cprowlerHey guys,

I don't know if I can make it or not since my work has no schedule at all, I was going to wait and most likely find out a few days before. Since it looks like we might need the people I might be able to book it off, I'll call Monday and find out.

That's too bad Jason, would changing it to the 28th help?

Would that still work for you Greg? and everyone else?
The 27 works better for me but I wouldn't cancel if it was changed to the 28.

JHC 03-14-2010 06:44 AM

How much for a crabbing license and where do you get one?

Hi James,

Starting to look that way. The Sea Dragon is going to look into getting us to a crabbing site as the last dive.

Just wondering if the Sea Dragon has tanks, weights and weight belts? Those are the only things i need.

If they don't where is everybody getting this equipment from? Pricing?

Thanks!

I've never booked a tour or dives through a dive shop that couldn't supply those items.

Are we still on for the 27th? I need to book my flights.

Haloreef 03-16-2010 06:46 PM

group dive

I would rather do a shore dive, at least for this first group dive, so people can get to know each other and their experiance levels. We have lots of dive sites to choose from. The nem. gardens at Whyte cliff park for one. With the weather around here this time of year a charter may end up being cancelled. Greg seems to be coming a long way just to do this dive it would suck if it was a no go!
Just my 2 cents.
In the summer when the weather is better maybe we could charter a dive boat for a week end up at Powell River.
We did that a few years back and it still ranks a one of my favorite dives. Cold or warm water!
Keith

Hi James,

They don't rent out but have affiliated stores that they work with. You are in Vancouver, there should be a bunch locally around you.

Silly question but you are certified, yes?

Thanks,

Paul

Good call Keith.

Shore dive is good for me also; people can save the $99 charter for frags instead

So it's confirmed for March 27 and shore diving. Location TBD as we will have a couple options for the day.

Certified crazy, yes. :-)

Anyway $99 was a bit too expensive considering it's only 2 dives and you have to get your own tanks and weights.

I'm interested in the shore dive. Will have to wait till next to confirm if i can make it.

Anyway one more question. Where can i get a crab license and how much does it cost? Also is there a specific type of license i should be getting?

James

Gooly001 03-17-2010 01:04 AM

Hey James,

I buy my license at Walmart. A one day license is only $5.00. You might be able to get it at Canadian Tire as well. Should be any where tackle is sold I would imagine.

So are you in?

The diving people around here do like to brag that Powell River is the diving capital of canada

I'll go with whatever everbody wants to do. That said in my experience I generally prefer boat dives because you can get to better sites and to me it's not just about saving a couple of bucks. I am not familiar with the area so I'll trust you guys know what you're talking about. Now who is volunteering to slug all my equipment down to the shore?

JHC 03-18-2010 01:47 AM

I'm more than likely in. Will know for sure next week.

You can get a saltwater license online!

That's how you stay warm Greg; you haul 80 pounds of gear down 45 degree decline for 3 miles so that by the time you get down to the shore you are sweating up a storm in the wet suit. You'll need to cool yourself off in the ocean. LOL. just J/K about the 3 mile trek downhill although it sure feels like that with all the gear.

Keith was right in doing shore dive, we will have varying levels of experience in the group and this way it will be a lot safer for everyone.

Cheers,

Paul

So.... how many skinny dippers are confirmed Paul?

cprowler 03-20-2010 12:32 AM

It turns out I can't book the 27th off but their is still a chance I will have it off anyway, I'll know Friday.

Since I have this weekend off I'm taking advantage and I am going to try Seadragon out.

Their is a chance I'll have next weekend off also and be able go for a shore dive too but just in case I am making sure I get wet!

cprowler 03-21-2010 04:57 PM

We'll if yesterday is any indication the vis should be good, it was around 50 ft or so. Got some half decent pics for once.

It was a killer day, now I'm way stoked to go again next weekend!

Snappy 03-22-2010 05:22 AM

Sorry I have to cancel

I've had some stuff come up and now won't be able to make the trip. It is actually probably for the best as I was having a hard time justifying the cost of nearly $500 (what a rip-off) in flights with WestJet for one day of diving. Hell I can pretty much fly to Mexico for that and if I did that I'd at least spend the week and get a tan. Anyway I am very disappointed but life goes on. Have a great time guys. Maybe I can catch the next one. Thanks for offering to put me up Paul, hopefully I can take a rain check.

Gooly001 03-22-2010 09:10 PM

Hi Bill,

Did you find out if you could come out and join us. Sounded like you had an awsome time last weekend. Can't wait for our turn.

I won't know for sure till Friday afternoon.

I worked the last 4 or 5 weekends so when I new I had the past weekend off I knew I better take advantage of it. Having said that I may get the next 2 or 3 weekends off, I just never know.
