Lance 12-05-2010 05:22 AM

Nice looking Trigger.

Dez 12-05-2010 05:55 AM

What a beaut. It's pictures like these that sometimes made me wish I had a bigger tank. But then I think about the extra cost associated with bigger and I quickly become satisfied again. Thanks for sharing and letting me live vicariously through you for a split second.

Ryanst 12-05-2010 03:51 PM

I will try and get some better pictures when my water is clearer. I wasnt expecting him to be so big but he is pretty sweet. I went to feed him a silverside with my tongs and he took the whole thing and ate it in like a second and those are big silversides. lol

Ryanst 03-25-2011 10:11 PM

wow its been a long time since I posted anything on my tank Journal. Well I have been battling bryopsis for awhile now and it doesnt seem like its getting much better. So since bryopsis is a low phosphate algae I have decided to us rowaphos even though I am using zeovit. I have had my magnesium at around 1500 ppm for a couple months now which I think slowed down the growth I am currently increasing the magnesium to 1600 and see how that goes in conjunction with the rowaphos. I will try and take a couple pictures tonight or tomorrow and post them for an update.

Ryanst 04-03-2011 01:45 AM

Just posting an update on my tank. The bryopsis is pretty much gone and my sps are starting to color back up and have been growing like crazy over the last month. Everything seems to be going good.

Yeah he likes the camera he is always in front of it. He usually scares away the smaller fish that I am trying to take pictures of which is kindof annoying. Lol

Delphinus 12-18-2011 07:22 AM

Looks great!

What did you change to get the bryopsis under control?

Well I kind of did a lot of things at once which isn't the best thing to do. lol
At first I started bringing my magnesium up to like 1500 which slowed down the growth. Then I got a big tub of rowaphos even though my phosphate tested at basically zero I ran about half a litre in a reactor changing it out monthly. I started using kent tech-m magnesium supplement to bring my water change waters magnesium up to 1500 1600ppm I probably went through like 6 of the 64 oz bottles. I took out around 70 pounds of the live rock that was covered in bryopsis dried it out and put it in storage. I was doing 30 gallon water changes weekly from the beginning of the Bryopsis outbreak during every water change i slowly pulled it off the rocks using the suction tube and my thumb. If a rock got really bad and I could pull it out of my tank I would take it out and scrub all the bryopsis off it then rinse it with tank water. I also switched from zeovit to vertex biopellets.

fishoholic 12-18-2011 04:58 PM

Looks great I like the three rock towers. I agree the trigger is a camera hog

RedCoralEdmonton 12-18-2011 06:31 PM

Ryanst 12-30-2011 08:53 PM

I decided to start vodka dosing here is a pick of how its going.lol
http://i969.photobucket.com/albums/a.../vodkadose.jpg
Seriously though I am going to dilute it so I can use my doser instead of daily dosing. I will keep you updated on the progress good or bad.

MarkoD 12-30-2011 09:03 PM

Haha its just what I had I will probably buy cheaper stuff when I make my next batch of vodka and water. lol But it kind of does make sense Better vodka for me = better for my tank right? lol

MarkoD 12-30-2011 09:30 PM

I hear fish love the taste of armadale
it makes them sing

MarkoD 01-03-2012 07:14 PM

I posted in another thread but it appeared here

Ryanst 02-06-2012 10:57 PM

The vodka dosing is going good I was dosing 1ml a day for the last couple weeks but now I am going to go to 1.5ml a day its hard for me to follow the dosing instructions because my tank tests 0 nitrates and 0 phosphates, I am running biopellets but I am still getting some nuisance algae growth. The sps is really starting to grow well and continues get more colorful everyday.

Here is a picture of my new fixture I got from lastnight now both sides of my tank look the same. lol

It does take some tweaking with the frequency to get the best wave in my tank it is around a second on then off for a second.

Ryanst 02-22-2012 03:59 PM

Ok I will try that I just set it up on quick pulse and didn't really read the manual much on how to change the length of the pulses.
