I have a 155 BF that could use a little more rock. lol
NICE tank Carmen might look for one like this next for my Lion Fish and Eel. Maybe only 75 - 100 gal though.. |
Carmen,
 I am in awe of your aquascaping abilities. Any plans on adding more fish? Oh the joy of temptation  |
Thanks guys.
Finally clear today. Was going to run an ammonia and nitrates test to see if I was getting much of a cycle but I realized I have all of my test kits at my Mom's. May run into Red Coral since it's just up the road tomorrow to check it out. Looks good so far, plenty of snails and stars crawling around. Hope to go pick up the additional rock pieces from My 72G in another day or 2 depending on the nitrates. Then I can finish up the aquascaping. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...setup001-1.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...setup006-1.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...setup004-1.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...setup002-2.jpg |
Are you going bare bottom with this tank? or just waiting to add sand?

Its gonna be sexy! I love the dual over flows with the gap in the middle. It would be perfect for a frag wall, or a number of other cool applications. If I had a tank like yours I'd put my caps in the middle. Any thoughts on what you'll do with that space?

I think it's kinda a neat little spot too! Not sure what exactly I will do but thought it could showcase a nice piece. Have abit of a pedestal type formation in there now. Time will tell as to what ends up in there! |
Tested nitrates and they are at zero.
So I picked up a couple pieces of rock from the 72G to finish up aquascaping. Wasn't quite as easy to steal from the 72 as I thought since it's pretty jam packed with coral so moving stuff around is tough! Just grabbed 2 rocks that I wanted and may be one or 2 others that I can change around later once the transfer happens. Had to take a few corals back too since I just have no room to keep them in the 72G. Nothing that is too demanding just some big easy corals, taking up space. Corals actually acclimated really well. So the aquascape for now consists of 2 formations. One with a small "tunnel" through for swimming/hiding or the shrimp cleaning station like in the 72G! I wanted to leave a clear area through the center so you got a feeling for the true depth of the tank. Ofcourse not 100% happy but am going with the basic structure anyway. Small rocks ontop will likely be exchanged for coral pieces. Also started adding sand today. Will take me a couple days to add the sand since I just haven't had a whole lot of time. So gonna be looking at a cloudy tank for awhile... http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...setup007-1.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...setup006-2.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...setup005-2.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...m/setup008.jpg Sump plans not exactly worked out just yet and skimmer on back order... Thinking about setting up a temporary sump in the meantime. |
Looking good Carmen, do you want to come up to Red Deer and set my rocks to, sounds like you have more patience then I do, lol. Going to start mine tomorrow, hope it looks HALF as good as yours.
|
Looking great Carmen! look forward to seeing it once the sand settles.
|
Sand settled, finally relatively clear. Sand was cleaned and reused and was still a little smelly even after extensive cleaning. Nitrates up to 5-10 but not bad considering.
Hard to get a good picture of the aquascape but whatever. It will look completely different covered in coral anyway. Excuse the cords and extra powerheads. Need to buy some new powerheads eventually. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...um/sand001.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...um/sand005.jpg |
Looks great with the sand bed.
|
Well, started messing around with the aquascaping again since I wasn't really loving the right rock wall and wanted to have more space infront. Created a V wall instead with a direct path down the center to the back wall. Really LOVE it because it creates much more depth!
Tank is abit cloudy so I will take pics tomorrow! Starting to hate maintaining 2 tanks 20 minutes apart. The 72 has started to show some high nitrates (40!)..ugh! Combination of messing around rocks, removing some rocks(biological filter), skimmer not skimming properly, and Mom being a little too generous on the feedings. Brought it down a touch with a WC and fixed the skimmer. CUT the fedings too. Hopefully it settles down! 144G is doing well. Starting to see the ugly diatom bloom already. Plumbing and sump still on hold. |
Right on Carmen glad things are coming along. Can't wait for the new pic's
|
New Aquascape. Hard to capture in a pic but the wall actually sticks out a fair ways to make the tank look deep!
http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...uascape015.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...uascape013.jpg Loved how the GSP flouresced under actinics - give me a break all I have to look at is GSP, Mushrooms and Rock! http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...uascape006.jpg |
the tank is looking great yet again there Kido. Well done too on the tank the half circles are hard to scape up unless you use pillers and make the rock suspend.
makes me want one and a cube too .ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:neutral: too many choices... starting to get sick of the 5 footer and want to change it its actually i want to change the rock my the tank..... |
Thanks Mike. Ya the nature of the hobby...never content! Right!
|
LOVE ! the aquascaping. Great job .

Much better as far as the rockscape is concerned. I love the look of multiple towers of rock, it adds so much depth in the tank. Some nice Gorgonians would looks stunning in there.
|
Agree with everyone here...rocks look much better now. That valley will be cool if the fish speed through there.
And quit your complaining =) All I have to look at is rock and chaetoBall. |
and answer honestly....how many hours a day do you spend staring at the rock??!!lol (we're all guilty)
|
 Kinda embarrassing that we stare into an empty tank of rock searching for anything that moves! I know when I started the hobby my husband thought I was a lunatic searching a tank at night with lights out and a little flashlight! I am a FISHGEEK!:redface:
|
My rock all started dead so I think it's even more embarrassing how I like to stare into the display looking for a few little bugs. I get excited when I find the odd one on the rocks...the glass is covered.

And a little something new in the tank...I added a pair of Blue Gudgeons tonight. They are very shy so far and haven't ventured out of their little hidey hole but exciting nonetheless. |
Well looks like we will be ready to roll...sump is coming tomorrow and new skimmer arrived! THANKS KEVIN!
Skimmer is huge - wow! Kinda intimidating! I never really thought of this tank as a large system but this skimmer looks incredible! Can't wait to get it going! http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...bum/qqq001.jpg Also the new Gudgeons finally ventured out. I thought they were goners because they did not come out of hiding until yesterday! Looking good and eating well today though. These were my tester fish. Cute little guys! http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...bum/qqq007.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...bum/qqq014.jpg Transferred a few more pieces of coral to the 144G. They are all looking happy. Having a nasty green hair algae bloom! Going to pick up some clean up crew this weekend. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...bum/qqq008.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...bum/qqq005.jpg |
UPDATE.....!!
Well, I got my sump - whohoo! And Doug (fishytime) came over and drilled the sump and plumbed it all up. DOUG you are THE BEST! ETERNALLY GRATEFUL! Small leak all fixed up and all looking Great! Plumbing is a little wonky with the PS4 external pump, and lack of space but it works. Was a little short on salt water, had to make another 30G, so should have it fully operational tomorrow. Excited to fire up the HUGE skimmer and see it all run! Hope to pick up the livestock this week so all my fishies are home for Christmas...! (What can I say, I miss them!) Pictures tomorrow... |
Almost got it all done! Looking better and better...

Pictures through bent glass really do no justice to the tank....looks waaaaaaaaaaaay better in person*mutters to himself quietly* "still think it could use that bridge" |
A poor workmen always blames his tools. This thread is know officially KINKY!

Leave it to reefkeepers to let "kinky plumbing" mean a bad thing. :p
