After a little late night shopping I scored some magician paly's. I was dumb and only bought a frag of them but I am thinking of going back for the colony on Monday. Here are some pictures from lastnight after about 30min in the tank.

After a trip to Home Depot lastnight I tried the Oatey Fix-it stick. I am not too happy with the product. I does the job for some of the basic stuff but I tired to mount some pieces horizontal and it wouldnt stick to the plugs too well. I think they are too smooth where as the D-D epoxy worked really well. I guess I could have used superglue as well but I didnt have any.
It also hardens really fast (1 or 2 minutes after mixing) so that kinda surprised me. The D-D stuff takes a little longer to dry so you can mix a bunch then break it off as you need it. The downside it stays soft so you have to make sure you have stuff really planted in there. For the $8/tube it costed me it was a good product but I think I will stick with the D-D for the extra $4. Oh I used 2/3s of a tub and my skimmer didnt go too crazy. It did get a little more wet but it wasnt too bad. |
Ryan, your pictures are amazing! what an outstanding tank! congrats on all the hard work and the great looking tank!

I am a little behind, been a little busy around here the past few days. A few days ago I switched some LR around and ditched the island. I moved it into the back to continue the wall. I think I want to continue brining rock forward on the right side to make a cove there. Keep the rock low with maybe a little point near the front.
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0020.jpg Mike finally made his way over here yesterday and was impressed on how the tank was looking so that was happy to hear him say that. I fed Fauna Marin tonight and snapped some photos plus Top downs. Let me know what you guys think! Thanks alot. I got rid of half my stock when I did the move because they didnt make the cut. I gotta thank Greg (Coral Master) for alot of this stuff too. Alot of it came from him. |
Well after a 300km road trip that ended us in Lethbridge (long story) I found some new stuff locally for the tank. Crappy iPhone4 pictures for now, sorry guys.
First up is a Hot Pink Mille that Mike and I went in on. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/528ce709.jpg Next up is a sweet blue Porcelain crab I found at TFI. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/8b5d0bde.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/6d404bea.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...h_6a895182.jpg |
After finally making it to Medicine hat I found a few more additions to the tank.
Some cool red with green flake Blastomuss wellsi. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0095.jpg Also picked up 2 new 3/4" flare nozzles for my returns. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...ld/photo-7.jpg Today when I went out to get some food for the reptiles I pcked up another pail of Instant Ocean and scored a pretty good deal on some Hermits. I will probably regret this adding these guys but everything is secured down so I hope they dont knock too much around. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...IMG_0103-1.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...IMG_0104-1.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...IMG_0105-1.jpg |
that porcelain crab is awesome!
Great photos, i likes seeing the feeding response of the FM stuff |
I am a big fan of blue and when I seen this guy I had to have him.
The FM is great but I am going to need to pick up more from Greg here soon. Thanks for the post! |
The Good Friday was a perfect day for a trip to Calgary! Day off work and the stores loaded with good stuff.
I got some new additions to the tank and I am pretty excited about. I think these are Dispar Anthias but I am still not sure. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/2e095a54.jpg I also need to send a shout out to Levi for letting us check out his tank before the big tear down. Thanks again for the frag Levi! http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/21d3f181.jpg I found these guys hiding in my rocks. Totally forgot about them! Red People Eaters. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/157b8d87.jpg |
I got some better pictures of the Anthias today. They are getting more and more brave.
Still havent gotten them to eat so hopefully they come around in the next couple days.... or I have to resort to the dreaded frozen foods. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...IMG_0113-1.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0120.jpg Also a shot of my Japanese Fruit Loops Zoanthids http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0122.jpg The Lovelli is starting to take off as well. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...IMG_0124-1.jpg |

A little bit of an update here with some growth shots.
We went to Calgary yesterday and even though it wasnt a fish trip I still managed to make a couple stops. I was happy to see Gold's had one more of the Dispar Anthias so I picked it up. I also found 2 really nice little Porcelain Crabs there, man I love these little guys. I also found out today the new Anthias is a Male and both have been flaring at each other all morning. No real intimidation yet or fighting so I hope they get alone. This puts me at 2 male and 2 females but I am thinking maybe another 2 girls would really light up this tank. The original 3 have started eating the New Era Marine Flake and Prime Reef Flake like crazy now, the larger male even tries to take down NLS pellets. The Start of a Dispar School http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0226.jpg Porcelain Crab #1 http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0203.jpg Porcelain #2 http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0222.jpg The FTS http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0210.jpg |
The Pokerstar Monti is really starting to take off and encrust.
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0235.jpg Here it is on This Monti Cap is just starting to go, it has encrusted the old dead skeleton and is starting to plate out. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0237.jpg Here it is April 9th http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0049.jpg The Orange Digi has started to branch out on the top and really starting to encrust. It looks like its putting out a bunch of new nubs as well. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0249.jpg Here it is March 20th http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0104.jpg I didnt think the Stylo had done anything yet but its starting to encrust really good now and has put some growth on its nubs. This is such an amazing piece when it hits colony size. I cannot wait. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0262.jpg Here it is April 9th http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0048.jpg |
Lots of high end coral in there buddy, tanks looking pretty awesome!
Nice red planet frag... *Cough* I hate you *Cough* haha |
Thanks Buddy!!
I got your frag of those ugly brown zoanthids you wanted so bad set aside for ya. We'll have to get in touch next time im in town. |
I grabbed some photos today before the lights came on and finally got some older pictures off the camera.
So I will start with my porcelain Crabs. These guys have set up shop on the left side for good now I think. The bigger red one hangs out higher up on the rock under the Meteor Shower Cyphastrea with the smaller more purple female hiding more on the back side of the rock down near the bottom. I just love these 2. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0288.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0285.jpg Belly Shot of the little female up front one morning http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0281.jpg These pictures were taken without the lights on, indirect sunlight on a cloudy day. Sorry about them being so dark. Sunset Montipora http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0297.jpg Unknown Purple Acro. Check out the new growth tips up top!! http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0298.jpg ORA Red this gem is taking over the super glue finally http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0299.jpg A. Lovelli http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0303.jpg Tri-color A. austera http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0302.jpg Stylo http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0304.jpg With the anthias I am feeding fairly heavy (5 - 6 times per day) and only doing vodka (1ml/day). I am really happy with the results right now. I would like to add some Bartlett's Anthias in the near future. |
Tank looks great Ryan. Love the Anthias and the corals are sweet too.
|
Thanks Leah, the Anthias are my favorite fish in there right now. The males are flaring at each other and all the females right now so its making for a very active tank. I've been trying to get pictures but they are so food oriented that they run right to the front corner expecting to be fed everytime they see me.
Woo another little update. This Maxi-Jet with Sureflow kit is really starting to make me mad. The suction cups just arent wanting to stick to the glass and it seems some days the pump really chatters. I am looking forward to the day I can afford a 3X MP10W ES upgrade or a 3x Tunze 6055 upgrade. I did a water change yesterday and did some tests while I was at it. It appears the corals have been growing because my ALk was down to 8dkH and the calcium was 195.... oops. Usually I like to run it about 10-12 dkh and the calcium about 425. So I added a bunch of baked baking soda and Calcium Chloride to the water change, I will make the rest up over the next couple days. I also moved some stuff around. The Hot Pink Mille is starting to grow and is aiming right for my Cali Tort so the tort got banished to the back where it can have lots of room. The Purple with White Polyp acro got moved as well to a more central location in the tank. I am going to see how it colors up here in the middle then maybe secure it permanently. I woke up one morning to find the Red Planet on the sand so I moved it as well. It didnt go far just around the rock a little more so it wouldnt interfere with my purple/blue tabling acro. The Super Grape Mille got moved as well closer to the light. It should have plenty of room to spread out now! This is such a nice piece when its full size. I also moved a little rock around on the right side and had 1 piece left over so I started to make the last little arm to complete the cove. So far I like it but I am thinking of going a little farther up. Its mostly zoanthids and Palys right now which is okay with me. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0341.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0331.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0335.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0336.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0338.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0343.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0344.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0345.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0348.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0351.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0355.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0356.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0356.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0357.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0358.jpg |
Woke up sunday morning and found this. The little Porcelain crab shed the old house for a new one.
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/35c89e57.jpg |
End of the Month update with bad news. Yesterday I awoke to 2 dead bodies in the tank. I lost the sickly little Dispar Anthias and my big male. All day I couldnt find the other 2 that were supposed to be left and now today still no sign. I think they are dead in the rocks as well. I did a water change on friday otherwise nothing was changed. All 4 were doing so well and eating like pigs. The little guy never really bulked up and had a sore so I thought maybe he was a goner but I never expected the other 3 to go too.
Now I need to find something to replace them with. I dont want to get Dispars again or Evansii anthias. I would like to find a nice schooling fish that are always in the open to add some movement. I am thinking maybe a 2M 3F school of flasher wrasses but I defiantly want to stay away from your common stuff like chromis. What do you guys think I should get? I picked up a nice little plate coral this month as well. Nice orange with some light green flecks throughout. I think once I add the Royal Blue LED's this coral is really going to pop. Now for some pictures. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0403.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0406.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0408.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0409.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0411.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0413.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0414.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0419.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0425.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0426.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0431.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0438.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0437.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0439.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0440.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0442.jpg |

UPDATE!!!
I guess its time for an update! I recently moved into a new place and thought I was going to have to downsize. Recently we found a place for the big tank and I got down to getting it reassembled before the mrs. changes her mind.
Things have been sitting in a holding tank without a light (infront of a window) and no skimmer so most of the SPS has lost color. You guys wont be seeing pictures of those though! Also added a bunch of new fish, funny how when you have an empty big tank you cant find any fish that appeal to you but the second you have limited space you start finding fish everywhere. So far the stocking list 2 clowns, Blue Assessor, one Neon Goby, one McCoskers Wrasse, and the new guys are a couple Bangaii Cardinals. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0670.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0675.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0698.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0692.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0694.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0696.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0700.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0702.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0705.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0715.jpg |

Giant Cinnamon Palys at a store that rarley has anything hard to find. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0707.jpg |
That's great news Ryan. I'm happy for you that you are able to keep the tank.
I'm just going to start my build thread (finally). Happy New Year :drinking: |
Hey Ryan is that an engineer goby? If so, did you only put only one in? Just curious. They are pretty cool fish but I have read a few things saying they are better in pairs or groups. Is your's tunneling/building stuff solo?
|
Thats a Blue Neon Goby.
The last thing I want is an 18" engineer goby mining under my rock work..... or a school of them! |
Oops. I thought the maximum size for the engineer goby was listed as 1". After reading your post I checked again and it was actually listed as 1'. I guess I won't be getting an engineer goby.
|
Ive seen them come in at 2". If they stayed this size they would be a great fish to have in the tank. But at adult size Engineer gobies can topple rocks that arent placed right on the bottom.

More pictures!!
I also added a new Wrasse. Turns out to be a Cebu Pylei Wrasse so that was a great score! Ryan your tank is looking stellar man , lots of new stuff too, hows the wrasse doing are you thinking of getting some more of them,
|
Thanks. Its definatly coming around but im not happy with the colors or coral health yet. Im sure its just a matter of time before everything settles in.
The wrasse has some stress spots on him as its only been 2 days in the tank. So far I really like him but I have read they can get fairly boisterous with the tank mates. Though I do still want to add a couple female mcCoskers, and a pair of Rhomboids. I would like this tank to have quiet a few flasher & Fairy Wrasses. |
Wow, everything is looking great.
Flasher and Fairy Wrasses are a great choice. How are your Tunzes working out for you after you sold the Vortechs? |
Finally starting to see some color coming back to my sps. I have lost the Coral Master Super Grape Mille this week. Luckly I know where there is another if I decide to replace it.
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0815.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0818.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0819.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0821.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0818.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0824.jpg |
Here is a new acro I picked up today locally.
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0825.jpg And my Blue Assessor http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0839.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...d/IMG_0845.jpg |
Nice work on bringing some color back... real bummer about the super grape tho! Greg was over the other day and let me know that what I thought was a super grape (only after the transfer has it gotten enough light and gained some colour) is in fact NOT his super grape
