Thanks Chase, we are holding up ok. Still don't know what is wrong but thing's have improved and should know tomorrow. The wife was exhausted and was able to get some sleep but I was up all night just in case the phone rang and we had to leave in a hurry.

The Grizz 02-24-2010 01:17 AM

So here is an update.

I started the plumbing for the sump today getting the return line done:

http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...d/100_3106.jpg

Then I built my durso standpipes for dual corner overflows:

http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...d/100_3100.jpg
http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...d/100_3103.jpg

And finally I did the overflow to sump line's:

http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...d/100_3108.jpg

Next will be the 30w UV that I have to figure out where it will go so it is not in the way of the closed loop I have planned. Still need to find a 45mm & 65 mm glass drill bit that are not to expensive to drill for the loop.

xtreme 02-24-2010 01:22 AM

I've gotten hole saws from mops.ca before, they work well and are cheap. I thought I might have a 65mm bit your could have but I went and checked and its 75mm.

Do you think that a 75 mm hole would be to big for a 1 1/2" bulkhead? I could fill in the hole around the bulk head with silicone.

xtreme 02-24-2010 03:01 AM

If it were me I would get a 2" bulkhead then reduce it to 1.5" outside the tank if that would work for your application.

I will check to see what I have for bulk head in my stock if I got one that would work. It is for the feed to the pump for my closed loop so going down to 1 1/2" at the pump would not be an issue.

superduperwesman 02-24-2010 03:27 AM

Very clean plumbing. Looks good. No Herbie?

No I thought I would try the durso standpipe on this tank. I am not going to glue the bottom of the stand pipe into the bulk head untill I test it to see how it works.

xtreme 02-24-2010 03:38 AM

Well I do have a 45mm bit as well. If you are in town you can come a grab them both. Only thing is I'd like to have the 45 back since I might need it again. Even if you returned it in the next couple months that would be fine, I won't be using it anytime soon.

That would be sweet. I hope to be there for work next week if all goes to plan. Shoot me a pm with your contact info. I will get them drilled and back to you fairly quick.

BWI 02-25-2010 01:24 AM

nice work.. if you can try to pump the pump straight without that elbow. Puts strain on the pump.

great work!

The Grizz 02-25-2010 03:01 AM

Ya I have not glued the line from the pump to the tee so I can still change it. I was hoping to keep the pump in close & I know it would put strain on the pump. I will probably change that.

Chase31 02-25-2010 03:46 AM

weres the pics????? :boink::boink::boink::boink::boink::boink::boink:

Well you are just going to have to wait untill I get more done.

The Grizz 02-26-2010 04:10 AM

So i decided to change the plumbing on the return pump to this:

http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...d/100_3128.jpg
http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...d/100_3127.jpg
http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...d/100_3129.jpg

Then I had a neat idea that I thought I would try out:

http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...d/100_3123.jpg
http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...d/100_3124.jpg
http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...d/100_3120.jpg
http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...d/100_3122.jpg

Originally I put a small piece of 1/2" pipe in the end of the 45's & 90's like a nozzle type thing but Terry had 4 nozzel's from rio that we sanded down a little to fit in the 45's & 90's and they work pretty good. I have the tank & sump full of water just waiting until tomorrow to do a full water test run so that a couple of fitting cam set-up completly.

the marine apprentice 02-26-2010 07:49 AM

lookin good greg. we got alot done today on the tank. and i also got a few goodies built as well. im gonna build some more of those racks and try them out im gonna build some for each kind of set up

sphelps 02-26-2010 07:06 PM

Looks good so far. If you have problems with your drains it's likely a result from the pipes being submerged all the way in the sump. This tends to cause an airlock or something that prevents the drains from flowing properly. Also there is a steel screw under the white cap in the ball valve handle, not sure if you know that or not.

Now issues with the flow what so ever, have to tune in my durso a little but other then that works great. Once I figure out how to upload a vid to utube I will post link.

Looking good grizz.

Light's Arrived Today!!!!

So finally my light's arrived today by UPS. And to my amazement there was no issues on delivery for the first time, 1 out of 15 packages. The light's are Odyssea 48" 4 x 54W T5HO, with 4 LED moon light's per fixture, 3 power cords & 3 switch's. They came with 2 Odyssea 12,000K & 2 Odyssea Actinic's per fixture. I will be changing out most of the bulbs so if anyone has some gently used bulb's they would be willing to lend or give me to help me decide what knid of bulbs i want that would be awesome.

I am thinking that I would like to use 2 - Actinic+, 2 - 10,000K, 2 - 12,000K & 2 - 14,000k per side.

The Grizz 02-27-2010 05:35 AM

Sorry kid that is going to be awhile as I have to drill 5 more holes for the closed loop, build my electrical comand center and finish closing in the stand before that happen's. Need to sell a tank also first.

Just imagine what it will be like with only 2 actinic per side instead of 4 like it is now.

bauder1986 02-28-2010 04:34 PM

Saw this tank last night folks and its getting pretty awesome. Especially since you have to stand back like eight feet to get a full view of the tank lol.

Trocar61 02-28-2010 04:56 PM

Yes it will be sweet when it is all done and everything from the 155 is in it.

The Grizz 03-03-2010 04:24 AM

Got a little more done today. Built the box that is going to hold all the electrical plug's for the system, built a water catch tray for where my pump's will be sitting & started to get the light's mounted.

But hit a little snag, I have these programmable light switches in my house for our outside perimeter lighting on the house. I would like to use them on this tank of the light timer's but I can not find them. I require 5 of these switches.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find them, they look like this:

bauder1986 03-03-2010 03:10 PM

dude i saw those at home depot right near the main entrance by the light bulb shelf!

doobiej 03-03-2010 08:59 PM

Grizz,

just came across your thread, I like your tank, I just got my 8 foot ( 96Lx22Wx24H ) glass tank up and running a couple weeks ago. took 6 of us to carry it into the house. I am curious to see what you do with yours.
not too many 8 footers around.
