thanks buddy , haha yeah ive had these guys for quite a while , they eat a chocolate chip starfish a week divided between them ,i use to feed them frozen but i want them to hunt and keep their instincts so i toss in a full starfish and they hunt it, flip it and drag it back to their overhang where they spend the full week doing the mated pair thing and eating.

given the right conditions these two will pair for life:)

denny do you control the dosers with the apex lite?

and does apex lite come with a display, iphone controllability and web logging?

I don't yet , right now my apex is a expensive powerbar everythings on and plugged in random spots lol ill get to it someday;)

Does come with display and networks accessible but I haven't played with it yet I traded some corals for this awhile ago and didn't bother setting it up on my ghetto setup :)

lastlight 02-12-2013 03:27 PM

so what would be the big reason to get the lite vs the jr? i'm having a tough time sifting thru the product descriptions to nail the meaningful differences. they both look the same except the lite has 8 power plugs vs 4 on the jr?

Well the Jr only has a 4 outlet powerbar, in theory even with the 8plug you really need a second powerbar and they are pricey.the
I don't think the junior comes with a Ph probe either, plus the junior runs display to piwerbar and that's it so I'm not sure about addons like vdm or wxm modules?

If you want to use a pH probe, you'll need the lite instead of the jr. But the biggest reason for me, is the ability to use the breakout box where you can make DIY float switches, water flood sensor, and other switches etc, to control and shut off pumps, solenoids, or whatever.

The lite is basically the same as the standard apex, except without the variable ports for certain variable speed pumps (like tunze) and orp probe.

lastlight 02-12-2013 03:44 PM

yeah i've got no use for the VDM but the MXM works with all apex models (so claims the BRS site anyways).

I guess I'd need a power slot for my light, one for each doser, and heater. I *think* 4 would be enough but maybe it's best to go to an 8 bar right off the bat. I don't have any need for ph monitoring either.

Reefwars,

In pic 5 of post 92, are.those rics bleached a little bit? I have the same ones in my tank and the tips are a bit white like the ones in the pic. Is that just normal for those?

no its my crappy camera mixed with the radion colors its actually bright vivid orange with a neon green mouth and ring on its outer edge;)

Baldy 02-12-2013 05:16 PM

mine have a bright orange outer, blue inside, and bright green mouth, but some of the bulbs or tentacles have white tips. Like half the bulb is white and half is bright orange.

Awesome coral pics tho!

This tank makes me drool.

I have been dying to hear what a person who previously had the gen 1 radions thinks of the pros - noticeable difference in colour immediately? What's your light schedule like?

well ive had them running for 2 days now , and when i got home yesterday afternoon i did notice something very different , most of my corals were alot fatter , i thinking the uv had something to do with it, too soon to tell just yet but overall i love the pros , whether or not its worth the extra $300 per fixture is still up for debate;)

cheers

denny
