i'll let you know when I know something, I'm in the group so when I look at our next date, I'll message you.

That all sounds really great! Actually, the main reason I don't have a marine tank yet is price. Maybe now I'll actually be able to afford something. Not like I have a job yet, at my age. :)

It'll be nice to meet you all, if this works out.

Good on ya' reefwars!

Thanks, and will do. :)

Just gotta sort out my 25g FW first. Freakin' velvet.

As for reading, I don't know what's left! Been on aquarium forums for nearly two years now. Canreef is a new one though. I've read most of the important articles for getting started by now, at least. When I am ready, I'll probably need to talk to you about plumbing and lighting though. Just can't seem to comprehend it from reading alone. Anyways, enough about me... :blah:

Oh, and look at the time. Ought to go to bed. Cheers, and again, good luck with this business of yours, for all of us Newfie's sake.

hippo! 02-16-2011 08:17 PM

Welcome mate!!!

Yahoo, more peeps from the rock and soon we can have a frag sawp n meet

reefwars 02-19-2011 02:09 AM

spread the word , canreef is a great site to organize stuff and keep in touch with fellow reefers so if you have friends wth tanks get them to sign up, the more of us that get together the better the hobby will get for us all here on the rock:):) communication is the key if we are all isolated reefers then we will pay isolation prices and isolated service;)

glad to see alot of new members here :):)

OK, I just posted a blog for the St. John's Reef Club on blogspot with address nlreefers.blogspot.com so go check it out and help me with the site design - I've never done this before and I think it shows. I'm having a few issues there but it's a start! Let's help grw it into a community portal where we can share info and post updates on group activities, group buys, etc. I'll maintain it as actively as I can and try to post on it regularly.

welcome katie to canreef:):) very friendly site:) can you give us a sneak peak as to what you have running????:):) pics are always nice too!! cheers:)

Katie3G 02-22-2011 04:32 AM

I have a 55 gal and a 10 gal. Having had some problems with ich, the tanks are fish fallow. I do, however, have some soft corals in both tanks and some SPS in the 55. The softies include a green toadstool, Fiji Gold leather, kenya tree, cauliflower (not sure on the exact species), zoanthids, mushrooms, some nicely coloured ricordia florida and a sympodium. The LPS include torch, green frogspawn, blasto merleti, fox and candy cane.

hey thats sweet sorry to hear about the ich , but it sounds like you got it under control.are you running a sump and skimmer??

Katie3G 02-22-2011 04:56 AM

No sump. I have a skimmer on the 55. The 55 has 4 54 watt T5 bulbs, canister filter and one powerhead (I am about to get another powerhead). The 10 has power compact lighting and a hang on filter.

well i just finished putting the tank together yesterday and i will be doing the overflow here asap......finished product will be a zoanthid dominated cube havent thought on livestock yet ive always been one to keep it down to a minimum so i would guess a pair of clowns more then likely cinnamon clowns and a pair of bangai cardinals maybe a mandarin if i can make it to the 1 year mark;)

im going to be setting up some frag tanks as well will be mostly zoas and lps so theres some plans in the works to be had here soon;) theres a new reef club in the city it just started and i will be going wed evening plus it seems alot of new people are joing this site from here so thats always good too:):)

Yeah, it's great to see people from Newfoundland on here and I hope we get to see more from them. Just a reminder to all that we now have a reef club (meeting this Wednesday at the Newfoundland Hotel at 7 PM in the bar!) and a reef club blog at nlreefers.blogspot.com so join up, send us some pics of your tank(s) and I'll put them up with everyone else's (just mine currently, haha). Great to see more involvement from the Rock!

Katie3G 02-22-2011 01:13 PM

Reefwars, a tank of zoa's sounds very nice. I love the brightly coloured zoa's. Unforuntately they seem difficult to obtain. Where are you planning on getting your zoa's?

I don't have any photos of my tanks yet. Perhaps in the near future - but no promises.

def wont be getting them here lol as ive noticed maybe 3-4 different kinds so that wont fly lol so as luck would have it i know some people and will be getting them shipped to me....the beauty of zoas are they are hardy shippers for the most part, and alot of times are just shipped in wet newspaper;)i wil be buying colonys and fragging them to smaller pieces and im going to try and stay with the theme of affodable zoas thas going around out west as i honestly hate the high pricing of things and know for a fact it can be alot cheaper.....alot of the stores are putting a very very high mark up on their livestock....makes me sad and a little mad;)

hippo! 02-22-2011 08:45 PM

Anybody have any idea of what happened to them, by the way? They had a great store and then they just disappeared. Did they just move or are they our of business?

hippo! 02-22-2011 11:34 PM

store closed down but they are still around

did have a nice shop though, loved the display.

nlreefguy 02-23-2011 01:23 AM

Yeah, they had one of the nicest tanks I've ever seen, bar none. Lots of interesting fish and corals always in stock - best store in town, really. Too bad they had to close, small market I guess.

Another Newfoundlander here; originally from Central, living in Mount Pearl now. Met up with Katie, NLreefguy, Reefwars and a few others earlier this week and was told everyone was on here, so here I am. New to Canreef but I've been on Reef Central for a few years.

Reefwars: your signature is hilarious (Less so to my girlfriend however).
