I will have to ask the original owner but I am pretty sure he is Zebrasoma desjardinii. He has a lot of spots.

Oh just the first battle to rid my tank of some flatworms, well A LOT of them, plus did 4 separate 5G water changes throughout the day after a Chemi-clean treatment couple days ago, so that I could bring my Skimmer back online.. Was a long day of husbandry... :drinking:

Oh no...do I dare ask which kind of flat worms?

I have had some but never the bad kind. Mine were just the harmless brown ones that don't eat anything. All they can do is block light from corals if there are lots of them but I find they like shade only. And die off on their own since I don't think they find food in our tanks.

But I am assuming you have the bad kind :(

How did the chemi-clean work?

As far as I know (and Christys ID) they are just red commensal flatworms, which are harmless, but a total eye sore, and they are (less now) all over the place.. siphoned a alot today.. but there are lots I can't get the tube into.. so hoping my new mystery wrasse will start to munch on those ones..

Chemiclean didn't seem to do much, and I HATED having my skimmer off. It was a rush decision one night (that I regret doing because it caused more headaches than good these past 2 days) after reading a thread on RC and thinking to myself "I'm gonna try that right now!!!"... I think I will stick to Pohls Coral Snow for keeping cyano in check.. :wink:

AEFW...Acro Eating Flat Worms, you would know if you had them (dying acros) and you can't really see them with the naked eye. Well its really hard. They are clear and take on the color of the coral they are eating.

The ones you have will go away with time on their own and are harmless. Yes an eyesore but not that bad.

Desjardini - because the yellow lines in the dorsal fin are arcs instead of straight stripes. Not that it matters, both desjardini and veliferum are very pretty tangs IMHO.

Flatworms - look into a canary wrasse (sometimes called a yellow coris wrasse but it is not a coris relative at all). I don't think Chemiclean will do a thing for flatworms. That's more a cyano treatment.. But look into a canary wrasse, they do a bang up job of eating flatworms. Mine took about 2-3 weeks to completely eradicate the flatworms in my 115g. And they are a very pretty fish. Another alternative is the exquisitedly coloured close relative, the radiant wrasse.

And AEFW, yeah, you'd know if it was. Inside the tank, you'll only see the damage on your SPS. You'll only see the flatworms if they fall off your acros when you dip them..
