muck 06-29-2010 03:00 PM

You sure you want to go there Laurie... you might end up with a body full of ink... you know... "Just one more..." :twised:

trinac 06-29-2010 03:31 PM

ooh I'd love a half sleeve of a reef with fish!! I already have a half sleeve though and am not getting another one, too diesel for me. Maybe body side or leg though would be good!!

A great spot for a flag tattoo is shoulder blade.

For the ladies, always keep in mind what the tattoo will look like with a dress on... So consider coloring and placement of your tattoo. (my half sleeve is flowers so its good with a dress)

And, Lucky Strike in Edmonton is a fantastic place for tattoos. They do more art pieces than pick something from the wall and tattoo it on, but you'll be sure to get great work done there on whatever you choose to do. All the folks there have portfolio's for you to browse through as well so you can be sure they do a good job. I looked around for quite a while before I decided where I wanted to go... its rather permanent!

Because my tattoo is on the larger side for a girl, a lot of people ask me if I regret it. And the answer is no way! I don't take life THAT seriously, its only skin! Oh, and a lot of people ask me this: what about when you are 70 and have a half sleeve? I personally think I'll have more things to worry about then, or less perhaps, but I am pretty sure I still won't care, plus I'll be a badass old lady. haha

Anyways, think about it well! I think tattoo's are great and I love them, but not something to rush into immediately. It will be a great memory for you always, a piece of art, and a tribute to whatever you choose or not. Some people get tattoos of pizza cause they like pizza.

I believe the pain of having one done will be enough to not get "one more"

Trinac Thanks for the advice, and location suggestion

A friend of mine's tattoo artist offered to give him a free tattoo if he let him tattoo a supposatron on him. A robot inserting a suppository into his backside. I can see if he will extend the deal to you?

So two years ago the idea of getting a tattoo has suck with me. More specifically the idea below I've been wanting.

So two months ago I was at a friends wedding and her sister-in-law had an amazing tattoo on her leg
http://www.joannatwood.com/g38.html

I asked her who did it and where was it done, and found out Jo ann Atwood from Urge II Tattoo did it. Went to her website and liked her work so I checked out the shop and met with her (2 months ago) and my appointment is tomorrow!!!!!OMG!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the drawing she did, I asked her to change the bottom of the leaf stripe so that it has a bottom to it.

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...t/C6443CDF.jpg

I also want her to change the back (front side) fin so it is smaller (more proportionate to the smaller front fin in front) and erase the line over the back bottom fin by the tail. I haven't had a chance to tell her about the last 2 changes I want to make (I've been sick and I lost my voice and was busy) but hopefully if I go in a bit early it won't be to hard to make the changes before we start, they seem like easy fixes.

On my upper left arm, still can't believe I'm getting it done

cale262 10-08-2012 05:36 PM

That's funny, I was in Urge a few weeks ago getting some work done and Jo was putting a fish on someone else in the chair next to me...

Enjoy.

noirsphynx 10-08-2012 06:44 PM

OMG, that's awesome Laurie! I'm jealous, I want a tattoo. Can't wait to see the finished work!

I've wanted a tattoo for a very long time now, always wanted a maple leaf or Canadian flag or something like that. Two years ago when this thread was started and the clownfish idea was said I've really wanted it done. Now I'm in disbelief that tomorrow it's actually going to happen!!!!!!! Must admit I'm freaked out about how much it's going to hurt  It's not a huge tattoo so I should have no problem sucking it up and getting it all done in one sitting, I figure it should be around 3hrs worth of work, at $150 an hour I hope it's not much more then that! Here's hoping I can withstand the pain and get it done!!!!!

That's just a guess not sure how long it'll actually take. We haven't sized it out yet, she said we'd do that tomorrow. I figure about 3-4 inches long, 2" wide? Not sure exactly.

Aquattro 10-08-2012 09:33 PM

Ok, I just see a lot of artists over quote time for new people.

Here's a fish with a fair amount of detail and color (before the sun:)) and it took just under 2 hours.

I think they do that because they don't know how well you are going to sit... My last piece on my calf was quoted initially at 4 hrs (6x6") for the black, it only took Rich at Urge about 50 minutes with no breaks while in the same time period, another customer two chairs over from me took about 3 smoke breaks...the clock doesn't stop if you want to call a time out.

Just get a good night sleep, put a good meal down range (stay away from coffee or milk products if you're feeling nervous) a couple hours before and you'll do fine

...and don't forget the pics.

Nano 10-08-2012 10:18 PM

Yea it won't be 3 hours its small and your arm isn't bad for it. Maybe 1.5 hours to 2

1.5 to 2 would be way better  here's hoping. She actually never said how long it would take (I never asked either) just guessed 3 based on what friends said their tattoos took. I'm getting excited but scared as hell as well  I will post pics of it after it's done.

dreef 10-09-2012 03:44 AM

Don't be afraid..don't worry if it's going to hurt,or how much it's going to hurt.My 15 year old blessing of a daughter got a start on her first a few weeks ago.I'm fairly heavily tattooed on both my arms..and talked to her about it a few times before the day. She's an angel, always at home every night, not running around the streets at night like others her own age.I kept telling her..your not going to die, your not going to bleed to death...and don't cry.I took time off for the event as i wasn't missing it for nothing. It's big and i think you should have a plan right from the start..not like me,here and there..go big or go home. She toughed it out..5 needle outline, and a bit of black shading, the colors going in,in a few weeks. And not one tear :) ribs are hardcore !! and the last flower is close to the groin, made me shudder..

dreef that's cool, I'm surprised that she was able to get it done. Most tattoo places have signs in them that say must be "18 or older to get tattooed no exceptions".

My biggest fear is getting started (like having one line drawn) and deciding screw this it's not worth the pain and wanting to stop  However I figure I have $100 deposit invested already, so it is motivation to go through with it

Odd... I've got 40ish hours worth of work done and I don't remember ever being asked if I regret it. Maybe it's because I'm a guy?

HA! Good luck with that. The pain isn't that bad, especially where you're putting it, and they are addicting! Put the clown in a spot that's easy to turn into a sleeve... pre-planning!!

Good luck with the session... you'll be fine.

I really wish EVERYBODY would stop saying this. I want my ribs done... but I'm getting more and more scared by the day.

Next appointment is on the 27th... probably chicken out and stick to a sleeve. lol

Thanks and funny you should say that as my tattoo artist mentioned the possibility of adding an anemone to it later

Well, there are some areas on the arm that hurt more than the ribs :) Do a sleeve and you'll find them -lol

I don't think I've ever seen that happen :) Sure, it's uncomfortable in some spots, but not that bad that you'd stop. The arm is pretty easy too, in most spots..

I've already got a half sleeve, and some forearm work... I can handle that stuff. Ribs scare me. When he got around the side of my back towards the ribs.... YIKES!!!

I know a guy that had the outline done on his ribs and called it quits... hurt too much. Upper arm will be no problem though. Feet and ribs are the ones that are suppose to suck the worst, but everybody is different. The inside of my upper arm/bicep didn't bother me at all and some people can't take it in there.

Maybe funnier in ecard form?

Coralgurl 10-09-2012 04:31 PM

Good luck with your tattoo today Laurie! I got mine a number of years ago and I just remember it felt like being scratched repeatedly in the same spot for a period of time. My artist was great and if he noticed it bothering me, would stop for a few minutes.

if the pain gets too much, just pinch your leg.

it'll distract your brain from the pain on your arm. true story
