At the risk of pointing out another problem, you can install bulkheads either way but the gasket should always go on the flanged side and not the nut side. So with your orientation the gasket should be on the outside, otherwise water can leak out through the threads.

PS, I just want to help to prevent problems, not state things now just to through it in your face later.

Salt2Death 10-04-2012 03:28 AM

No worry! But definitely thank you as its not my first rodeo (or sump), there are many ways to do stuff and not all of them the same. It's why these sites exist, show other ways and ideas and grab suggestions.....

Can't leak through the treads if there is silicone*

"suggestions are welcome, as long as people understand they don't always know the only way. If there was just one way to do things this site would be so useless lol"

I don't get it? I mean sure many ways to do things and I like learning new methods but why would you opt for realying on siliconing treads instead of installing the bulkhead properly with gasket on flange side? Seems strange but to each there own I guess... Just don't think I'd go recommending that approach to others.

This is what I didn't want to get into, but ya, this is an issue you're going to have with your bulkheads .....

OMG, don't tell me you are going to rely on silicone to seal your fittings ??? !!!

OK, I'm not going to follow along anymore :surprise:

StirCrazy 10-04-2012 01:15 PM

listen to them, install the bulkheads the proper way. silicone will not seal very good in a bulkhead, I add a think layer of silicone to all parts but I install the gasket the proper way also.

and yes there usaly are two ways to do something the proper way and the wrong way. don't set yourself up for problems using the wrong way. I did this myself, which is why I know. I had one with the gasket on the wrong side and one proper (was 1/2 asleep when I put my plumbing togeather) anyways both were siliconed also and 2 years later the one started to leak and it was the one with the gasket on the wrong side.

no big deal, next time you do a water change it is easy to fix.

Steve

Do you find the fish hing out at the drop off, or just swim all over the tank like in a normal tank.

The tank looks great.

reefwars 10-09-2012 11:54 PM

great tank I want to do one like that as well.
I have a couple questions is the tank 12mm tempered glass and what hole size did they drill in the drop down corner. There must be a small radius there right??
Thanks Rob

Any updates?

Salt2Death 02-01-2013 04:28 AM

Been a while and we have had a few harsh battles.....
Lost many fish sadly most were with us for years and many moves.
Not a coral loss.... Outside a nippy fish or too. (But its hard to reprimand a fish I have found)
Purple is growing great.

Shout out to Red Coral (Steave & Doug) always big help and top notch live stock, Blue World (Ken) 1st class customer service, and alway a big one to Phil (Zoas like none other)

Updates: 3x TLF 150 reactors (2carbon 1rowa), UV Steralizor (Turbo Twist 12x 36 watt), and RoDi 7stage.

Fish list :

Huma (Picasso) Trigger
Pair Blue Throat Triggers
Starry Blenny
3 Chromis
Leopard Wrasse
Tomini Tang
Unicorn Tang
Naso Tang
Koran Angel
Singapore Angel
Bi Color Angel
Eilbl's Angel
Majestic FoxFace
Orange Spotted Golby
(Yes I know many can be problematic)

Nothing going on as of lately due to the money well drying up but who knows what the future will bring.
