120 G Display
SPS/LPS

1 Vortech MP40 3200 GPH
2 Hydor Koralia 2's 1200 GPH combined
1 Mag 18 995 GPH (with calculated head pressure)

5395 GPH = 44.95 ~ 45 X

1. Mixed reef
2. 225g
3. Return pump: Reeflo Barracuda (4500 GPH) with head loss = 2500 GPH via 2
outlet manifold and Vertex Mocean 2000
- 2x MP40 = 5400 GPH
- 2x Turbelle Stream 2 = 4226 GPH
- Korallia EVO 1400 = 1400 GPH
4. Turnover rate: 13,500 GPH for a turnover of 60x

1. SPS dominated
2. 90g
3. Return pump: Eheim 1262 (900 GPH) with head loss = 425 GPH
- MP20 = 2000 GPH
- Turbelle Stream 6065 = 1717 GPH
4. Turnover rate: 4100 GPH for a turnover rate of 46x

50gal
softies
2 hk 4s (2400)
1 renea xp 3 (300)
54x turnover

flow in the tank used to be way less 15-20 x and then i rebuilt , im way happier with the tank now with the extra flow .

20G Nano, Mized Reef
Hydor nano coralia - 240G/H
Rio Nano skimmer - 110G/H
Aquaclear 50 - 200G/H
550G/H @ 20G = 27.5X....
(Have been thinking about adding more flow...)

Increasing Flow

When I first started reading these threads on Canreef and Reef Central I was having issues with cyno algae / turf algae....since I have increased my flow I have no more cyno...and since adjusting my water changes my turf algae is reduced.

When I added the second MP40 to my system it was like a wind storm and it created a lot of added current flow(and some kaotic flow).....my skimmer went nuts for 24hrs....I can say my water clarity is a lot better compared with prior.

1. Mixed Reef
2. 20 Gal Display
3. Mag 7 Return pump with 4' of head loss and ocean motion squirt ~450GPH
4. Turnover rate-- 22.5

Im looking at upping flow after reading this. I like the flow im getting with the motion over what sps I have but I have been thinking that something down low, like maybe an mp10 would move the lower water column very well.

Let keep this going. Anyone else have data to add?? Here's what we are looking for:

1. Please give your type of tank: Mixed Reef / SPS / Softies
2. Tank Volume (display only)
3. Pumps and GPH rating (for return after head loss, if you can)
4. Turnover rate (GPH Grand Total / divided by display volume)

Thanks

71G custom cube, barebottom SPS dominated.

1X Red Dragon 8.2 @ 2165G gph @ 60% = 1732 gph
2X MP40Wes @ 3200 gph each @ 80% = 2560 gph each

Total gph = 6852 gph

Total Turnover = 6852/71 = 96.5x Turnover

interestingly enough, if you take the average of everyone's response it does appear to hover around the 40-50x mark
