those tank/stand combos look AMAZING =)

Nice to see a well thought out plan coming together.
Tagging along

1. ZOMG that set up is dead sexy! I would visit the store just to stare at the empty tanks and stands.
2. Chicks with large power tools! You guys/gals are SERIOUS !
3. Nice camera! Get extension tubes for your 24-105 and you won't ever use the 100mm Macro again :-D You'll get more depth of field with your closeups/macros. 100mm macro is nice too but much more challenging to get useable depth of field.

Thanks for the tip!

I have been experimenting with a 25mm extension tube. I just don't have enough experience with them yet to determine what lens would be best for my application. I am looking forward to spending some time with it.

Kraken 08-07-2013 11:25 PM

Or you can use the extension tubes on the 100mm macro to blow things up even more!

or that :-) I find it exceptionally challenging to have extension tubes on the 100mm macro though.. but that's probably just me. Your depth of field is razor thin.

Ya, I usually end up at like f16 which is virtually impossible for me to use while suspended over my tank LOL.

Kraken 08-07-2013 11:49 PM

Psssh who needs to lean over when you got one of THESE!!

I use a good Manfrotto tripod so I have the luxury of slow shutter speeds.

I picked up some more gear for the 6D today because we plan on taking some good quality videos. I got a Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye lens, Sennheiser MKE600 shotgun mic and Beachtek DXA-SLR Pro audio pre-amp.

It's amazing how high the video quality is on DSLR cams now but the audio is still lacking so an external mic and pre-amp is needed.

We didn't get much work done today after receiving a shipment of remote controlled fish.

Here is a picture of our new resident shark. We also have the clownfish version. Both versions will be added to our website shortly!

I have to say...that just looks like a toy I want to play with. The whole build is great!

Kraken 08-10-2013 06:31 AM

Nice rig. I wonder what the video on the fisheye looks like. I probably woulda opted for a 35mm since it looks like you have quite a lot of space. Thats just me though

eli@fijireefrock.com 08-10-2013 06:32 AM

I must say that's a sweet setup:thumb: you got there with your fancy lasers:laser: and flying fish...

Thanks!

The 8-15mm fisheye lens wont be used for videos. I will use the 24-105mm lens.

Nice gear! How do you like the new 6d? It's nice to finally see Canon offering an affordable full frame camera. Have you tried the wifi capability on it yet?

I absolutely love it.

Picture quality is effortless. I may be able to achieve similar quality with my T3i but it requires more work. I am sure the higher quality glass helps. :)

The Wi-Fi feature works great on the iPad but I am not really impressed with the app. Canon only made the app work on the iPhone. You need to zoom the app 2X on the iPad. It would have been nice of them to make an iPad native app.

We received a shipment yesterday that included our return pumps (speedwave 1320) and skimmer (Vertex Alpha 250) so we were able to finish gluing all the plumbing.

We also got some Tunze waveboxes and Tunze 6255 pumps. The LPS systems will have two waveboxes and two 6255, the SPS system will have four 6255's. The 6255's are controllable from 1300gph to 4800gph each.

Today's task is to silicone one overflow box so that we can get 1 out of 4 tanks filled with water. It's getting close!!!!

We use very little GFO so we only need the Phosban 150 reactor. For carbon, we will be using the Phosban 550 reactor.

J_T 08-13-2013 11:31 PM

Don't put that silicone away. I have a feeling you will need to do the other 3 sooner than later :)

Aqua-Digital 08-14-2013 11:49 AM

Your light order was put in yesterday ;) keeping fingers crossed for week 1 September for you.

Amazing build.

The remote control fish takes me back to my Pink Floyd days with the remote control Pig!

Aqua-Digital 08-14-2013 11:51 AM

Have you thought about using the RO cansiter style PO4 and carbon filter pods? So much easier to maintain, I always found the phosban type a PITA to service.

I've been using them for years and haven't tried anything else. The only reason I prefer the Phosban reactors is because you can hang them off the lip of the sump.

Aqua-Digital 08-14-2013 01:35 PM

yes this is a good feature, I have my dual RO style reactor hanging on the wall.

Bugger 08-14-2013 10:33 PM

So which lights did you decide to go with?

We ordered 24 of the GHL Mitras LX6200.

We also had some extension cables made so that we could use them on our systems.

Aqua-Digital 08-15-2013 12:11 PM

Canada Corals will be an awesome place for GTA reefers to experience the Mitras for sure.

xenon 08-15-2013 12:26 PM

The only thing I am not looking forward to is installing Windows on my Macbook.

Aqua-Digital 08-15-2013 12:56 PM

if you can find a s/h cheap laptop you would then have a dedicated system.

Are the extension cords 3" thick? :) That would be a lot of current draw even with the LEDs.

Looking forward to seeing the completed warehouse.

Aqua-Digital 08-15-2013 02:39 PM

they are 3 meters long

DAVE 08-15-2013 03:22 PM

This is an epic build with no expense sparred. I hope you guys can get enough business to keep it going, I can't imagine having that much overhead. The amount of frags needed to be turned over would be HUGE!!!

Good luck and I will be sure to visit when you are open to the public.
