threaded ones back :surprise: now that is customer service!!

This project needs some progress first before pictures. Hope to start the plumbing this week now that I have the proper gate valves I ordered.

lastlight 05-21-2013 03:14 PM

MOAR OMG PLZ.

The Grizz 05-23-2013 04:48 AM

Managed to get some of the overflow plumbing done tonight while I only had the complete use of one shoulder, stressed the right shoulder to much working & now it's EXTREMLY painful. Finish it up tomorrow night & take a few pics.

The Grizz 05-25-2013 03:55 AM

Ok so after a copious amount of pain dullers I managed to get 99.99% of my dual bean animal overflows dry fitted ( not glued yet ) just to make damn sure I have it te way I have in visioned. So enough yak yak yakin, here's some digital images.
