lorenz0,

You will be ****ed if you drop a used bike also.

I find the resale on bike to be crappy at best so if you plan to get a new bike each year get used if you are going to hold onto it get new.

Rbacchiega 05-06-2009 04:01 AM

the first bike I bought was new...got it at Blackfoot motorsports.... I agree with sitandwatch though, you'll be ****ed regardless

whatcaneyedo 05-06-2009 04:58 AM

I bought used and I'm glad I did. I dropped it once and almost dropped it quite a few more times. However I did get lucky and got away with only a small scratched area on the bottom of the bike.

ElGuappo 05-06-2009 05:09 AM

Its not a question of "will i drop the bike?" but "when will i drop the bike?"

i dont think any one out there who rides can say the have never droped a bike. and it doesnt matter if your bike is new or used your going to be ****ed.

I bought my first bike used, and my second new. ive had it since 04 and its worth roughly the same now as it was in 05. but way off what i paid in 04. part of the reason i hung onto it, plus i love it. and my next bike i think is going to be an aprillia mille RSV 1000 R Factory . so im going to need some scratch before i consider it.

And in IMO stay away from blackfoot. go to GW or even bow although GW is the only spot in town they actually care about customer service and decent prices. my rear tire alone installed was over $100 buck more at more than 1 shop (even where i bought it), than what i paid at gw as a first time customer.

Dont know if i can knock on bike shops here, so if not please mod

I can (knock on wood) 18 years and running now.

lorenz0 05-06-2009 01:10 PM

ya thats my point, new or used i will be ****ed. before i even pick up the bike i am going to get frame sliders installed.

This bike will be with me for 4+ years so re-sale value isn't a huge thing for me. but thanks for the input guys, starting to work 65+ hour work weeks for this down payment

BMW Rider 05-06-2009 02:46 PM

I've bought both new and used over the years. It really comes down to what you want and what's available used. If you need to be on the latest and greatest, then I guess new is your choice. If you can find what you like in a used bike, then by all means save your cash and let someone else take the depriciation hit. Though there is a bit of a high obtained from riding a shiny new bike off the dealers lot.

My most recent purchase this spring, my BMW F800GS, was brand new. However, it's also a brand new model, so used ones are non-existant yet. If I don't drop it before the years out, then I'll be suprised (maybe even disappointed). That's just part of dualsport riding; getting into challenging places where the likelihood of a drop is high. That's why its fitted with a bashplate, crashbars, hand guards and heavy duty aluminum panniers. Those items will help to protect the soft bits when it does drop. My R1100RS on the other hand is less entertaining when dropped, and it has been, but never actually when riding, just tip overs.

Thats pretty sweet. I've been visiting various dealers lately drooling over new bikes... I'm still riding my 'starter bike' and this is the 4th season on it! ATM I'd love to get a Victory 8 Ball but I guess I'll just have to wait a while longer. Hope you have a great time buying your new ride. I'm very jealous!

I actually decided to go used. after alot of research the honda cbr f4i seems to fit what i want out of a bike right now without an aggressive sitting position. Later i will get my zx6-r. during this time i have become a huge fan of the ducati streetfighter-s lol but thats just a dream

Just be careful dude...... Probably a good choice for first bike, but 600's can get away from you the same as any.... hit me up when you get the bike, I'll go riding with you sometime....

ElGuappo 07-16-2009 07:14 PM

I took my friends for a quick spin and i loved the feel of it but he put a larger rear sproket on his and its a stunt bike. basically was the selling factor. I think your bike was a huge selling factor for me, i drowl over it every day and i will totally be down for a cruise

Aleks 07-17-2009 11:33 PM

My bike is hardly drool worthy anymore! Its well used...haha....But hey its a good start drooling over a Suzuki...

lorenz0 07-18-2009 12:52 AM

lol it looks good from a far at least. a couple of my friends who stunt have killer looking bikes from 15 feet away because they spray bombed them, but when you come up close its nasty.

Aleks 07-18-2009 04:29 AM

It was a top notch job before, but its been on lots of highway since then, and you know how that goes.....the pic was close to it having just been done....I still think its a sexy bike....it is 9 years old and 30,000km young now, thats pretty good for a supersport

lorenz0 07-19-2009 07:04 AM

So it happened, the right bike went up for sale. 06 gsx-r with 12,000km's for $5200. God i love this thing, but today was the first time for me driving on a road with actual traffic (before it was just parking lots) and wow i have gained alot of respect for bikers.

The weather is improving the snow is melting, and I got the itch to ride. Went to Andres in Calgary yesterday and ordered more chrome for my baby.

Majorly modified 2006 Yamaha Roadstar. Not much original on it.

Sorry no pics yet, I never had time, but hoepfully soon, once I polish it up for you all. My wife always gives me heck as I never took a before and after pic.

The Grizz 03-05-2010 02:07 AM

I have 3 bike's, 83 Honda Magna 750 (my very first bike), 2000 Honda Magna 750 & my 2008 Harley Sportster Roadster that I won in 2007 from the RIDE FOR SIGHT.

Speaking of the RIDE FOR SIGHT, I would love to see some of you Alberta rider's out the year. New location is the Stoney Nakoda Resort & Casino 30 west of Calgary.

I am the Red Deer coordinator, and this year we have booked CHILLIWACK for Saturday night's entertainment. I will start a thread soon with more details.

June 12 is the day of the ride. Groups will be leaving Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary and some other towns in the a.m. and meeting up at the resort.

BMW Rider 03-05-2010 03:55 PM

I've been tinkering on one of my bikes for the past few weeks. I've had many boxes of goodies arriving through the mail, still a couple more to come yet. Got it back together for the most part now and figure I can navigate across the remains of the glacier in the alley to reach freedom. Just waiting for the temps to rise a bit more today.

I've got lots of plans made for trips this year, should be a good one.

chris121277 03-05-2010 05:56 PM

Well it's not the same kind of biking that you guys do but here's a shot of my ride.
Soooo pumped about riding season:lol:

motorcycles

I've had about 15 motorcycles in the last 30 years.

Current ride is 09 HarleyDavidson Ultraclassic, totally customized, 103 motor,255 cams, painted inner fairing, chrome forks, heated grips, and a custom 6 speaker sound system with 2 amps. I ride all year round , as long as the road is dry. ( don't like riding in the rain as it's a bitch to clean the bike)
Last ride was 08 Harly Streetglide. Won 2 show and shine trophies with that bike. Ducatis, jap bikes, sport bikes, I've had them all.

LIVE TO RIDE. People always ask if it's dangerous on a bike. You Betcha especially riding in Vancouver. My answer is Everybody Dies. Might as well do it doing what you enjoy...
