Little white bugs are generally good (and normal)

littleboyblue16 10-23-2003 12:12 AM

so they are a good thing? ok good, got kinda worried their, becuase i heard of these little bugs that people have proble with, and i thought that was them, like i woke up this morning and it look like they were little bubbles all over the glass, but it was them, weird haha, its really weird, i tested my water, everything is to par, but todally scared of putting a fish in haha, but i got 2 snails haha

Hello,
I can't remember if you bought lights or not. If you still have only the one powerglow, than you can only have mushrooms and maybe some small leathers. Until you upgrade your lighting buying corals would be a waste of money.

I agree with Quinn's recommendations for lighting.

I looked at bringing in the fixtures you were looking at, but as they are not CSA approved I decided against it. The states have many lighting supplier options but the Canadian market is too small for them to justify the paperwork and changes to meet our electrical safety standards.

I am currently reviewing various equipment lines. DT's Phytoplankton, G2 and Bullet skimmers from Precision Marine are the latest additions. Within 2 weeks we will also carry their Calcium reactors as well.

littleboyblue16 if I can offer any advice based on my months in the hobby, it would be to read, read, read, and read some more. It looks like you are very interested in this fantastic pasttime, and you cannot go wrong if you take the time to learn about it. I think the more one knows about the hobby, the more they will enjoy it. I spent a fair bit of time reading up and asking questions before I bought any livestock, and I don't regret it.

littleboyblue16 10-25-2003 03:31 AM

hey james no i never bought those lights

Teevee i know alot i been reading almost every book i could get my hands on, and still reading i been reading for like 7 months, and you still learn things and you should know that

actualy I have never heard anyone say that.. what I have heard is they do fine with out one so if you don't have a tank that is ready for a anemon don't get one.

Steve

Steves right. Anemones are a bit difficult and clowns are fine without a host. Sounds like you are doing the right thing by reading, keep it up!

I find books can be outdated quickly so sites like Canreef and Reefcentral are really handy sources for good information, straight from hobbiests.

Welcome Littleboyblue!!
Hey I have a little powercompact from my 20 nano that I'm really not using...if you would like to have it you can. You can also have as many feather dusters as you would like  I can probably round up a small powerhead if you can use one of those too.
Love to see young people enthused about this hobby. If your interested you can email me. I'm on the south end, just outside the city limits.
Lynn

i find books very outdated too, but it still a good read if your a reader like me, i also join alot of places like canreef i think i am on five and i acully most lurk on most of them.

Chicki, i e-mailed you :)

It's great that you're doing so much research - much better than the average uninformed customer that sets up a tank and in 3 weeks has a BTA or LTA in there under fluorescent lights.

Seeing as your tank is only a 20, it will be subject to more fluctuations in water quality, temp, etc... harder to find its groove, stability-wise. I have a 20 with a baby BTA now in there now, and it is more challenging than my other tank, and more work...

My ocellaris clowns did great for almost a year without any anemone - they liked soft corals, and especially LPS (Hammer, Forgspawn, etc). Anemone not necessary, but I'm glad to have got one after almost a year and a half.

littleboyblue16 11-04-2003 07:14 PM

i know about the problems with nanos, but really i am moving in a year and i didnt need the hassle of moving like a 77gal fishtank it would of not been fun haha, i think i am just goint to get some small things like mushrooms or something like that, i knoticed alot of pylops in the tank growing, i tryed to take a picture of them once, but for some reson the pictures always came up blurry so i have no idea,
lots of stuff is growing big time, i just need to get some snails i am having my big algea fun haha and the hermits are not doing their job

littleboyblue16 11-08-2003 05:56 AM

Well, one of my clowns died! got some fugas on him, but see i get a new one from work anyways becuase my boss said so becuase all the ones at work died of some fugas, so i think it was the same thing they got, but one is still alive so its all good, and i ordered a firefish goby so hehe can't wait, i can't find any of my hermit crabs i think they died, or they are just hiding who knows :S

Quinn 11-08-2003 06:01 AM

Perhaps Amyloodiniumiasis. Read through http://www.wetwebmedia.com/amylloodiniumart.htm and links. Bev recently did battle with it, unfortunately without a great deal of success. Careful with the firefish if you have an open top, some talk in the past of them being jumpers.

littleboyblue16 11-08-2003 11:45 PM

Teevee, thanks for the read, i will read asap....

i am getting a top for him, but other then it being open its not to open, i think theirs like alittle space, but nothing for him to fit in...
alright another battle hehe
