I don't want to hijack the thread so I will keep it short. And I didn't really post anything, kept it to myself and with Kevin @ Red Coral.... I guess kinda ashamed to my situation.

I had kinda the same problem as Snappy and others, can't explain why, but corals started receeding fast and just plain dying. I had many colonies and most frags just die. Lost about 15 or so, some nice colonies. Basically hundreds to thousands of dollars gone.

I couldn't figure out why, even took water to Kevin @ Red Coral and he is scratching is head, as everything was spot on. It came on fast so I can only think of 2 things:

1.) Something in the water (via Calgary water supply) that the RO Filter could not remove.
2.) Lighting - this is a new thought, as my recovery has been slow. Just 2 days ago I posted about this. I am thinking my lighting to be very potent, especially when I keep the lights on for 11 hours. This is the new Hamilton Belize, and maybe much more efficient than the Coralife. It was brought to my attention that too much light can destroy things within the coral itself and cause color loss and RTN. Good article that was posted, look up my thread and you can take a peak.

So as of yesterday I now changed my lighting pattern to turn on the actinics at 9am, then at 4pm turn on the MH's for 5 hours, turning off at 9pm, then the actinics turn off at pm. I will see how the corals respond to this.

It has been a challenge over the summer, again can't explain why and tried everything, so lighting seems to be the last thing. You know this hobby, sometimes you just don't know.

If you have any thoughts, please I am open to any ideas!

Rick

Sorry to hear of those issues man. I think too much light can certainly be detrimental (but not like that!) but there has been a lot of bad luck in Calgary lately I wish we knew why.

Laurier will you accept trades? My daughter is going through her horrible three's but I've got her eating most everything including veggies. Hasn't touched a single coral of mine either. Lemme know. Otherwise I will stockpile some sheckles for the next time you unload this thing!
