Whoa, those look really tiny! On the bright side, they look really easy to expand. Just cut a tab out (in between two slits) effectively making larger teeth.
Is the tank under warranty? You could have concepts correct it if it is. |
Wouldn't that make them too large? For smaller fish to slip through?

Maybe another alternative is to cut out the entire weir section (all the teeth) and epoxy a whole new grate/weir grills over the weir area? Or use egg grate inside the weir. |

Yes we had a run of tanks that had this problem:redface: didn't realize at the time the surface tension of water would back up with those size cuts! we figure it would look cleaner but never work out that way give Denny a call at the shop at 5873237360 and i will have a new panel made up and overnight it out to you thanks Dave |
Super Dave to the rescue..... Lol this is why so many like concept.. It should be easy to replace Trevor just sucks that you will have to drain the tank but if carefully you shouldn't have to move your rockscape

absolutely , we had several tanks that we did this too , like dave said the idea was to make it a cleaner look but for some of the large tanks it couldnt handle it. right now we go with a machined 1/4" notches for all tanks. i have spoken with trevor on the phone and we are in the works of getting this resolved quickly for him. in the mean time trevor just break off the current teeth you have this will allow you to finish up with your plumbing, i will have new acrylic out to you immediately:) cheers buddy denny concept aquatics |

Thank You for your timely response in helping me rectify this issue! |
I would also like to give a huge thanks to Lockrookie and Kien and everyone else who has so quickly helped me through troubleshooting this issue. It reasons like this that make a strong online forum so invaluable.
|
Eh... Kien and the others had the right idea from the start I was originally in denial of the teeth lol just glad you got it taken care of.

UPDATE #1 While I was waiting for the new overflow teeth I got started on my panels for my stand. Nothing major so far just 2 coats of primer/sealer. I am still undecided on if i am going to go with White, Grey, or Black for the final colour. Cue the shotty cell phone pics..... UPDATE #2 I also just this evening installed the new acrylic overflow teeth. I'm not entirely happy with it and once dried I will be touching up what I can. So yet again, cue the cell phone pics.... Let me know what you guys think of the stand and my fix on the overflow. |
I think if you were to slip a thin piece of black or paint over flow black the look would improve as the teeth would disappear just a thought

I was thinking the overflow box then if you look down they arent so noticeable and the silicone is fine as like painting a room the only one that sees the mistakes is the painter

+1, I would also make one taller. Very nice setup and tank!

I plan on "sculpting" the islands into different shapes with the placement of corals, and yes I agree one island should look taller. I hope to achieve that with the proper placement of corals. |
So I am contemplating on going a different direction with my lights over this tank. I am thinking about swapping out the 48" tek elite 8 bulb for leds. What would you put over this tank in regards to leds?
|
Two GHL Mitras, done. Thank me later.
|
Somehow I dont think my wallet or my my wife would be hahahahaha.
I am thinking going with AI SOL blues x 3 or the new Hydras x 3. Mounted front to back evenly spaced along the length of the tank. So like [ I I I ] not [ - - - ] or what would you guys recommend? Thanks for the input. |
I'm sure some of you are wondering just what became of this tank, well...., after facing a couple hurdles namly my wife absolutly hating the 8 bulb tek elite fixture I tore the entire tank down inturn losing my hardscape. Although I knew I would be setting it up as a reef tank in the future I kept everything. After tearing it down I decided to make it a discus biotope style aquarium like my other tank that I have. I am a freshwater guy originally. So it just seemed like a no brainer. So this is what I made it into.....
So after finding myself very unhappy and constantly lurking on forums like canreef I woke up early one day and said screw this! I am going to tear it down again and try and rebuild my hardscape and sell off my tek elite 8 bulb ( which will be posted forsale soon if anyone is interested haha) and invest in some leds to appease my wife and so it began.... Sorry about the glare from the window the right side island is actually not touching the right pane at all and is quite aways away similar to my previous scape. I am pretty happy with how it turned out. Its not the same as how it was before but I feel that I actually improved on it this time. Its really hard to get a feel for the new layout with the quick shotty cell phone pics. I will try and get some better pics up when I get back on friday. I was really worried about trying to replicate my past rockwork and I am very relieved that it was infact so easy believe it or not but this only took me roughly 15-20 mins. So what do you guys think? |
Any thoughts on lighting?

Having said that, I know people growing mixed reefs under pretty much all the LED fixtures on the market today. Lots of nice tanks under Radions, AI Sols, Mitras, Vertex, Kessils. They all get the job done. They all have different costs though and have different implementations. For example, I would say the Mitras are at the top of the heap and their price reflects that mainly because they are the most flexible. Flexible meaning they are ridiculously programatically customizable. At the other end of the spectrum (no pun intended, sort of) the relatively inexpensive Kessils are kind of a no frills unit. ON and OFF and an analog dial to mix White and Blue is all you get. However, with the kessils you also get a tightly packed LED array which a lot of people like. Everyone else kinda falls in between (in my opinion). |

Thanks for the general info on the different fixtures. Its greatly appreciated. What would you do in my situation? Fork out the extra $ for the LEDs or try and find my b*lls in my wifes purse and keep the TEK? LOL I had my eye on the Sol because I found a used one but it sold and if I went used it wouldnt be as big of a hit on the wallet. |
