Hopefully the shrimp isnt a saron shrimp! they chow the corals hard.

JasonJ 12-03-2005 09:19 PM

wat lighting are u using AG?

aquariumgirl 12-04-2005 03:50 AM

NanoReef, thanks! The second picture is a cowrie, not sure what type yet.

deacon hemp, a saron shrimp, I'll have to look it up on google...If it's bad, I hope its not a bad shrimp :frown: It's so cute and blue!

JasonJ, I have a 65W 50/50 PC.

Diana 12-04-2005 07:17 AM

Be careful with those cowrie's, some are nasty. Is the tissue part white with black spots?

The shell kinda looks like a 'ring cowrie' which i think are okay... not sure though.

;)

aquariumgirl 12-05-2005 06:15 AM

eeks, okay thanks diana. I do some more research on the little guy.

Reef_kid 12-07-2005 06:20 AM

hey aquariumgirl just was looking through your post noticed you thought you had some baby sun coral

they actualy look more like a strawberry anemome
notice the club tips on the tenticals its a notiable characteristic that defines these animals

Phylum Cnidaria
Class Anthozoa
Subclass Zoantharia
Order Corallimorpha
Family Corallimorphidae

hope it helps you out.
they will pop up here and there since they divide like mushrooms and are active movers.. they lack the calcium carbonate skeleton.
and come in colours from red- orange-white.
there pretty cool anthozoa thought

cheers dave

aquariumgirl 12-08-2005 02:32 AM

Thanks Reef_kid! It very well might be, but I think those are cold water anemones (Corynactis californica) ranging from california to BC. I didn't put anything from our waters into this tank, so I think it's unlikely. Maybe it is some type of anemone.

Just to give everyone an update on how these guys are doing... I only have a few left (very hard to feed). They are usually closed and open up when it's feeding time. They are very slow grower. I'll see if I can get a picture of them later on.

aquariumgirl 12-17-2005 06:13 PM

Here are some updated pictures of the ten gallon and the three gallon tanks. The coco worm was a little shy for pictures but you can see its home on the left.

So I have done some changes to my tank, mainly upgraded to a 30 gallon tall (it's about time, how long have you been planning this?? ). Yes it's been done, but I've run into some problems; the thingy to cover the hole in the back of the tank is leaking!! So, the tank is not fully filled and the silicon is drying. I don't have pictures yet and the tank is bare. I'll post when I think the tank is ready for show ;) . Anyway, a certain person (s) has been bugging me to post something (anything), so here you go...

To past time I've recently decided to extend my hobbies to the arachnid area. Here are a few pictures of what I have. (I know this is in the nano reef section and that this is a reefing forum, but I feel so comfortable here that it's like an internet home for me :D ). ENJOY!!

This is Lou...a juvenile male Lasiodora parahybana.

This is Sami....a very young sling Avicularia versicolor.

Haha, well I got some interesting reactions on the tarantulas ;) Well, I upgraded the ten and the three gallon into the 30 gallon. Here is a picture:

Now I have a mantis shrimp for anyone who would like him (or it). He feeds off the stick and has been eating shrimp of various kinds (I don't think he's too picky). I've had him for about six months I think and is only about and inch and a half.

Why are all your posts to the same thread? Why not start a new thread in "misc lounge" for things like this.. Are you self bumping under the guise of sharing?

- Curiousity.

aquariumgirl 01-10-2006 06:09 AM

ummm???? I've posted in the lounge (called "tarantulas"), I've posted in the for sale section (called "free mantis in victoria"). I like keeping things in one place and I know lots of people who follow my thread. It's simple. Maybe I'm bumping my thread to keep it on top so more people find it. I don't see anything wrong with it. I hope you don't mind, not trying to be sneaky.

Willow 01-10-2006 06:16 AM

looks like you need a wack load more rock in there.

I don't see anything wrong with it either.
You go girl!

Cheers,

christyf5 01-10-2006 03:33 PM

Actually I've skipped the last two pages of your thread and thank god I didn't click on the page that had the spiders. They creep me out and quite frankly I hate them. I won't be following this thread anymore if it has anything but reefs or cute puppies in it  Please try to keep your photos reef related in this forum and keep the spiders to the lounge. Thanks :D

That is one tall tank! wowzers. Gonna be hard to aquascape ;).

How are you finding the pipefish so far? I thought they needed thier own tank set up around thier needs... like how they dont like the high flow of a reef tank? I would love to try them one day.

:)
-Diana

aquariumgirl 01-11-2006 05:50 AM

It's going to be challanging for sure!! Thanks diana ;) The pipefish seem to be doing fine; all three are eating and no one seems to be bothering them or be bothered by them. The tank seems to have little current on one side where they stay most of the time. I just have to make sure they get lots to eat (mysis shrimp).

digitalsteve 02-07-2006 07:37 AM

how hard is that suncoral to keep , i wanna pick on up for my fowlr tank as i hear you spot feed them rather then filter feed which would suit my tank better. do they like a lot of light , i had head they were more of a night time coral

Skimmer Juice 02-07-2006 06:06 PM

how much did you pay for the coco worm?Sun corals are easy to take care of youjust got to spend a little extra time feeding them

aquariumgirl 02-09-2006 01:26 AM

digitalsteve: suncorals can be difficult in that you have to spot feed them at least two times a week (more the better). I haven't had a problem yet. Try to feed as many polyps as you can. The suncoral should be fine in a FOWLR, they don't have zooanththellae so you don't have to have them in full light just as long as it's in a spot where they can be easily spot fed. Oh, and as long as you don't have any coral nipping fish either.

addam4208283 02-09-2006 03:00 AM

tank looks great, i can't get over the spider pics. do you have any macro pics?
ADAM

aquariumgirl 02-10-2006 05:39 AM

Hey Adam, I don't have any macro shots of the spiders, I'm having difficulties getting my camara to not focus on my refection throught the critter keeper, grr. Also, as soon as I touch the cages they run back into their burrows. But, guess what, my little versicolor molted this morning and it's now over an inch long!! Such a beautiful spider, I can't wait until it gets older and starts showing it's adult colors. I'll keep trying on those macro shots :D

Reef tank is coming along nicely, just finish putting my live rock that I've been curing, into the tank yesterday. It's so full!! But I do have bad news, my pipefish beauty died today while I was at work. She got stuck in the seio, nose first. My BF had to put up with me for two hours of crying :( It was the sadest loss. I really liked her, the queen of the tank!

RIP my queen

Here is an updated picture with the additional live rock. Looks much fuller now!!

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...eb-12-2006.jpg

And here is a few pictures of a mystery corals I found, it looks like an anemone or a Caribbean corallimorph. It only opens up at night, seems to like caves and cracks within live rocks and has a white strip patter at the center.

Sorry to hear about your pipefish - they are neat looking fish.
I just love your tank and the addition of more rock has just improved it.
