I'm waiting for the boyfriend to make a second account and see the newbie first post on here with a new Luxim Seashine lighting system or something. haha

But seriously, everyone has long term plans for the tank, hinting at finding out his next step might be the best bet. Failing that, i think the mermaid idea is by far the best suggestion yet.

+1 for the mermaid idea.....+100 for pics and videos:biggrin:

here is my take this they have a 140g and a 300g not yet set up due to lack of space and money. which i can understand not cheap to get started. if you reallly want to surprise him this is my thought.sit back do a take on your living space and contemplate what space you can spare for him to set up his 300g tank.

once you have foundthis space (since your willing tospend under 1k...) get him a visa gift certificate for however much you wish. stick the gift certificate in or under furnature box you get the idea and tie a string to it. thread the sting around the house to the entry point when he comes inthe door. with a note follow me.

a: youo will surprise the hellout of him.. and give him a littll estart up money to slowly set up his 300g.. and maybe he may shut down the 140 to gain back space for you.

just my thought

wish my misses was gettin me something reef related lol but she aint reefsafe so im not allowed to have anything to do with tanks for my gift......unless one of the lfs does a gift exchange program:):) awesome that your doing this for him:)

im going to go with some of the others and say a gift card is the best thing you can give him in this hobby and its all about the presentation:):)

OK HERE IT IS: get the mermaid costume and the coconut bra IS A MUST, buy him a gift card, leave a path of something leading to the bathroom where you are waiting for him in a nice hot bath (bubbles optional) when he walks in to the room tell him is gift is hidden somewhere in the tub. Where you hide the gift card is up to you.:lol:

I here you on this one too. Wife loves to look / watch the tank but hates when I spend money on it, unless it is something she see's and likes.

Get him a new hobby, I love fish stuff too but there are plenty of other things that would surprise me more at Christmas. Like a puppy  or more seriously a Traxxas Summit RC 4WD Electric Monster Truck. I can't imagine anyone not having a tonne of fun that thing.

At the end of the day the guy sounds like he's got the aquarium stuff under control, he can obviously get whatever he wants without any issues. The best kind of gift is something he wants but has been told he can't have. If there's something you've put your foot down on in the past the best gift you can possibly give is a lighter foot. Trust me guys are just like girls, they want what they can't have.

Give him a gift certificate at either j+l or ocean aquatics and let him run wild....

OOOPs, there you go guys, you just got him in trouble. He has been nabbed!

Personally as there is so much stuff out there, and many things can be a personal preference, I would suggest a gift certificate to your LFS (local fish store). He probably would appreciate that the most!

On a funny note, since you didn't know about the cost of the MP40's, give him a picture of them wrapped up, and say surprise. These were your gift.

I'm still confused how this guy is active on this board and won't know this is about him. How many other people will have a 140gal reef setup with two MP40s and a 300 gallon tank lying around that they aren't allowed to setup? I'm pretty sure that's not too typical.
