I can't commit yet, I've been sick off and on all week. If I feel well enough to be there I'll be there as a buyer.

Oooh. This is so exciting! If anyone in Vancouver/Burnaby needs a ride, I can pick them up at any Skytrain station along the Millenium Line at about 10:15AM.

Not to be outdone by Chris here's a few of my own teasers:

Hi,

How long will the auction windows be? How many are planned between 11-3? Just trying to plan how long I can stay. Thanks!

untamed 02-28-2009 05:07 PM

It is a silent auction so pretty much everything is being bid upon at the same time. Various items will close at different times, so you might not have to stay the entire time to buy something.

hockey nut 02-28-2009 11:23 PM

Thanks to the Reef Network for putting on a great frag auction. I appreciate all the work you guys had to do to put this event together. It was unfortunate the turn out was not very good. But the deals were amazing. Purple death palys sold for 5-8 $ per polyp where they normally sell for $40 per polyp or more. Red Devil palys that sell for $15 per polyp sold for $20 for a 6-7 polyp frag. And there was even better deals on other frags that were sold as well. So many different types of SPS at fantastics prices The purple monster was my favorite. Superman monti for $10 Score!!!

With a low turn out like today, would it be worth Reef Network to even bother hosting another event?

Anyhow it was nice to meet some new faces and chat with everyone. Thanks again.

Cheers

GreenSpottedPuffer 02-28-2009 11:28 PM

Wow, I am surprised to hear the turn out was low :(

I thought for sure it would be packed. I obviously missed it since I had found some deals on stuff I wanted at tank shut downs today but would have still liked to have made it...just didn't work time wise.

How many people are we talking??? Was it really that quiet?

Thanks to the reef network for a fabulous auction. Even though I came late, picked up some great deals. If only my 120 was set up...

hockey nut 03-01-2009 12:00 AM

Well if you go by how many people posted that they were planning on attending. Yes it was low. But it was still a decent turn out with new faces. So that's always possitive. It's a fair amount of work to host an event. And for the people selling their frags ,the cutting ,the bagging etc etc it takes time too. I just wonder if it is worth it for everyone that's all. :) It is for me personally but I enjoy these events.

BC Mosaic 03-01-2009 12:08 AM

Yes, Thanks go to the Reef Network people for putting this on. Lot of work and effort indeed. Because this time around the turn out was low I would hate for it not to happen again in the near future. Its nice to be able to put faces to names and to share our woes and successes and a few laughs.
Cheers

christyf5 03-01-2009 12:10 AM

I had a fantastic time. Great to see everyone and meet new people! I got some great deals and as per usual filled my cooler (when this time I really wasn't going to, seriously!!).

A big thanks to the Reef Network for taking the time to set this up. It was a big undertaking. As well thanks to all the sellers for taking my money!

fkshiu 03-01-2009 12:19 AM

Thanks for the Reef Network for hosting this. It's a shame that turn out wasn't good.

Where was everyone?

Chowder 03-01-2009 12:25 AM

Thanks to The Reef Network for putting this on. Was great to see everybody.

tang daddy 03-01-2009 12:55 AM

thanks to reef network for putting on another auction!!

It was nice meeting everone that showed up and for those that couldn't make it maybe next time......

I am happy tho leaving with some choice sps for pennies

Ron99 03-01-2009 01:12 AM

I want to say thanks as well. As somebody fairly new to the hobby it was nice to meet a few of the Canreef folks. It was also great to score some fantastic deals to help fill out the tanks. The low turn out was probably a disappointment for the sellers who most likely did not get as much as they wanted for their frags and all the effort they made to bring them out. It was definitely a buyer's auction. But I hope that doesn't stop the Reef Network from organizing more of these as I am sure that was the exception rather than the norm. I don't keep SPS but if I did I would have been thrilled as there was such a great selection of frags that went for a song.

Tom R 03-01-2009 01:55 AM

I would like to thank everyone who came out to today's auction. As always it was a great event. It is always fun to see our great friends that come out to these events. I had a great time and look forward to the next event.

FBNitro 03-01-2009 02:09 AM

I'm sick and couldn't make it. Said I was a maybe because of that. =(

Wish I could have gone.

JakartaOrBust 03-01-2009 03:23 AM

Some peoples loss, my gain.

Thanks again to the network. I was shocked to see the low turnout. I'm almost disappointed that more did not make the effort. The amount of time and attention the network puts out there to make these events happen was greatly appreciated, especially from us out of towners.

But there loss meant I took more home. So thank you to that. I still feel a bit guilty for the prices I came home with. (Overtime I'll get over it:biggrin:). I hope that in the fall I will actually come back as a seller with some of my LPS pieces. And since it seems some of the West Coasters do not want to be part of not just a good place to get some well worth pieces, but the overall social experience, I will bring more of the interior hobbyists with me as well.

Thanks again everyone. Awesome stuff I brought back. I must now glue them down before they go missing.

untamed 03-01-2009 03:24 AM

I had fun...and my thanks to the organizers. I think that room is really great for events, Tom. (too bad it's so far from everywhere, eh?)

I came back with more coral than I brought with me...and left some money behind as well.

As my feedback, I think that the silent auction was very successful and much more efficient than the live auction. The photos are a great idea. (I would suggest smaller photos since we needed more space) Next time, maybe we only need 2 hours. Limit to two frags per type per person. That way, there could be 1 close in 1 hour, then the other close in the 2nd hour.

That's just my feedback for consideration. It was certainly a fun and well run event as is.

fkshiu 03-01-2009 03:34 AM

Some good points, Brad.

I would also suggest perhaps cycling a sale every half hour or so to keep things moving and fast paced. It was basically sitting around for most of the time and then two minutes of frantic bidding and then repeat.

That room is awesome for this type of event. Special thanks to TomR.

GreenSpottedPuffer 03-01-2009 03:44 AM

It would be interesting to hear why people decided not to go.

I was with a friend from the forum and we had planned to go but in the end just spent most of our money in the morning at a tank shut down. To be honest we figured it would be super busy. Still figured the deals would be amazing but just never made it.

Well work today wasn't much fun...actually it sucked.

Sounded like there were a few of you, I hope this doesn't affect future events. I was expecting to hear that it was packed and I was hoping it was going to create a desire for a event every three months instead of six. You guys can sign me up for the next event and I'll volunteer to help set up of what ever is needed.

I hope someone took some pics to show us what we missed and to make sure we get our buts to the next one.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 03-01-2009 07:37 AM

Working all weekend so no auction for me. In fact, it's after midnight & I'm still editing papers & will be for another 2 or 3 hours at least.

Sounds like it would have been a lot of fun.

Anthony

Jason McK 03-01-2009 03:19 PM

Yes Thanks everyone for coming out. Despite the low turn out it was good to chat about our tanks and hang out with friends

J

SeaHorse_Fanatic 03-01-2009 05:36 PM

Ouch, worked till 4:30am. Still would have been nice to pick up a few new pieces for my "whole in the wallet".

Glad you all had a good time. Even though my work often keeps me from participating in these events, its great for the local reefing community that there is the Reef Network & guys like TomR & Jason McK who are willing to put in the time to organize great events like these.
