Sounds like you should get yourself a few good SW/reefkeeping books and do your homework before jumping in.
|
sounds like you could be a little more helpful mr max
|
I do agree with MMAX it is always best to do a bit of research online as people have so many different opinions. And with so many questions you will get several difference answers. I have about 1/2 dozen books and about 50 bookmarked sites on all sorts of issues and have only had SW for less then a yr.

If you want you and I could get together out at my place and discuss what plan's you are thinking about. I live 10 min's east of Balckfalds. This might help a bit. PM me, I will send my # if you are interested.

lets just keep it to can reef for now. good news though i ot some live rock, not enough though just 28 pounds, currently going through the curing process. and i got a skimmer, sea clone 100, i was wondering just how much water turbulence i would need, i have 2 powerheads, and 2 aquaclears, 70 and 110, not running any media in them though cause of the whole trapping of the debris and whatnot.
thoughts? |
Hi claymax, Sorry but you may want to rethink using the seaclone. If you google it you will see the are considered a bit of a joke, hence their nickname of seaclown. When you are more fully set up with a quarantine tank and such you may be able to use it on a small tank, but not very efficient on most tanks. Don't feel bad, alot of people have made this mistake, I did 5 years ago. I use it now on my 30 gallon quarantine and it struggles on that. Keep your eyes on the board and you can find awesome deals, I did on a great euroreef. As for flow, it all depends on what you will eventually keep for corals, anwhere from 10 times tank turnover to way way more. The worst is to have dead zones of flow.
|
I have a SeaClone on my 65 hex pred tank in the sump and it does not bad, they work best on tanks with a small bio load or as Seafan said small QT. The Marine Apprentice has my other one on his nano tank and it is kicking ass, they are very finicky and need constant adjustment and cleaning.
What are you planning with the Aqua Clears? Main filtration? If you are not going with a sump then I would suggest using a Rena XP2 or XP3 canister filter for main filtration loaded with Carbon and PhosSorb and ceramic cube's. Hey SEAFAN nice to see you on hear again neighbor, are you still in the same place |
Hey Grizz, you betcha we're still neighbors. I see that build of yours has come together beautifully. I've noticed you've picked up some really nice pieces lately, let us know when you might want to part with a few, or have some frags up for sale  Just buggin, congrats on your tank!
|
for grizz
the aqua clears are just being used for flow right now, im looking for some higher end equipment like you suggested
|
hey guys, do you NEED VHO to grow sps corals or will others do? ive been doing some reading and it was giving me that impression
|
T5 HO or Metal Halide or a combo of both it what I have seen on a lot of the amazing tanks that I have seen so far.
I have a few things that I will not be using anymore in the way of canister filter's, UV sterilizer's and a sump if you are interested. |
ya a canister filter would be awesome, what kind is it?
|
I have a Rena XP2 with Rena Smart heater, just need new hose to custom fit to any tank (Home Depot) and a Fluval 305 (complete). Both need new media and are only about 8 months old but only used for about 6 months.
|
which one do you recommend for my 72?
PM me for price details |
PM on the way
|
are uv sterilizers a must? or can you just watch your bio-load and how much you feed. or is green water a common issue
|
I had an algea bloom when i first started my 65, put in a 9w uv. It helped to reduce and control it. You will get many opinions on this issue, I will always have one on hand just in case just my 2 cents.

good to know.

I recently purchased a 220 gallon tank and I'm wanting help/advice on setting up filtration like sumps or canisters. Anyway any help you can offer would be great :)

Hi all,
New to this particular forum, but not to this area or fish. Been out of the game for a few years...last time I was around there only seemed to be 4 or so of us in the area. It'll be good to have some contacts that are local. |

Hi all, Im new here but I've been lurking for a little while. The girlfriend and I live in Blackfalds and currently have the FW tank count down to 5 running right now. I have been slowly researching and buying parts for a 30-50 gallon SW setup for when we move into red deer in the coming months. This site so far has been very helpful and hope to learn much more!
