Ok here is the stand that I build this afternoon , it was 17C out what a great day to get building
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...4/DSC05704.jpg
Get the outer frame of the stand
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...4/DSC05705.jpg
used all 2x4's and that is a better way to build cheaper and easier ..this stand will hold a tank. PARDON THE BUND!!!!!!!!

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...4/DSC05710.jpg
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...4/DSC05717.jpg
I think it will hold 2400lbs:idea:http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...4/DSC05711.jpg
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...4/DSC05715.jpg
GOTTA Half a taste test to see if its REAL...
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...4/DSC05707.jpg
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...4/DSC05708.jpg
This is where its going on that wall. I'm thinking of how big of a cabnet on the left 12 " its just going to be for the ballasts and maybe some food and odds and ends and the Vortech's 40 and the new 60 once i get some other stuff..

how wide would you make it the one on the right will be 36 " i was looking at either 12 -24" is what i can put there.

How the HELL were you able to build that in the garage and maneuver it into the house?! Amazing!

That stand certainly has my stamp of approval looks strong as heck Mike.

And I really didn't wanna see you gnawing on wood ya know?

Wow, it looks like you could park a battle tank on that thing. Wait.. Have you already tried? I'd like to see pics of that!

PS. Why are you always eating your gear?

reefermadness 11-08-2010 03:17 AM

Never saw anybody so exited over a skimmer.....must be why your the king!(of skimmers)

SmallFry 11-08-2010 03:54 AM

Looks pretty darned solid to me, those 2x4s will take loads of weight when they're under compression (seriously, you should see what we balance on a pair of them regularly). Assuming you were going to have sumps in underneath you might want to sheet in the back so any splashes/water vapour don't get to your drywall, although you're probably ahead of me there. That would also have the side effect of stiffening the uprights so they can't bend over sideways but that's probably unlikely anyway.

2400 lbs sounds like a beast, but the all up weight of the tank is a bit misleading, yes your tank will be heavy, but it's spread over a larger area than most, so I wouldn't be surprised if the load per square foot isn't that far from that of a much smaller tank. As long as you maintain the spacing in the supports, stands should be scalable..

As for the biting thing, as long as it's not treated lumber..

Skimmerking 11-09-2010 12:32 AM

Well got home and I would tackle the tower its going to be 36" long 24wide and 78"high
it will house the sump and Skimmer Can't tell ya what one  its a Secret. the Kalk Stirrer KR3020 Barr's, and the refugium for the mangroves and other goodies
there will be a few shelfs for the skimmer to sit on its going to be External too.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...4/DSC05724.jpg

This is looking down from the tower still have to build a few braces...

Lance 11-09-2010 12:39 AM

Looking good Mike.
Will you be able to situate the new skimmer over the sump somehow to prevent a leak or flood? Have you decided yet how you're going to finish the stand and tower.

Jason McK 11-09-2010 12:44 AM

Look'n good Mike. keep the pics coming

Yes Lance the stand will be skinned with maple plywood. and then stained to match a type of doors that i will buy at Home depot. all the doors will be on magnets so no hinges.

Now the canopy will have either light rack that will go up i think. or have the doors that will fold up and then fold again Haven't figured that one out. I leave for ST Jean QUE for a course for 3 weeks so I can think on what i will do.

Skimmerking 11-09-2010 03:15 AM

COUGH COUGH COUGH, what the heck is that doing in my Thread.

Lance 12-06-2010 04:20 AM

Nice looking tank Mike.
You do realize that you are going to have to buy a whole lot more fish and corals to give that Bad-Ass skimmer a decent workout. Twin Eheim 1262's. That thing will suck the poo right out the poor fishies.

PoonTang 12-06-2010 04:22 AM

freezetyle 12-11-2010 01:35 AM

thats going to look pretty slick once its all together. And that skimmer probably holds more water then a few of those nano tanks kicking around!

Skimmerking 12-22-2010 12:27 AM

Well long over due been away in Florida trying to soak up the sun , But that didn't happen:cry:. Oh Well back home to work on the stand and tank.

received my second order of ECO REEFER ROCK. WOW.

finally got around to using some Tie straps to make some cool stuff I guess tell me what you think. And after looking at it I see a dragon or a SEA Monster in the left side so cool.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...4/DSC06220.jpg
Still need to work on this one I may make a tower ,but I may not any idea's

The Grizz 12-22-2010 12:31 AM

Ok I have to ask.......... your overflow is sooooooo small and I need to know why and how well do you think it will work. I am not bashing the design as everyone has different ideas.

Skimmerking 12-22-2010 03:21 AM

Its OK Grizz no worries I like them that way then I get way more area to have for the fishies. I used it on my last tank that is currently running the 150 and its has been going great for 2 years. less is good in a long tank/ and it worked the best with the design that i built

The Grizz 12-22-2010 04:25 AM

Well it is definitely different and can't wait to see it running. When you get it flowing you should do a small video to show how it works.

globaldesigns 12-22-2010 05:46 AM

I love the rockwork, defying gravity with the leaning tower of Rock. Very very cool.
