Really like that turquoise millie and always like clams. Is all this stuff available on your website?

Thanks, I sent you a PM.

Nice selection of corals!!
Not sure if this was asked but are you running any zeo or carbon dosing?

Snappy 04-02-2014 05:28 AM

Thanks, no I am not running any 'carbon dosing' or zeo in any of my systems. To be honest I just don't have time to keep up with it.

Snappy 04-02-2014 05:35 AM

Just lost one of my pipefish to an MP60 yesterday:sad:.
The pump started making a funny noise so I went to check it out and saw a white streak going round with the propeller and unfortunately it was one of my dragon pipes. It really got knocked around in there and was toast so since I believe in recycling I cut it up and fed it to the anemones & a few LPS. Not what I like to feed them but no point in flushing it.

lastlight 04-02-2014 05:39 AM

that's terrible news sorry to hear it. to be honest i was a bit worried about that in my own tank but i think any type of powerhead could do the same thing. i wonder if it was weakened prior to getting sucked inside the powerhead?

Not sure why it would be weaked? I think it was 'hunting' for food a bit too close. Those power heads are really powerful and I assume it may have seen a pod around it and BAM - in it goes for a wild ride.

BlueTang<3 04-02-2014 12:45 PM

That sucks, I was always afraid of the pipefish in a higher flow tank. I lost a mystery wrasse to a mp 40 when he swam in to hide when if shut off for cleaning when it restarted he was inside:sad:. I got rid of my 60s as my tangs would like to see how close they could get to it, like you said some extreme undertow I had to pluck them off the side of it a couple times weren't sick just dumb still have the fish and that was years ago. Sadly he's not any smarter to this day.

Is this the first fish you've lost to a powerhead?

First pipefish I've lost to a powerhead and first fish in an MP60. Lost a few in MP40's over the years but never in a 60.

I have 4x MP40's & 3x MP60's in the tank - so there is no shortage of flow:wink:. My tangs do that too but have not got caught in it yet. (knock on wood)

Nice of you to say Brett, thanks.

Brief overview from the front - again taken with my phone so not the best quality but gives a general idea of what the reef looks like.

Thanks - it's only a little over 4 months in since the 'do-over' at the tail end of Nov so it has a long way to go but it is coming along at a reasonable rate.

Snappy 04-30-2014 02:41 AM

It's tough to keep 700 plus gallons in top shape when I have had to be away with work Mon-Fri for the past 4 weeks. I am having some tip burn on a few pieces and a few brown outs. :twised:
Definately not an alk spike - it was actually low at 6.5 DKH with Ca @ 420 & Mag @ 1350. Not sure what the cause is yet.

Good guess as it's hard to tell from the picture but the other is actually CM Lovelli (teal green with bright baby blue tips)- They have some similarities but the robin egg stag is a.loisetteae and a different shade of blue.

Snapped a few pix today of a few sps.

Here is a cool combo rock I got from Reef Wholesale a while back.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ps8e8ac745.jpg

Here's a couple of pieces growing nicely from rescue/insurance frags
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ps48aabeb9.jpg

I am digging the subtle pink hues in this Granulosa
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ps5119f9b7.jpg

One of my favorite stags - Acropora Exquisita
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...psadeafd94.jpg

Acropora Nobilis - freakishly cool coral
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ps73811141.jpg

Doug's Granulosa - got this frag from fishytime a few years ago(when he lived in Calgary)
and it basically just subsisted as a brown blob in the frag tank until I decided to move it in
the main display a few months ago just to see if would get it's act together and it is now
sprouting branches and coloring up nicely and looks like it is finally going to explode with growth.

A few fish shots

I'll start with some Leopard Wrasse pix -

Mrs.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ps863d4bc9.jpg

Trying to shoot the wrasses but the tangs are camera hogs.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...psf7fcab46.jpg

My pigmy wrasse is very shy and rarely comes out of the caves far enough to get a photo -
the mystery wrasse hassles it every chance it gets.
