I think your tank would look way better inside that Ikea mirror! :)

Zoaelite 11-03-2009 04:50 AM

Concrete wall behind there

Delphinus 11-03-2009 05:21 AM

Get chiselin' :)

Dude I don't know how you were sleeping at night with that stand. Yowzers.

Dez 11-03-2009 05:22 AM

I have that same mirror and I took the mirror out and that frames my tank, I was just joking. You Will have way more viewing angles with your tank right where it is :)

Zoaelite 11-03-2009 05:27 AM

Ahah that's to funny it has to be the exact mirror!

Ya Tony that and the water level on the frag tank (Due to an un-level concrete floor beneath) has caused splashing and paint damage. Need to get this all done fast so I can stop stressin.

kien 11-03-2009 06:15 AM

didn't someone (mrfish?) bust down a wall and make a room for his new tank? ;-)

lastlight 11-03-2009 06:21 AM

When I built my sump tanks I waited 2 days and added water. I thought it would be fine as well but I later realized some parts were still sticky and left black on my fingers after touching. One tank ended up leaking on me and I think it was because I filled too soon.

FYI the silicone was black Perennator AQ 201.

I'd wait if it were me. Colby told me to wait longer than that still If I'm remembering correctly.

Colby told me a week which worked fine for me but now I might wait, how big was the tank lastlight? Don't know which silicone they used but its a transparent white.

I have lyretail anthias as well as a squareback in different tanks mind you. They are
my favorite fish, they have been easy and add some nice color.

Thanks, I will be adding some anthias down the road would you recommend the lyre tails, queens or square backs?

So I just realized I did the stupidest thing in the world. The tank is polished and has beautiful beveled edges but instead of putting anything under it I just set it on the stand. Just learned that's a big no no, apparently you can crack your tank REALLY easy by doing this so to anyone setting up a tank make sure you put plywood followed by a layer of foam down on top of your stand. Will grab new photos when I swap it over.

Here is an excellent article on anthias and keeping themby Scott Michael on anthias
http://www.reefs.org/library/talklog...chterm=anthias

He does not recommend the purple queen.
My own experience and the experience of a few reefers concerning the lyre tail is poor.
I put them in as a shoal and one by one they just disappear.
Same thing happened when I tried again and I won't try them again.

Zoaelite 11-04-2009 02:07 AM

That's what I have always heard about Anthias, I'm going to wait for the 170 to establish before I even think of adding a tricky shoal like that.

Zoaelite 11-04-2009 05:18 PM

Updated with some photos on the front page. Added the Styrofoam/ plywood board under the tank.

Leah 11-04-2009 05:37 PM

Have you decided how long you will wait before you fill it? Looks great by the way!

Built

Okay, I lied and decided to do the transfer last night when I had hired help. Between me and my room mate it took from 5pm until 3am in the morning but everything is swapped out. I was a little apprehensive as the tank was only built a week ago but everything went right to plan and all of the seals look 100%. Best part about it was when I was emptying my sump I found my long lost lawnmower blenny who had been missing for about a month now.

Will grab new photos when I re-aqua scape everything but here is a few intermediate steps

Its crazy what you find when you do a tank tare down, in all I found 3 completely rusted razor blades and this:

Is it alive or has it passed on?

JDigital 11-05-2009 06:47 PM

Gorgeous house! or at least tv/tank room..

lastlight 11-05-2009 06:52 PM

Wow those are some crazy long legs on that guy! Yeah love the recessed details in your threatre-room ceiling. Nice touch!

How do you plan on skinning your stand? Perhaps I missed that bit.

Nope he's 100% alive and kicking, cleaning the tank as I write this.

Going to go the easy route and use black cloth/ velcro for now.

Zoaelite 11-06-2009 12:25 AM

These photos are still a little merky with a basic aqua scape done (I already know that it will be changed shortly ). Fish seem to love it, really funny to see fish that have been staring at each other through the glass for a year finally meet.

No humidity issues with all that water?

kien 11-06-2009 02:14 AM

your fish are going to love watching movies from there :-)

Zoaelite 11-06-2009 02:19 AM

Had a de-humidifier installed for the whole house about the time I installed by 54G so we should be good to go, and I think I will enjoy watching movies there even more .

Tank looks great! Will we see more pictures today? Have you had a chance to reaquascape yet? Also wondering if you will change your fixture or is it new too?

Wow, ZoaElite nice setup!

I could tell Elite/Colby's work anywhere... As you know, I don't like the guy... but will give him Kudo's when deserved... And I can say Colby knows how to build tanks... He built mine.

Great Job, I look forward to seeing more pic's

karazy 11-08-2009 03:50 AM

i agree the tank turned out pretty darn good. jay is especially good when it comes to clean silicone, eh? and the CNC work that jay does is just great. im always glad that we have Jay.

how is that pyroferus tang doing so far?

Zoaelite 11-08-2009 08:22 PM

Thanks guys, yes I very pleased with Jay's work every tank I seem to get from him tends to be a little masterpiece ! The pyro is doing great, was eating out of my hand already! Also added a yellow and a powder brown and will be adding a yellow corris wrasse to complete the tank for now. I understand now why everyone is going for 6 foot tanks these tangs are better than cable TV .

Zoa Cove looks awesome!

Leah 11-09-2009 12:27 PM

I will be honest I keep looking at your pictures over and over again! I am in love with your tank. I thought I would never like a non bow or wave but this really has me thinking.
I am in awe of this one. Love your new additions, how is everyone behaving?
