Thanks Mike. The skimmer is in a closet on the other side of the wall. Dead quiet.

Yeah, and that many eggs every week.
So far I really like the Mocean. No more dead spots.

I swear it gets bigger every day. It is now 16" across by 16" high.

Good things come to good people. I foresee an even nicer lastlight V-2 in the near future.

I got myself a Tank-bred Yellow Assessor from J&L today. He's chillin' in the frag tank right now and hiding under some rock so I can't get a pic.
I don't think I should put him in the big tank (too many big lunkers in there), so his new home will be the 90 corner tank. Cute little guy!

marie 11-13-2010 05:31 AM

My 5 flashers have disappeared into the rock and I haven't seen them since....I have no idea if they are cute or not

those are great little fish Lance.....I love mine......always out and hovering (not like the blue assessor I have in my small tank......I never see it when the lights are on, even though its the only fish in the tank).....and so far my yellow doesnt seem to be too aggressive.....mind you the only fish mine could bully is a tailspot that is the same-ish size but was in the tank before the assessor....

That's because they're all shy little girls still. As soon as one of them turns into a handsome young man he'll lure those fillies out into the open.

It should do fine in the 90g. His tank mates are a Coral Beauty, smallish Foxface, Ruby Headed Wrasse, 2 Percs, PJ Cardinal, Yellow Watchman Goby, and two cleaner shrimp.

I have a Sedra pump powering two reactors in the sump, which is kind of silly since I have a Barracuda return pump that is only using about 70% capacity. I want to "T" off one of the return lines to feed the reactors.
My question is: How long should I allow the Weld-On P-70 primer and PVC 795 to dry before going back on-line? The can says 30 minutes cure time, but I don't trust that to a tank full of fish and corals. Anybody had any experience using Weld-On on a running tank? 24 hours or less/more?

burrows14 11-13-2010 06:19 PM

You would be good to go in 15 mins. I have used both plumbing a bunch of friends tanks. I always use the prime the fittings and let it dry completly before glueing. Be genourous with the glue and make sure to give the pipe a quater turn to make sure their is no air bubbles and the glue is spread evenly and then use paper towel to wipe off the excess glue. You should have no leaks and a nice clean look that way.

Cheers
Ray

Thanks Ray. I wanna make sure I'm understanding you. I've used Weld-On plenty of times. It's not the cure time of the glue or the procedure I'm worried about, it's the effect of the glue on a tank full of animals that worries me. Am I understanding that after 15 minutes of curing there was no problem on an inhabited tank?

Zoaelite 11-13-2010 06:45 PM

WOW those fish can produce a whack load of eggs, ever find any little babies swimmin about? Tanks lookin wicked as usual!

Thanks. Nope, I've never seen any babies. They probably hatch out at night and are skimmed off.

lastlight 11-13-2010 07:41 PM

I had finished doing some plumbing on my first tank and I must have let the parts sit drying for at least 30 min. I wanted to know if it was still wet and decided to put my nose to one end of the plumbing and 'take a wiff'.

I damn near fell over everything went black. I don't think I had used more glue than needed either I'm just saying the stuff was still potent. 30 min seems too soon to me.

Thanks for the pics Lance.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking: If you can still smell it, it's not fully cured. I think I'll leave it until no odor left.

lastlight 11-13-2010 08:13 PM

When you do your nose test just use one nostril that way you can only HALF blackout. It works like that right!?

Jeez! I don't know. I'm already a half-wit. Might only take one nostril to put me on the floor.

I have glued my last fitting, double checked everything and fired up with no harm to fish and corals. I wouldn't worry about it all.. The tank volume would dilute it and I'm sure your running carbon. If you drop the whole can in tho... Totally different story lol

OK, I'm feeling better about it. And I won't drop the can in the tank.

I've tried numerous times to catch this on video but when I get the camera out all the fish get camera shy.

ROUND AND ROUND THE ROCKS WE GO

Finally managed to get a short video of the Kole trying another of his ploys: He swims around and around the rocks pretending to ignore the Chromis and the eggs. When the Chromis is looking the other way he swoops in and trys to grab some eggs. The Chromis and eggs are just above and to the right. click on the photo

What a jackass. A smart jackass. He must do that when he takes his 5 min daily break from grazing.

Lance 11-17-2010 12:35 AM

So, ever since Christy's posts regarding her using sodium hydroxide for pest eradication I've been wanting to try some myself. Today I acquired some from a friend and I have to say: "This Stuff is Awesome!!!" For the first attempt I only used about 5 ml in a syringe. Turned off all the pumps and proceeded to absolutely nuke a patch of Majanos that was bothering my Caulastrea. They pretty much melt on contact. It was so much fun I was giddy. I felt like Darth Vader with his light saber cutting a swath of destruction before me. I can't wait to try it again: Die you Majanos, and Aiptasia, and stupid Palys, and Fugly mushrooms and nuisance algae! Die!

Delphinus 11-17-2010 03:06 AM

Any idea where a person without friends with sodium hydroxide can get some? I mean, I shouldn't assume my friends do or don't, but I can't really see a good way to lead into the question "Hey, we should go for beer and wings .. heyyyyy, got any sodium hydroxide by chance?"

As far as I know Tony you can only get it from chemical supply outlets. Maybe you can order it on-line, I don't know. I looked at our plumbing supply store for some pure stuff, but it seems to all be mixed with other chemicals and I wouldn't trust it in an aquarium. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Lance 11-17-2010 11:41 PM

Today I tried the sodium hydroxide on a colony of Palythoas that has been a PITA for years. Turned off the pumps and using a hypodermic I squirted a smallish area, (about the size of a toonie), left the stuff alone for about 5 minutes and then siphoned up the precipitate. The Palys are absolutely gone and the rock is totally bare. Not a thing on it: totally nuked. I love this stuff! No more Joe's Juice, lemon juice, kalk paste or any of those other remedies that only half-assed work. This stuff is the real deal people!
Tommorow's Mission: A few Aiptasia in the 90g and some more majanos in the 225g.

lastlight 11-17-2010 11:58 PM

Where did you get it? Or is this something common with a common name and I'm just clueless?

PoonTang 11-18-2010 12:02 AM

Stuff might even work on evil Beagles too. :twised:

You can get it at some hobby stores that have soapmaking supplies or online from soapmaking shops, its more commonly known as lye in that case

Stupid Triggerfish!

Bubba's greed is going to be his undoing one day. This morning I was on another majano killing spree with the sodium hydroxide, and before I could shoo him away he darted in and ate some precipitate! He then quickly hid in the rockwork and I didn't see him for several hours. At feeding time however he was slamming back mysis as per usual. Must have a blistered mouth though. IDIOT!!!

Lance 12-03-2010 02:56 AM

Had the camera out tonight to take some pics of the 90g and figured I might as well take a few of the 225 as well:
