Oh well.

Must say the Canucks were a different team last night. Like Cherry said, they have been at home to long. Just need to get away and go out together for a couple of pops.

Yup the lay off didn't help. I was in Yaletown (area of the city) during that break and Mattias Ohlund was sitting outside Starbucks in the sun just relaxing with his bike. Not that it's a bad thing but right in the middle of the playoffs mid afternoon, not exactly normal for the guys to be just chillin'.

They really have been home for way too long. Needed to get out of the city and focus on hockey. All the pressure is on the young Hawks now. Going to be interesting to see how they can respond. So far they have been outscored 6-1 in first periods this series.

Doug 05-08-2009 02:11 PM

Well that sucks. Great game for 57.5 min. then loose it. Hope they can recover from that loss.

On another note. Yay Detroit. :D

Lance 05-08-2009 06:16 PM

Grrrrrrrrr! :bad-word: Well, that really sucked!
Back to Vancouver for a best-of-three.

Grrrrrr because why would you try to win 1-0??? Playing with fire!

Doesn't matter how good you are defensively, mistakes happen and a one goal lead is never enough. The problem with loosing a one goal lead like that is that you also loose all momentum and have to completely regroup.

Not a good game when Hordichuk is the only goal scorer...

Yup, you're absolutely right. I hate when they stay back like that and try to protect a one goal lead. They were doing fine until they went into their defensive mode. The big guns definitely didn't show up last night.

No they played a 1-2-2 or even a 1-1-3 all third period and you just can't really do that with a one goal lead against a team like the Hawks. If Luongo hadn't stood on his head, it would have been 4-1. They needed to come out flying in the third and score an early goal. To see the Sedins one man in on the forecheck and not even deep in the corners was sad. Since when does Kesler not forecheck??? They played the system I think every Canuck fan in Vancouver hates.

Oh well...we'll take it in 6!

By the way, I am so envious of this Hawks team though! They are going to be so incredible in a few years! I am very jealous of this team. Hate to say it now during the playoffs but I would trade the teams in an even trade in a heartbeat. Just not until the playoffs are done ;) For now we need to teach them that tough lesson that is going to make them a better team in the future.

Hope one day the Canucks learn how to draft and rebuild properly. It would be so nice to have a team like that...costing nothing, young superstars, bright future...instead of a bunch of UFA's in the next two years. I think after next year though, the Canucks will start in that direction. Got a few young stars on the way up and hopefully a hot young goalie. He is suppose to be a bit of a Luongo clone so that could be good.

GO CANUCKS GO!!!!

Predictions for tonight?

I say 4-1 Nucks

One empty net goal...

Have to be!!!!

Well Kesler said after the other nights loss that they feel they have only played well in one game and are lucky to be tied 2-2 in the series...so...gotta figure they are due for a great home game tonight!

I really do think the winner of tonight will win the series. I doubt either of these teams would win 2 in a row after this game.

Lance 05-09-2009 11:17 PM

Canucks 3-1 tonight. Chicago takes game 6 and Vancouver in game 7. Then bring on the Wings/Ducks!

Where are the Sedins :yield:

:noidea:

Piscez 05-10-2009 03:21 PM

Arrrgh! How many stupid penalties are we gonna take? And it's seems everytime we take a penalty one of the nucks also breaks a stick and they score! I think that's happened like 3 times now!!!!!!!! :( :bad-word:

Oh well I guess we are going to have to take them in 7, instead of 5, this should have been all over by now

my2rotties 05-12-2009 03:33 AM

OMG!!! I can hardly stand to watch now... I really wanted them to win:sad:

Squiddy 05-12-2009 03:37 AM

There's still time

Trigger Man 05-12-2009 03:39 AM

I think they ran out of time

my2rotties 05-12-2009 03:41 AM

It was so brutal to watch... I wanted someone to end the misery...

Trigger Man 05-12-2009 03:43 AM

And then there were no Canadian teams left, maybe we do need a 7th Canadian team to be brought in.

heyfredyourhat 05-12-2009 03:51 AM

Bring back the Jets.

my2rotties 05-12-2009 03:54 AM

I think we need way more... there are so many American teams... I am so sad. I might hang out with Chicago. I have been watching them wipe out my hopes of a Canadian winner. I know they are good and really fast.

If someone would have told me Luongo would let in 7 goals in a deciding playoff game I'd have laughed his ass right out of town. Unbelievable!

Johnny Reefer 05-12-2009 04:37 AM

Question: Will a Canadian team ever win the Stanley Cup in the remainder of your lifetime? 16 years, and counting. I'm really getting sick of it.

Go Wings. Detroit is closest.

my2rotties 05-12-2009 04:52 AM

I like how you think:wink:

Doug 05-12-2009 01:19 PM

Agreed. Bring back the Jets. :D

Out shot by 40 shots. Enough said. See my previous post. And ya, I know one of them scored a goal last night. Whoop-dee-do. Just no offense. Always been their problem when it counted and still is. What they need is a couple of mobile defense to help the decent fowards they already have and to give Luongo some darn breathing room.

Johnny Reefer 05-12-2009 02:47 PM

Actually, one of them scored two goals....and got third star.

The TV analysts had been harping about how superb the referee-ing had been this series. Not so last night, IMO. The Kesler? interference call....well, the Blackhawk skated into him. Bad call. And there could have been a few more goalie interference calls too. In particular, when Bufflin (spelt how it sounds) tried taking off Lou's head with his lumber. A few crappy bounces, too. The Toews goal off of Edler's? skate. The crappy bounce behind the net, right on to Kane's stick for his second goal. And Kane's insurance goal, well that was a thing of beauty that Lou really had no chance on. I mean...he's following the shooter...what else is he supposed to do. Kane caught him by going the other way. If Lou can be faulted at all, I'd say it was the two (or three?) goals he let in glove side. His glove was weak last night. But then, where was the defense on some of those, too? Blackhawk allowed to waltz right in. Ohlund's pathetic check at the blueline. All in all, I think they played okay. Down 3-1 and fought back to take the lead. It's a tough one. A mix. They played well enough to win, but a mix of some lapses and bad bounces/breaks leads to tee time.

muck 05-12-2009 03:03 PM

YESSSSSSSSS!!!
Sorry all you Van Fans but with the Oil not even in the picture this year I would love to see da 'Hawks and all their young talent make it far.
Plus my sister-in-law in Chilliwack sent my son a Canucks shirt for his birthday the other week. :nono:

Oh and the Sedins annoy me. So glad they don't play in E-Town...besides we already have Horcoff.

xtreme 05-12-2009 03:07 PM

^ I agree. Couldn't be happier to see them out now.

Doug 05-13-2009 12:13 AM

Just because your two teams suck guys, does not mean you should take pleasure when the last team remaining goes out..

Canuckgod420 05-13-2009 01:34 AM

typical oilers and flames fans.....cant do nothing but watch your players golf and make snide comments about teams who did make the playoffs, dont forget to mention your previous(more than 20 years now) stanley cups.

Treebeard 05-13-2009 02:05 AM

Yup, that's us. Refresh my memory....how many cups do the nucks have?

GreenSpottedPuffer 05-13-2009 06:05 AM

FWIW, both cities (Van and Calgary) have one cup. But what I don't understand is why Oilers fans are always able to refrain from living in the past even though they had dynasty teams and many Stanley Cups but Flames fans always have to go back and live in 1989??? Rare to hear the Oil throw their 5 cups in other teams face and even rarer to hear Habs fans back up loosing with "...yeah but we have 24 Stanley cups what about you?" LOL.

The Canucks didn't even come close to deserving to win this series and the best team by far won. I just hope we can finally rebuild!

Many free agents, let them go! Start young. Build a team around Hodgson, Kesler, Burrows, Edler, Bieksa and a few of the veterans like Mitchell and maybe the Sedins if they take a discount to stay (pretty sure they are gone though). Trade Luongo (to the East hopefully) for a YOUNG star forward (few of the Lightening kids come to mind) now if you can because otherwise he's probably gone for nothing after next season. Oh yeah, and new coach! the nucks were really out coached big time. Laviolette comes to mind.

Well, yes, Vancouver does have one cup. The Millionaires. 1915. Heck, even Victoria has one. The Cougars. 1925. The question asked was how many have the (Ca)nucks won. The answer to which all Albertans know is zero.

Perhaps because one is just slightly better than none, whereas with Edmonton having 5, there is less of a comparison.

Gotta disagree on trading Luongo. At least, not yet. Remember Cloutier? I think they should hang on to Lou.

What frustrates me is they seem to struggle year after year to build a legitimate "Okay, this a definite cup contender team. This is the team to beat." '82?...okay...kind of a fluke. '94?...came so close. A few years ago? Wasn't that a 105 point regular season? What happened? This year? This young Blackhawk team comes out of nowhere and becomes a better team so quickly. How'd they do that? The draft?

But I digress, as I have not followed the game closely enough in recent years to know, or even pretend to know, what the answers are. I suppose, too, that patience is a virtue. Apparently, some "in the know" picked the Canucks to not even make the playoffs this year. Just, that patience is running thin and I, as I'm sure others, are not getting any younger. I'm beginning to understand what it feels like to be a Cubs fan. I used to go to Canuck games as a kid in the early years of the 70s. Cheap seats in the nosebleeds with tickets from the Royal Bank. I'd like to see them win the damn thing at least once in my lifetime. And yes, I know that the Hawks have not won the cup since '61. Good luck to them.

Rbacchiega 05-13-2009 07:31 AM

I just cant believe that you used the word digress when talking about hockey. You win

Canuckgod420 05-13-2009 12:13 PM

Well I guess having won 5 cups is worth mentioning for an oilers fan....I'm sure it makes them feel better to think that when they are watchng 16 other teams make the playoffs!!!
At least over the last 20 years the nucks have made the playoffs on a consistant basis....It would be great to win the cup for sure.

If I where a flames fan I would be embarrased to have my team only win 3 series since they won the cup...whats even more funny is the fact that they won all 3 in the same year....lol

Doug 05-13-2009 01:26 PM

:violin:

Dont get to carried away guys. Mine was meant as a joke but I have seen these threads get goofy. Plus I can remember the great Boston/ Montreal rivals and where I was always on the receiving end being a Bruins fan. Darn near ended in fights several times.

Dont want to :closed_2:.......

On another note , Glad the Bruins made it to game 7. What a cheap shot sucker punch though and of course Campell does dick. Great job bud.....NOT.

Cant believe the Ducks took the Wings down last night either. Home they win at home, although not totally against Ducks moving on. Good bunch of Canadian boys and would be a good series with the Hawks.

I like Hawks versus Ducks

and

Bruins versus Capitals

with a Hawks/ Capitals finals......:D

Rbacchiega 05-13-2009 04:50 PM

:morning:

+1 to the Hawks/Capitals cup final....that'd be a great series
