The niger is great, the scopas keeps him inline for the most part. He does have to be the first to eat though.
|
A little update on the rest of the room.

Still looks pretty empty! :D
Do you plan to return the room how it was, or do you have any other plans for it? How about an updated equipment room photo? |
EMPTY! That sure took the wind out of my sails.
The room will be used for the same purposes as before just upgraded with new furniture etc. and a tank in the wall. |
Sounds like it will be nice and cozy when its done.

my bad

Its looks great, especially your new angel. How is he getting along with the female?

I think its time to clean the back glass.
|
Hey Lando, dam nice garden...love the fish...more pic's:morning:
|
Have you considered an urchin? That's one of the reasons I keep some. :)

I did not know that urchins keep glass clean.
|
It depends on what urchin and what algae you have, but, for example, in my 110g I have a diadema and green urchin and man are they pretty voracious little lawnmowers.
I had a fuzzy type algae growing over coraline on the back glass of my other tank, and a blue tuxedo urchin took care of that pretty lickedy-split. But, it's also an eater of coraline. Although I don't find that to be a problem because what happens is the spores get spread out and thus you have new coraline growth being spread. So it evens out. I dunno, maybe YMMV but I like having 'em, I find them useful. :) |
I missed the urchin class at reef school. What is a YMMV urchin. Are blue tuxedos' hard to find.
|
Oh - sorry - YMMV = "Your mileage may vary" -> maybe not all opinions of urchins are like mine, I don't know. They seem to be raspers of hard surfaces. Not a silver bullet for algae control but they definitely help just the same as other herbivores. They seem to be available from time to time.

Bam! Very nice, I like the pinks.
I might think about losing the caulerpa though. That's a guaranteed headache for you sooner or later (having it in the main display that is). I put some in my tank in 2002 - it still shows up every few months despite I-don't-know-how-many-times I've "eradicated" it. Apparently it's also not good for SPS in close proximity due to allelopathy. (Although I can't say that it looks like your SPS growth is stunted. :) ) |
Lando, I think I saw that pink birdsnest on frags.org. I'd like a frag sometime :)
As well, do I see the back glass cleaned from the previous pics? My glass looks similar, but I've been hesitant to clean it....mostly because I don't know how. Will there be chunks of stuff floating around the tank?!?! But your tank looks GREAT. Love all the SPS. And, of course, the Watanabes...if that is what they are. |
filling out nicely
|
The caulerpa came out of nowhere, I never wanted any macro in the display. Eventually when I get time I am going to get rid of it. Hopefully sooner than later. The halimedia is also becoming a PIA.
Chef: I used a easy blade scaper to clean the glass. Yes stuff was floating everywhere and as you can see I am not finished yet. |
Wow, it looks like you've had amazing growth and new colors since the J&L order we did awhile back!
|
WOW looks fantastic.
I have had caulerpa issues in the past. Best to find time soon. If you don't want it in the tank it will be your worst nightmare J |

Exactly the same thing happend to me.
In my old 75 I had a few spots that I would prune and make all nice. But when I tore the tank down my rock work was glued together with the stuff. pounds of it. and you know you couldn't see it from the front. J |
I know what you mean, I have been trying to keep it in check but it really is smart stuff.
|
So here's my question: if it's in the back and you can't see it...then why bother? Doesn't it out-compete things like hair algae and bubble algae? Wouldn't that be a good thing? Or is it just the fact that, if it's in the back, behind everything, it will continue to spread to the front and be a nuisance?
|
It can go sexual a release bad stuff into the water, I believe some people have had tank crashes do to this happening. The main problem I am having is it is really hard to pull off the rock the main stock is attached every couple inches or so.

New Blue Throat Trigger Pair
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/...lon/IMG011.jpg I think they like each other. |
Nice Picture of the triggers man .
|
|
Awe! They look like they are kissing!
|
man you have some nice growth and thick stems
|
It does look like those two triggers get along. I haven't seen my male blue throat ever behave nicely to the female.
Get some food into that male...he's thin. |

Is the male the one on the right?

Yes, he is on the right.
