I'm sorry but your tank contains too much AWSOMESAUCE to be considered a newbie tank. I call shenanigans!

.. Seriously tho, I want to hear more about this tank.

Proteus 11-16-2012 07:43 PM

.....very nice tank

Ryan-b 11-16-2012 08:01 PM

Thanks :).

I started up the tank about a year ago this time, I had a little 40g tank for about 6 months prior to this one transferred everything over and started adding corals in January. Most if not all the coral was purchased as frags so the growths been decent I guess, I'm not to happy with the colors so I will be switching to mh/t5 in the next month to see if I like it better.

So I have been doing the SW thing for about 1.5 years I still consider myself a noob.

Ps Kien some of the frags are from you :)

Cool! So tell us a little about your husbandry (dosing, additives, reactors, etc). Wait, do you have a build thread/journal?!

Ryan-b 11-17-2012 12:56 AM

I do a 30g water change every 2-4 weeks.

Dose calcium(420)/alk(8)/mag(1350) via a marine magic doser, not sure quantities as I adjust the timer as my levels fall, i go through a gallon jug every 2-3 weeks.

I run carbon/gfo in a TLF reactor. Change out the carbon once every month or 2, and the gfo when ever my po4 gets above .03

I dont add any additives, or run anything like pellets, or zeo.

I only skim 12hours a day as I find the skimmer to noisy during the day, I tried skimming 24/7 for a couple weeks and had a cyano out break, not sure if this had anything to do with it.

Besides that I just let it run as I have a 2 year old and a 4 month old so I dont have a ton of time to play with it quite as much as I would like, but maybe thats a good thing.

I do have a Journal but I dont really update it I have a coupel pics on there.

Did we run out of newbies? ;)

Dearth 11-21-2012 02:26 AM

If a lot of the news are like me they are probably embarrassed to post tank shots because so many of the tank shots posted on this site are awesome while us newbies have plain tanks compared to the guys with older established tanks.

Like I stated in an earlier post most on this forum are helpful and supportive unlike most of the SW forums I've visited.

Newbs post yer tank shots I don't think anybody will judge your tank harshly

And that's why this thread exists :) To make ourselves feel comfy :D

Lol. No that's the corner they stay to for almost a year, there's always a frag of something getting moved around in my tank the zoas were placed there while I did a water change. I have to move certain frags on the bottom when I do it as the tanks bare bottom. It's easier to get all the poop that way. :P

Haha. I was like clown hosting a zoa - that's something new. But clowns are always up for crazy hosting patterns so thought the zoa might be his home :P

Well here is my FTS for you all to drool over lol. Legit newb here as this is my first SW and only second post! My tank is a 28 JBJ HQI with stock everything but a MP10ES for a powerhead and a JBJ ATO. It has only been running since October 14th. So far so good.

Thanks Kien. Yeah the Urchin is pretty cool but he is a bit of a pain. He likes to wear my little Zoa frags so I finally had enough of picking them off of him and glued them down on my live rock.

Or you could have glued it to your preferred place ;)

So out of curiosity which members are considered "elite"? Have to say some of the newbie tanks pictured here look better then mine :redface:
