you should come by and see the tank and pros in person :)

Thanks pat buddy , lately it hasn't looked to nice , I'm currently way over stocked , I desperately need to get my skimmer upgrade going .

The scoly has been fed pellets for a long time at the aqua culture facility so every hour when my pellets are being fed to the achilles its going nuts thinking its getting fed too lol

Looking good bro. Not quite so jam packed. I like this approach more. And wow that's a sweet scoly. I'd love one but need to stockpile slowly to buy one to hide the costs lol.

I guess this time Denny chose to jam pack with fishes instead of corals :P

Delphinus 04-05-2013 02:06 PM

I like the look, great little bommie.

Do you have to target feed the tube 'nem or does it do pretty good scavenging on its own?

ruslicus 04-05-2013 02:14 PM

Nice tank Denny, as usual!!!

i do feed it daily but im pretty sure it would fair well with out it seems to be very hardy the opics never show it but tall the tentacles have splatters of neon green on them and the whole face is neon green as well , pretty cool piece:)

well he cant stay forever so im just making sure i have a good home lined up for him when hes ready to go , hes still pretty small at about 3-4" so ill have him for a little bit still but he will get to be too big sooner or later.

i wont have a hard time finding a home for him because of his species but i just want to make sure he goes to a experienced reefer with a mature large tank:)

thanks good buddy .

well finally decided on my skimmer upgrade so last week i decided to take home a csc450 and plug her in:mrgreen::mrgreen:

ok so my sump space is 12" x 12" the footprint on the csc450 is 11 7/8" x 11 7/8" .............pretty tight lol

had to drain my sump to get it in, clear out some other randomness and a week later shes chugging black nasty goo lol:)

was going to go the diablo route but not quite enough clearance:(

thanks guys , next post is update time and newssssssssssss!!!

reefwars 04-20-2013 01:15 AM

so update for the bonsai.

recently went through a tough battle where in the end there is no winning.i have decided to do a rebuild on the bonsai tree , unfortunately digitate hydroids have consumed the tank , my only defense was a dozen peps who couldnt keep them under control , since i have an army of wrasses replacing the peps is getting expensive since they are losing any way.

how bad is it??

well the hydroids do not seem to bother the corals with the exception of zoanthids , my whole collection is at another reefers tank so im not too worried about that but the real threat is the liverock in genberal. the combination of sponges and hydroids have destroyed the rock , one square inch of rock has about 200 hydroids on it.....my whole structure is covered.

the hydroids are also magnets for ditrius and holds the dirt making the tank look dirty and not allowing it to be sumped.

so we are doing a rebuild and tossing the old rock, these types of hydroids are not easy to get rid of like colonial hydroids are but have less of a sting too.

the corals are going into qt and all corals with hydroids will be treated to harsh h2o2 dips untill either the coral dies or the hydroids do. certain expensive corals will be hand picked of hydroids and dipped a bit more carefully.

they will go into qt untill the new structure is in place.

the new tree is going to be slightly different.

weve done a dry run to see how it would look before we made the call and the new tree will be built like this.

i am using a dozen pieces of tonga branch to create the tree trunk, then quality fiji liverock to add a tree type shape to the top, in our dry runs it looked very good and offered more space between rocks vs being one whole rock structure.

basically we are going for an even more realistic look of a tree vs the typical one we have now.

the structure will be slightly larger to incorporate new lps.

other than that i upgraded my skimmer from a asm g2 with mesh mod to a csc450 which will skim the fish right out the water lol

ive taken the carbon off line temporarily(never liked it anyways) untill i decide where i want to store it in the sump.

right now i need more flow

i had:

1 x mp10@ 100%
1 x mp40@ 100%
1 x koralia 1400

i added 3 x koralia 1400 which puts me well over 100x flowrate, with the increased skimmer size this should work well.i will switch out the koralias with mp40's in a few weeks once everything else settles in.....baby steps right?

fish are all getting along great still cant get the achilles to eat frozen but he eats pelltes non stop in fact about a bottle a week.......fat bugger lol ive also named him zeus which for me isnt normal i dont name fish lol

well ill see where i am in the next couple of weeks but untill the change over with the rock wont be much to update.

Update time :

Tore down the bonsai and redid the rock work , threw out the old rock and fresh start , corals are cleared of hydroids alot got tossed or lost :( decided to remove my Sandbed as I'm a high flow kinda guy I left a 4" strip of sand 2" thick for the wrasses at the back of the tank from the front looks BB.stuck with the original layout of an island with a tank 30" wide it's a better look and more space and territories for the fish.

Also added a couple fish which puts me at border line over stocked lol I'm currently asking summer Santa for a larger tank :p

My current livestock:

Achilles tang
Flame wrasse super male
Flame wrasse females x 2
Hawaiian flame angel
Black leopard wrasse
Breeding trio of pj cardinals
Peppermint hogfish
Psychedelic mandarin
Target mandarin
Scooter dragonet
Pair of Trojan clownfish
Single goldband Maroon clown
Melanarus wrasse
Mystery wrasse
Rainfords goby
Lunar wrasse

Way overstocked lol trying to see who can go but they mingle so well together. Seen my rainfords goby yesterday for the first time since I put him in the tank , all he ever did in the other tank was hide anyways lol still have 2 female flame wrasses to add to the cluster puck of it all :pp

Will post some pics of the new layout and get them posted once I get some I like lol this is pretty much the girlfriends tank now ill be starting on an sps only tank this summer and stealing some of my fish gonna go Hawaiian or Aussie theme for fish and corals :)

Cheers

Denny

fishoholic 05-22-2013 06:46 PM

I like seeing how stuffed others tanks are, but 20 fish in a 75g wow that's a lot! Makes me feel like my tanks are no were near full in comparison   but seriously that is a heck of a lot of fish, defiantly upgrade or rehome time

My 80g list
2 filefish (one wasn't doing his job so I got another one, and they seem to get along fine)
2 lion fish (fuman chu and fuzzy red dwarf)
Tiara anthia
Blue star leopard wrasse
Thornback boxfish
Kuiteri leopard wrasse
Orange diamond goby

9 in total not to bad, especially for me

it is but is very hardy i dont directly feed it anymore and ive given a few frags to people who also dont feed it , as far as nps gorgs goes this is considered the hardiest species to start with , want a frag?;P

update time i guess

so this tank has seen some major changes some good and some bad .

iove had to tear down this tank and reset it up from scratch three times now , all because of the digitate hydroids, i was for certain that throwing out my rock and corals would cure this but it hitchhiked back from some coral i didnt have the heart to toss.....stupid decison and now i had to toss the rock out again along with any remaining corals :(

to add to the stress i played the russian roulette too many times with fish and i recently added a flame angel and flame wrasse from the same order to my tank and it wiped out my fish, went from 26 fish to 12 in a couplle days, right now all my fish are in treatment and the tank is fallow untill fall.

out of all my fish the only ones saved were my flame wrasse pair, lawnmower blenny, scooter dragonette, 3 clowns and 3 cardinals and my melanarus wrasse and peppermint hogfish.....the rest lost i was lucky to save the ones i did by acting fast and setting up a 100g treatment tank........honestly i dont even feel like adding fish back to the display as its a nice calm look so im still deciding if i will keep the fish i have left or not

all my highend corals are gone , i managed to pull the zoas out a few months ago before they got infected but all my sps, lps and rock are garbaged.

heres some pics of how the tank sits now, simple layout simple corals nothing fancy.

debating on whether or not to get the new ati fixture in replacement of my radion pros im not feeling them and having a hard time finding reasons to tell myself why im keeping them lol

recently pulled out all my sand as well with all this hassel...

http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps25e43bd5.jpg

http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps794acb32.jpg

http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps501d3dcb.jpg

http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps32b72cab.jpg

with the mass loss of corals, rock and now fish we are deciding what route to take with the tank untill we come up with some ideas its going to sit idle and do its thing.....wasnt a total write off i saved my gorgs which didnt seem affected by the hydroids same with my hammer coral and my tube anemone.

some ideas we are thinking:

adding a moray eel as the only occupant

adding seahorses and changing the tanks design completely

doing either a frogfish or scorpion fish as the only occupant

going freshwater and adding two of the ugliest gold fish i can find( ok not gonna happen i know lol)

cheers

denny
