Alright I will have to give them a try next time I am down. I looked around at the shops but everyone seemed to be out of bulbs ( I only stopped at 2 stores).
The one I have is an Ati Blue+ it says on the bulb. So not an actinic+. |
Well a little update, our Skunk clown died. He got sucked into the Maxi-Jat 900 intake and I wasnt sure how long he was in there for. I pulled him out and he was walking on the bottom but when I went back 15 minutes later he was back in the intake dead. I will replace him but not until the big tank.
Speaking of big tank planning has been put into effect. We have decided 48Lx30Wx24H. We werent planning on going that high but we have decided on a Vortech MP-40 for a wave effect. Lighting we still are not sure about still undecided between 250W MH or 12 T-5's We want clams and easy to keep SPS this is why we have decided on so much light. Here is the tank that inspired the new build. Its tmantaylor18's tank on RC http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...9/P1030156.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...9/P1030167.jpg We have decided to go a little longer than that tank but am keeping the same depth. Actually be be 100% honest we are throwing around the idea of going 36" deep instead of 30". I really like the deeper tanks over the more narrow ones. Well here are some pictures that were taken tonight. As always the clownfish was easy to photograph but the flame was a little leary and the wrasse isnt too bad when the Flam isnt chasing him around. Poor little guy. 6 Line Wrasse http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3355.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3359.jpg Hammer Coral Frag http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3313.jpg New Sprouts http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3370.jpg Fish and Inverts http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3363.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3357.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3333.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3318.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3361.jpg Full Tank Shot http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3349.jpg Unknown Anemone that just showed up http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3300.jpg |
fyi get rid of those pure actinic's and change the out for a 22k bulbs (GE aqua blue plus, blue +, aqua science blue) and you can keep easier SPS. the output of a pure actinic is only half of most 22k bulbs.
i know i have said it before and i know you like the blue, it just won't be as purple but still blue Your fixture can keep SPS |
Ya I have decided to swap out the Actinic and Fiji's for 2 10000K daylights and a Blue+. I am already running a Blue+ in there. I will grab them once I move to Lethbridge in a week.

I love that guys' tank on RC... His aquascaping has given me some ideas for my big tank, as we are almost the same dimensions...
Your tank is looking good! Definitely agree about the lighting though. |
Yes he tank so so nice. Our plan is to build the rock up around the overflow like he has and then out from there make it really open. Almost like the edge of a reef head. The openess and depth is what really caught our eye.

So time for an update. We have moved from Grande Prairie so all the fish and live rock are in a Tote. They are all doing really well and seem to like the extra room.
We got rid of the 6line wrasse because he was picking on the Firefish so bad we hadnt seen it in a week and the 6Line wrasse was taking a beating from our Flame Angel. So he went to a good home where hopfully he can live a peacful life. I also got 2 frags from Pazil (great meeting ya) one a Zoa and a GSP which both have opened this morning. The GSP frag got glued into a interesting piece of LR and will be a "GSP Island" in any tank I got. The Zoa frag found a hole to sit on on the same rock as my button polyps and it looks really happy. While I was meeting up with a bunch of Canreef members I slipped into Gold's where I picked up a Zoa rock with a single mushroom on it. The mushroom was fully opened all day today but none of the zoa's were at the start of the day. By the end about half the rock had opened up so hopfully the other half will open up in the next couple days. Before Calgary we stopped in at Aquarium illusions to check out what they had. As usual I couldnt leave without spending some money. Shaun hooked me up with a Bangaii Cardinal and 2 Black Percs. The Black Perc are my favourite, one is about an inch long and solid black with white stripes while the other guy is about 1/2 inch long with a little orange around his mouth but he is pitch black as well. I was worried the little guy would be a 2 course meal for my female Ocellaris clown but she swam up to it in a big huff and decided a fish that small wasnt worth the effort. Tiny, as we call him, cruises around with every fish in the tank other than the Bangaii. Sorry guys the last couple days have been spent un packing and putting stuff into storage. I will try to snap pictures tomorrow. Oh and I tried to find a 10000K bulb but noone here in town had any T5HO only the regular T5 or they were 6700 or 14000K. So I am going to keep my eye open. |
Okay as promised I got pictures. I did get started until this evening due to a family birthday but I got the stand built and the tank about half full of water and salt. Its got a Koralia 2 and a heater in there to keep the temp up.
I will top the other half the tank up with water from the tub in the morning and do a small water change. Then in the evening I will move everything over. The specs on the stand is 36" tall and the tank is 24" tall with a foot print of 20" square. The plan will be to eventually turn this tank into a Seahorse tank for my girlfriend. Now for a question. As recommended I went on a hunt for a 10000K bulb but couldn't find one. I did however find a white actinic with a colour of 10000K. Will this due or do I need a full spectrum daylight 10000K? Here is a height comparison, I am 6 feet tall. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3418.jpg First bucket of water http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3410.jpg Mixing the Saltwater http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3412.jpg Starting to Clear http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3415.jpg Here are some pics of the Bangaii from the tote http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3408.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3407.jpg Here are some older pics from when everything was in the tank http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3398.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3395.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3387.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3373.jpg I cant wait to get this new tank up and going. |
Wow Ryan I love the tank, In the picture with the cardinal is that frogspawn?
Can't wait for more picture's too! |
Wow, you moved all the way down to Lethbridge. So when I saw you was that when you were moving down?
The tank looks awesome and will make a great horse tank when you do convert it. Can't wait to see it stocked. That little Bangaii is cute, can't wait to get mine. |

In addition to the cardinal I walked out with 2 of the Black Percs as well. I got a solid black one and that little itty bitty half incher that was in there. Both of them are doing great. |
Got everyone moved in today and picked up a new Blue Rhodactis Mushroom, well I didnt my girlfriend did.
Also found a crab in the rock looks like an Emerald but I am not sure if it is. I havent added rock in a month and there hasnt been any damage to fish or corals so I am hoping he will be ok. Sorry no picture. Adding Live Rock http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3419.jpg The happy Trio. I have forgotten how friendly clowns are. The make a mad sprint to the front of the tank anytime we walk by. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3427.jpg Bangaii Cardinal http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3447.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3439.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3443.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3440.jpg It needs a little more live rock but here is the Full Tank Shot http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...n/100_3449.jpg |
Well I have experienced our first loss in the tank. My Flame Angel died lastnight. By the looks of it he jammed himself in the rack for the night and couldnt get out. I thought it was odd when he didnt come out to feed and wasnt swimming around when the lights turned on.
We are sad to see him go he was getting very pretty and developing some nice streamers off his dorsal and caudal fins. We are planning on another but probably wont put another Flame in for a while. |
Sorry for your loss bud. Are the other fish doing ok?

Yes they are all doing ok even my 1/2" clown is doing good. The Bangaii is fighting with his reflection make for some really good photo opportunities. The Zoa's are open but not all the way. Its almost like they are keeping their tenticles in I am wondering if I have too much flow. I have 2 Koralia2 going in each upper corner at the back pointing to opposite bottom corners at the front. My Hammer is out not fully extended like it usually is but its looking healthy and the tenticles are rippling a little. I am thinking the zoa's need a little more time. |
