lorenz0 12-12-2014 08:50 AM

wow man the tank looks amazing. lost your number with my previous iphone, didn't back it up. oops

riceboy 04-10-2015 03:00 PM

Well its been a long time coming but i think i'm going to restart this tank and start getting rid of the corals i don't like lol. Going to redo the complete rockwork and get rid of all the gsp in my tank and keep a few of my sps that i like, stay posted in the for sale forum as i'll be fragging or selling whole colonies.

rebuild on the way yay.

man i must be bored with the tank lol

hackerberry 04-10-2015 04:48 PM

Must have plenty of spare time. Will be checking out the classifieds for any interesting unwanted corals. ;)

Aquattro 04-10-2015 05:11 PM

Just a warning, my attempt at that caused me 6 months of grief!! lol

riceboy 04-10-2015 07:08 PM

Lol I know what you mean but just can't handle the new spots of gsp popping up everywhere Lol. Should be fun

riceboy 04-17-2015 02:53 AM

Well I bit the bullet and redid it.
http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/s...413_173950.jpg

riceboy 04-17-2015 02:54 AM

Way more swimming room for the fish and no more gsp lol

FishyFishy! 04-17-2015 02:57 AM

Looks good victor! That should fill up quickly

Wretch 04-17-2015 03:08 AM

Looks great. Did you use all new rock?

riceboy 04-17-2015 03:20 AM

Yep all tonga rock no live rock from eli one of the sponsors here on canreef. eli was great he let me build my whole rock structure at his ware house and then once I got the shape I wanted I just paid him for the rocks. I still have plenty of live rock in my frag tank in the basement so bacteria is still in there.

kien 04-17-2015 03:35 AM

Whoa, all new rock and all new live sand ?? I didn't realize it was ALL new when i saw the tiny iPhone pic. Looks so clean ! Definitely +1 on all that negative (swimming) space! Very nice. You've got some serious .... Vic  I'm not sure I'd have the guts to do that. Here's hoping for a smooth transition.

Howie 04-17-2015 04:24 AM

That tonga branch looks great! Nice looking tank.

eli@fijireefrock.com 04-17-2015 06:07 AM

Victor that setup looks sweet with all the space there you fish will love it and for great growth of corals.
Cheers

Douglas 04-17-2015 10:58 AM

Looks great Victor, change it good sometimes!

riceboy 04-17-2015 02:39 PM

No guts no glory lol. (hopefully my tank will make it to tank of the month one day). All the rocks are new tonga rock, 2 new bag of sand (not live) thats how i role lol.

Myka 04-18-2015 04:23 AM

Looks great! I hope you have a smooth transition too. I'm nervous for you. :p How did you treat the rock before the move? Did you put any old rock in the sump to help out?

I didn't treat the new rock just threw it into the tank. All the old rock I just sold. I do have about 50lbs of rock in my sump to maintain the beneficial bacteria. So far so good nothing has died and I still get good polyp extention.

SonsOfGoat 04-19-2015 10:49 PM

Thanks for all your rock and corals man! Everything looks great in the tank, currently have really good polyp extension on the sps frags you gave me. Absolutely a ton of life on that rock, i woke up to my girlfriend peering at the tank, face right up against the glass! Haha, a good sign. She loved your tanks and said i should get my tank like yours and to buy what i need to do it. Sweet!
If you're selling some more frags in the future i will be sure to purchase next time were in calgary, and if you're ever coming through Golden feel free to stop in!

lastlight 04-20-2015 02:15 AM

i see room for a few more tangs now dawg! wow you really thinned the herd out since i was over but it's nice to see all the open areas that scape allows for.

i thought you were going to get an ati hybrid. are you committed to full T5 now?

Ah ok, that rock in the sump should definitely help - you're braver than me. I'd do that with LPS, but SPS? Maybe you're just crazy. :p

riceboy 04-20-2015 04:55 AM

Lol that was an upgrade I went to CONCEPT AQUARIUMS and walked out with 2 8 bulb ati hybrids lol. Love the t5 led hybrid Best light on the market in my opinion.

I did mine with only a large aquaclear sponge block. Worked perfectly :)

Now that's ballsy lol. I do have a biopellet reactor so plenty of bacteria in there. I wasn't to concern with the transfer but it's taking forever to clear up the water. I should of rinsed the sand before throwing it in lol.

Aquattro 04-20-2015 05:19 AM

Nah, I prepped the sponge for 2 months beforehand, and knew it would be enough to filter things until the rock built bacteria. This is why I don't buy into the "wait for a year before SPS" line. I added 50 frags day one and all my fish into a system with a crappy skimmer, no reactor and dry rock/sand. Big water changes every two weeks, and everything stayed very healthy the whole process.

Yup, I've subscribed to the Brad method
Works great every time I put fish in my fresh QT

Jpower 04-20-2015 04:05 PM

Wow dude, this tank looks beautiful. I showed my wife and she's being a little more receptive to "underwater gardening" as she calls it. Great job!

Jesse

Myka 04-20-2015 08:58 PM

It's not so much the Initial move but the fact that the corals are going from an established tank with (assuming) stable parameters to a new tank where parameters have a tendency to fluctuate. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. It really sucks when it doesn't.

Thanks Jesse. It was a long struggle from the beginning but I think I kinda know what I'm doing now lol.
