To answer the question as to why i am taking the census, I am counting the amount of people in BC who have aquariums more for my own knowledge because I truly have no idea. I understand that keeping a saltwater system can be stressful but the idea I am going on is proof that the sights and sounds of an aquarium especially saltwater can be very calming. Once again thank you for the input so far and please keep it coming.

Langley.

There's lots of people in BC not on here, like ska said. There's 10+ marine stores that all must be making profit. Most people on here are probably into their tanks for 1-10+ thousand dollars, it'd cost a lot more than that to keep most of these stores going. Not to mention all the people like me that buy used stuff. Good luck with the tally though, try asking a big store like JL or King ed's how many people they see a year? not sure if that would help, but might be more accurate.

Not sure about the stress thing either it definately has its days, between the aiptasia, cyano, hair algae, or when purchasing new equipment (especially on-line or over the phone). I'm just a novice at this hobby but everytime I've managed to solve these situations as they arise sure is gratifying, and the fact that I have haven't lost any fish since the tank first cycled over a year ago, thats cool too. I would have to say that this hobby reduces stress roughly 90% of the time and thats definately worth it!

Vernon. My tank causes more stress than it relieves, it is a constant battle to keep the parameters in check.

You need a larger tank sump and a ATO makes life nice and easy so you can sit and enjoy life a bit.

I have an ATO. I am running full strength kalk in my top up water and still have to dose alk daily. I have no hard corals and no idea what is using my alk. I have posted this in several forums and received no advice that worked.

If you have any advice please pm me, I could use the help.

Agassiz 180gall/40gall sump/35gall refug. We have just had a baby girl and watching the tank settles her down and in my opinion I think that her watching the fish swim around is good for her head control development.

As for lowering stress there are couple of articles you may also find published in magazine or newspaper. Some research shows lowered stress, or if in an work office, better effeciency (duno how to spell if wrong) also related to better handling stress I guess.

Personally, I wouldn't call it so much as stress reducing but I can sit infront of my tank and watch the fish playing for 30+ mins...so within that period of time I am not really thinking anything...just phasing out I guess...so no stress gained for at least 30 min...lol.

Port Moody. Stopped monitoring stress level after $7000.
Honestly though it will only lower your stress IF IT IS NOT YOUR TANK.
So perhaps you can consider that in your paper.
