I just bought a bunch of stuff from JL and I was only charged 5%. They specifically mentioned only charging me GST because I live in Alberta.

I believe this is because BRS ships from the states. If I am not mistaken, they collect 15% to cover brokerage - which, from my experience, is terrible with UPS.

You should only be paying the tax required by the province the goods are shipped to. The stores can't keep the tax money they have to be remitted to their designated governments. BRS only ships via UPS who charges brokerage fees. BRS puts this fee into their price up front so the customer doesn't get a surprise bill from UPS, this is probably the extra charge.

Sound like vortech has a pretty good way of making perpetual income off these pumps.

I know this is what should happen.. but his bill clearly states HST. They them told him because they ship from BC the have to charge it. It wasn't me so its all second hand info. I have had this problem before in a different hobby, being charged PST on an order from Ontario, when I called they argued for a bit then the owner called me back and said it was a mistake and promptly refunded that portion. It was no mistake just a dirty way to make an extra 8%.

As for ups I refuse to buy anything from a company that will only use them. I have to import many things for work through them and it's disgusting what they charge for brokerage fees. These charges were not ups fees.
