As allways it looks amazing! time for a bigger tank:lol: the growth you get is nothing short of amazing considering the lack of fancy equipment (can`t believe you dont even have an auto top off:turn-l:) Just goes to show sometimes less is more.:thumb:

What? You don't have Manuel dosing? He makes great margaritas too!

PoonTang 03-01-2009 05:40 AM

That sandbed is starting to look a little cluttered. Time for another clean out?

marie 03-07-2009 04:29 AM

Guess what I'm going to be doing this sunday.

Have I ever mentioned I hate coraline algae
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...rch0509026.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...rch0509028.jpg

I bought these from JL at the boxing day sale 2 months ago. They are directly under a MH light less then a foot away from the bulb and they are just about clogged with coraline

Mrfish55 03-07-2009 04:38 AM

Geeze is there anything you can't grow in that tank? who else can take a common Tunze pump and turn it into liverock in 2 months

karazy 03-07-2009 04:56 AM

you should just take some base rock, sump it, and sell it as liverock 2 months later xD

christyf5 03-07-2009 05:06 AM

Unreal <shakes head> I have two little patches that I'm carefully cultivating over here.

marie 03-07-2009 05:08 AM

It does make going zeo or fauna marin tempting

Why,s that Marie?

and yes, better soak those pumps.

marie 03-07-2009 02:50 PM

Everything i've read so far about zeo and fauna say less algae and almost non existant coraline algae

The temptation is minimal though, I can't even remember to take my vitamins, there is no way I'd remember to dose my tanks daily

Hi Marie

I have been using ZEOvit now for 2 1/2 years under 250w MH and my Coraline algae is thick and a beautiful purple in colour.

Well geez, I always figured I had options when I got tired of cleaning powerheads. At least I didn't spend a bunch of money before finding that out.

If you get your tank to ultra low nutrients, you will see less coraline for sure. Many of the ZEO tanks are proof of that. Heck the ocean is proof of that. I was amazed by how little coraline was on the Great Barrier Reef when we were there 3 years ago. Some of the other dives in Australia though were in lagoons and we saw much more coraline and just algae in general. So it certainly needs some nutrients to survive.

Many ZEO tanks though don't get all the way down to that ultra low nutrient level I don't think, so there is coraline. I also don't think running ZEO would kill off all your coraline.

I actually really love your tank (looks very natural to me) and kind of like all the coraline. But I only have to check it out once in a while in pictures, not clean it every month :)

You might as well leave them dirty.

I have herd that Coraline Algae does not do well at higher light 400W. However this is probably wrong as well.

I believe that it is one of those things, If you want it, it will not grow. If you do not want it , it grows like crazy.

christyf5 03-26-2009 03:10 PM

Great video Marie! For a bit there I was wondering where all your fish were. He does love his camera time doesn't he?

fishytime 03-26-2009 04:09 PM

Great vid Marie.....but I still get a kick out of the first vid, where he swims upside down.

Tom R 03-26-2009 04:14 PM

Great Video Marie

I always look forward to your tank updates.

I sit with envy trying to figure out what you are doing right and what I am doing wrong.

I have narrowed it down to just 2 things.

First and foremost you know what your doing.

and

Second it must have something to do with living in Powell River.

Tom R

christyf5 03-26-2009 04:28 PM

I agree Tom, I think Powell River must be the golden mecca for coralline algae as well as fat and healthy fish

Lost, one sand bed anyone with information leading to the whereabouts...

If Anthony doesn't come soon to relieve me of these corals littering the floor, they are all going to end up in a bucket on my deck. It's a good thing he will be here saturday

SeaHorse_Fanatic 04-15-2009 05:19 AM

Already picked up most of your supplies. We'll be catching the ferry right after Irene finishes teaching piano on Saturday afternoon. Holy smokes, you weren't kidding about losing your sand bed.

Anthony

Jack 04-15-2009 05:55 AM

Marie, are you intentionally going bare bottom or is that the powerheads blowing the sand to the back?

Sebae again 04-15-2009 06:04 AM

Was your sand bed from crushed coral that dissolved into sps? There must be something in that P.R. water. You should bottle it up an sell it. Hey Anthony can you bring back about 10,000 gallons of water for us Lower Mainlanders?

The power heads blew the sand back. I wouldn't let my bottom go bare intentionally

Every time I clean the glass I just have to take out the camera

*Edit*The reason I take all the pics of this guy is because Dave (wicked frags) told me it was a slow grower and it appears to be anything but in my tank

Lance 04-20-2009 03:55 AM

Wow Marie! That's amazing. No wonder you're looking for a bigger tank.
