Maple Trim
Thanks for the praise guys you all are too kind!
Got started on the maple trim work on the top of my stand. Also decided today that I am not going the canopy route. I will be going to the ceiling with some shelves above the light. Now I need to start doing some drawings again to figure this one out. Here is a shot of the area the maple top plate is going. http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_4330.jpg Starting of fitting the peices together. http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_4338.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_4339.jpg This is a shot of a completed corner before routing and securing it down. http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_4340.jpg Couple of shots of a completed corner, this still has to be nailed down. http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_4341.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_4342.jpg Once complete I will be applying a tung oil to bring out the grain then applying a waterproof urathane. Also there will be one more moulding that will cover up the base of the tank totaly. Not sure if I will buy this or will make it myself.' I should have this complete tomorrow during the day. Then I will be starting the top portion. |
Oops, double post ....

one nice thing for me is the location of it - I can clean glass and watch tv:lol: Quote:

Cap Complete
Here are a few shots of the top cap completed. the moulding that is up against the tank has not been coated or tact down.
I finished the cap with a two part epoxy which is shiney and very thick. It looks even wet but its dry. This epoxy is waterproof heat proof and salt water proof. I have also got started on the canopy which goes from the top of the tank to the ceiling. In the last pick you will notice how I cut off the top of the tank as I will be posting pics for the canopy later. http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_4427.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_4428.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_4430.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_4431.jpg Jeff |

Looks amazing

Wow, very nice. I can't wait to see how you do the top. I will be building a 7' peninsula tank over the next 6 months and I've yet to decide how to do a canopy from the top of the tank to the 9' ceiling.

Canopy
Pretty much got the canopy completed here are a few pics of what I did.
This is where its going http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4376.jpg Couple of the shell http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4377.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4378.jpg Being that this is a sealed unit I needed a way to be able to service the light. So I used drawer slides to mount a piece of wood to that the light will be attached. http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4386.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4389.jpg Sealed unit requires some venting and fans. The fans are connected to a timer and comes on with halides. Keeps the tank at a cosistant 27-28 deg. They produce very little noise, can't even hear them really. http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4396.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4433.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4436.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4435.jpg Some pics of the completed unit. Each side opens for access to the tank and the light pulls out enough to change the bulbs or clean. It also could be removed very easy if need be. http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4444.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4445.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4437.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4452.jpg http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4439.jpg I still have to enclose the back side to wall - maybe this weekend. |
1st Full Tank Pics
Here are a few shots of the full tank.

very nice! Hopefully you never ever have to move that tank as it looks like it is permanently fixed to the house now
|
Looks Awesome!
Any new frags lately? |
Im impressed as always

It looks permanent but really it is not. I was able to find two joists that run directly under the canopy that I tied into with eight screws and the cleat that is on the wall is held up by four screws. When/if it is time to move the tank it will just be a matter of filling in the holes on the wall and ceiling and a little bit of mud and paint - you will never notice it was there! |

I have LOTS of new frags. In time I will be posting some pics of all the coral in the tank. I will use this as a time frame for growth. |
Looks really nice! A question..
http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_4396.jpg That thing is awesome! Where can a fellow get a fine piece of metal such as this? |
I got it at B&E Electronics in Calgary. It is used as a filler for rack mount music equipment racks.

Zoa Garden
It is my intention to have the entire end of the tank covered in zoas. Now that these are in a permanent location I am starting to see some growth. Here is the collection so far.
