Looking forward to seeing your glass box!!

I checked out some of these L tanks on RC, there's one a fellow by the name of Peter and Mr. Wilson did that is absolutely mind blowing. I think it was 1,350 gl dt, then all the support systems. Never in my life will I have or want a build like that, but that's the nice thing about this hobby, you can do what suits you, try something different and have something to enjoy "most" of the time for many years.

If you watch the show "Tanked" they did an episode which included installing a feeding tube into the return.

Why do you need a feeding tube?

Your tank will have access from the top, right?

........... yes but it's not an open top design. I wanted to incorporate one for the pure ease of feeding the fish from one location...
Simplicity- lol

Just the one yup, 2 (1 1/2) bulk heads in the external overflow feed to a single line into the basement- a spare (1") is "t'd" into it incase of blockage.

Sound will not be what you think, two socks and foam will be added. Just waiting on glass....

Slimmer: Vertex 250
2 TLF reactors
Reef Keeper Lite
Ph/temp monitors
Reeflo Hybrid pump 3600gph
2x 300 watt heaters
ATO: Tunze
That's it sump side, K.I.S.S.

Are you using a durso style drain?

Salt2Death 09-20-2012 09:23 PM

So far that's the plan, twin jobs!

For a single drain line, a Hofer Gurgle Buster is very quiet.

Very nice! It's coming together nicely.

What are you going to fill the TLF Reactors with?

If you're planning on one carbon, and one GFO, you should plumb them seperately because they will both require different flow rates to work properly.

intarsiabox 09-24-2012 05:41 PM

Set up is looking great so far! Neil did my tank as well and did a great job. I'm looking forward to seeing this one get wet!

Salt2Death 09-25-2012 03:18 PM

I'm really happy with Neil's work, he really turns out Grade A aquariums!

After a minor setback today I'm playing with some dry rock structures and see what shapes we can build.

Ideas: Shallow Side, more arches and swim through... Deep End, try for a big aver hang and more of a build up or dry and live rock.

Suggestions.....?

That's probably how I would do it. Have a more of a "traditional" reef set up on the shallow side with lots of open space for asthetics and then a sloping rock wall along the drop off to represent the edge of a natural reef dropping off into the open sea. Could maybe even have dimmer lighting over the deep end to enhance the effect even more.

I like your thinking...
Gunna need lots of adhesive to keep it all good and sturdy!

Wow Mike! Looking good buddy. I thought that you were saying that you have water in it already? Pictures don't refect that yet...?

How's the new pump... show up yet?

Just noticed that you picked up a reef keeper lite... did you find that used? If I end up shutting down I'll also have modules, probes, switches and such that I could seperate from my Reef Keeper Elite package for you if you like. Or you could buy the whole package and sell the lite!! lol

Salt2Death 09-26-2012 03:02 PM

Johnny that's too bad- you have one of the most beautiful setups I had ever seen!

Nice looking build! Looks like you rubbed a few people the wrong way making comments about "fake" drop offs. I think the box in a box is a much safer design, I'm not sure I would trust that stress point in my house! I will happily watch your thread though! Hehe. Your pipes are noisy because of your drain design. Dual drains for Herbie overflow would be dead silent. I have Herbies one 3 tanks now, won't do it any other way.
