I guess this is the crucial piece of the puzzle that I was missing! Thanks. Yeah, I like them snowy white.

mine are very clean...not sparkling white...I take it out of service and straight to the front load washer as its dripping in a bucket....toss it in......so one at a time....

Ok, cold water, no detergent, no bleach, no vinegar, and one at time. What kind of freaky alien technology is YOUR washer? I wish I bought one of those then!!! What cycle are you using? Transporter technology? No seriously, what cycle are you using then?? How dirty are you letting them get before you wash?

My front loader cleans them without issue.

PS as wicked frags is watching threads a reply to my PM would be appreciated:)

I hate having to keep them in buckets until I have 2 or 3 ready to be cleaned, by that time it's so skanky and gross it makes you want to pass out from the smell!

I knew there was a reason I never used filter socks ....

I'm on the fence whether I keep them for my new tank. On my cube it's basically a necessity because the sump length is too short (28" long, fits in the stand, it's a 30" cube) for the amount of flow the sump sees between the skimmer and the sump return itself, so without it, the tank has terrible microbubbles. They do help keep the water polished clean though and also work to prevent a gunk buildup in the sump, so they do have some advantages.

Glad I read this post cause I have been throwing my filter socks away and just buying new ones everytime. I guess I didn't think you could wash them.

Thanks guys! I will try to wash mine too!
