In this case you should not pay a cent. They should not have even put 1.00 in the value box. I know if I ship to the states there is a place I can check for warranty/repair and you can write that in the description. If this was done you wouldnt be paying. I would contact UPS and let them know the situation and demand them to reverse the charge. |
Here's my emails with ups lol
I replie to this and said then why am I being charged for a item that was worth $1 cad? *Subject General / General * * *Response (Louise L.) 01/16/2013 07:22 PM Dear Philip, Thank you for your reply. A Brokerage fee is charged to process your shipment and present your paperwork to customs on your behalf. All courier shipments with a value exceeding $20 CAD require customs clearance by a broker. The customs clearance procedure requires the broker to perform, on behalf of the importer, a number of tasks. Tasks include, but are not limited to, auditing import documentation, classification of the commodity being imported, and preparation and transmission of accounting information to Canada Customs. The UPS Customs Brokerage published rate schedule is competitive with industry standards. You may find our rates for customs clearance into Canada at: http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shi...clearance.html. When accessing the link for Rates for Customs Clearance into Canada, please review the complete fee schedule provided. Please note: Entry Preparation Charges, Disbursement Fees and Additional Services may apply to your shipment. I am sorry for any confusion caused by the Brokerage fee. Please contact us if you need any additional assistance. Louise L. I talked to numerous other people that shipped the same item to the same place and back and they wernt charged it like u just pick and choose who your going to charge and also everyone eles I talked to refuse to buy from companies that only ship ups because of this reason. I would like a refund of the 24.88 because there is absolutely no reason to charge this fee on a warrantee return item that was made in the USA in the first place.* Sent from my iPhone On 2013-01-16, at 12:14 AM, "custsvccaen@ups.com" <custsvccaen@ups.com> wrote: *Response (Louise L.) 01/16/2013 02:14 AM Dear Philip, Thank you for your e-mail. Hi I shipped a package to the USA it was a warrintee issue. The place then shipped back the item fixed. When usp deliverd the item I was charged ( duty/brokerage fees) now the item was made in the USA and I shipped it down there they shipped it back I didn't purchase anything so why am I being charged duty and or brokerage fees. This is a rip off and I would like a refund. * [---001:003194:60025---] |
need to realize brokerage fees are not duty, it's just what you're paying a courier to move the package across the border. Since the companies set their own rates even if you were sending a empty box with UPS they would still be screwing you with brokerage.

Tha not what there policy says it have to be over $20 dollars to b charged the fee and on the ups form it says ($1usd ) value
|
"All courier shipments with a value exceeding $20 CAD require customs clearance by a broker", that's not to say a they won't charge you a fee for them to tell Customs the package they are transporting is a low dollar amount.
Good luck though on getting your money back. |
I understand the OPs original post and hope they get their money back
I was ripped-off bigtime last year by UPS, and I never got my money back ... I bought $100 of product from the US and paid $43 to accept the package No reason, no refund ... complained to their brokerage dept but it went nowhere UPS charges way too much in brokerage fees :surprise: I avoid them whenever possible :twised: |
