Yes it has become absolutely atrocious. I am wondering if the school system is really trying. As an example I don't want to name names hehe, but a horrible example is the new Northern member haha. I hope I am being noncommittal enough. :rolleyes:

the problem with the younger generation is there dependence upon word processers with spell check.

My self, well lets just say way back when (Bob you might remember this) Canada though that it might be better to teach children to spell phoneticly when they are first learning to spell. as a result of this they set up test groups which consisted of classes in random schools though out Canada. needless to say the first crack at "hooked on phonics" was a utter failure as they didn't plan for the transition from phonetioc spelling to proper spelling.

unfortunatly I was in one of the test classes.

No, I was not aware of that. Remember I was an immigrant, who started in grade six in Canada. It does explain a lot though. :eek:

ya but you started grade 6 in what year? this happened around 1975
but ya you would have been past that level by then.

That would have been in 1952. It is a fascinating subject though. I can't see how one could teach spelling phonetically when so many words sound the same, but have different meanings. An example would be "seem" and "seam". :neutral:
