Here's the sad part, after the removal of those colonies, I didn't have room for a single frag to come up from the basement. I had to to some rescuing of others shaded corals and some moving around and I even had to get rid of two colonies and move them into the frag tank. Looks like I'll have to get rid of quite a bit more. Another sad thing is that I forgot to take a full tank shot before the major removal. I don't even have a recent FTS :(. That saltynuts was an inch from the water surface. |
Damn Dez, I knew I should have come up today ( Tuesday ) instead of tomorrow ( Wednesday ) I would have helped clean up that forest, would have even brought up my own coral axe
What are you up to Wednesday? I will be in your area, I mean your rental building. |
Here's a FTS from your living room side I took when I was there helping you change frag tanks.

Wow am I jealous. Your pulling out full colonies because you are running out of room and all I want my frags to do is grow into small colonies at this point.
Some day.... |
Grizz, thanks for the FTS. By Wednesday do you mean today? Give me a shout if you still have my number. If it's sunny today I'll be slip n sliding with the kids in the backyard.
Badazz, it gets to the point where the corals all start killing each other by shading, touching. And then you can't move anything cause everything is stuck together. And once you move or unlodge anything, you won't be able to put it back cause it won't balance or stay and no amount of putty will hold it cause it's too big. I had to remove 2 smaller colonies after Parker left cause I couldn't put them back. |
Hey hey hey... slow down there big fella!! Do I need to come into town this weekend or what?! lol

All kidding aside, there's lots Johnny. I wasn't quite expecting to harvest thy much last night, but my hands were in there and I was determined to get some corals "unshaded" |

Tonight the Grizz came by and took a couple more large colonies off me. I took out a bucket sized blue german digi tonight. I grew this from a frag
http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1311216098 And a comparison to the size of my head http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1311216210 Grizz also took a monti confusa? colony that was being shaded. My blue digi was being shaded like crazy so only 1/3 of it had good colour. Anyway, I will keep updating as I remove colonies. |
well back on track..... HOLY CRAP that is huge. keep the pictures coming, i want to see the rest of your stuff that comes out of that tank.
|
Dez, I'm sure the tank will look amazing once your done. I'm surprised your not doing this for a living, you obviously have the talent for growing corals.
|
My frag of the same stuff from Kien has grown massive too. The branches are so thick too. A real shade-maker!

Wow, another big clean out event, I bet the tank still looks full though!
|
My fish are starting to hate me as I'm taking their homes away as I remove large colonies. It is interesting to see the personality change as they swim around looking for their previous home.
|
Some times I really wish I lived in Calgary. I would love to be able to stop by and check out your tank in person. Dez, your tank is amazing. I put mine tank together the same time as yours but only with half of the growth compare to what you got. I was running pellets but now considering swtiching over to zeo. Do you think if you ran it without zeo, it wouldn't have gave you such a good results? I would love to hear your input.
|
Sheez. None of my tanks have had as much total growth as one of those corals. Amazing sps keeping skills Dez.

Well I figure anyone following this journal is curious to see the full tank shots. Here's a quick cell phone picture, the colours are way off, but it's just to give you an idea of what's changed since in the last 2 nights there has been 8 large colonies that have been removed. There is someone coming over tonight again to get some colonies. Anyway, here it is. You can see some of the cyano that I'm battling too.

Can you see my fugly powerhead in the pic?....it pains me Brett. PAIN! Hopefully after tonight I'll remove more colonies so that it will open up my intended see through valley from the beginning stages of planning. It was open, and then the dang corals decided to close up the valley by growing into it. |

The tank still looks great and full. Hard to imagine where those other colonies were.
|
Looks much better now IMO, I can';t belive you've pulled out so many colonies adn your tank still looks like an SPS forest. Looks great.
|
i think you forgot to remove the colonies, the tank is a bit full still. :)

Old wives tale says if you talk to you house plants they will grow happy & healthy. Is that your secret Dez, you sit in your office whispering sweet nothing to your corals  I can see it know.
Well all I can say is you sure are doing something very right, your tank amazes me every time I see it. The colonies & frags I picked up are doing well & will be in there permeant home this week. Thank again my friend, still need a few more frags of a couple different things so when you have something sweet let me know. |

These are horrible pics from when I got these and because neither grew at all until recently I don't have better shots...
