Hahaha ya the ground plug was broken off on the other end too.... I guess thats just the way i roll. :twised:

Anyone else have any light suggestions?

DanG 07-22-2008 03:34 PM

have you looked at T5's? They would cover the whole length of the tank with no spotlight look and you'd easily be able to get 4 across the tank. Plus there would be no heat issues.

LeeR 07-22-2008 11:45 PM

already have 2 24' tek t5 fixture but it takes up the hole top of the tank and i wont be able to look top down.... that is what i will be running temp unless i can find a way to still look down into my tank.

karazy 07-22-2008 11:59 PM

could you like hang them?

LeeR 07-24-2008 12:05 AM

thats my plan.

fkshiu 07-24-2008 12:26 AM

I'd go for a single MH pendant on some kind of a quick lift hanging system like this:

http://www.jlaquatics.com/phpstore/s...t_ID=sl-zslift

You can easily lift it up and down for viewing purposes.

A small DE pendant like a lumenmax would give you good coverage but would still be small enough for top-down viewing even the pendant in place.

alright thats what i will do i think.. thats pretty much what i had planed anyway.... i was looking at the ada solar I light but its $500.

i think i will probaably go with a 150W because i do have LPS and zoas goging in this tank too.. what should i do for a ballast?

LeeR 07-27-2008 03:01 AM

Some new pictures.. Water is super cloudy from the garbage seachem reefsalt i bought.. Biggest waste of 70 bucks. Im pretty much waiting for sand, I need more of a reason then sand to drive out to J&L though. I would like to use Indo Pacific Black .. just to be a bit different.

Unless you want a more blue look, I'd actually go with an 175w electronic ballast and an Iwasaki 15k bulb. According to Sanjay's results, you get more PAR than any 150w setup but will actually use LESS electricity than a standard 150w HQI ballast.

I had 175w TAR ballast with the Iwasaki bulb over a 15" deep tank (not much deeper than yours) and my LPS and zoas did fine once acclimated. Since the focus of your tank will be the clams, they sould be your main concern and thus you should strive for as much PAR as possible.

Alright a bit of a change im going to be getting a Giesemann 230... couldn't pass it up i have always wanted a Giesemann.

Brent F 08-02-2008 06:29 PM

The light looks great. the shape of your light matches the tank nicely.

LeeR 08-02-2008 06:42 PM

ya it is a interesting fixture i do wish they would have put better reflectors in it.. the t5s really dont do much of anything.. ther sorta wedged up into the side and are being blocked.

the actual structure and build of the fixture is awsome... looks and the waight make it seem bulitproof.

gotta switch the MH bulb out though.. i hate the color.. i think its a 13k...

i think im going to go for phoenix 14.5K anyone have exp with this bulb?

Jason McK 08-15-2008 04:38 PM

Great setup very clean.

Keep the pic coming

J

Marlin65 08-15-2008 04:39 PM

I run one and others here do as well I don't know of anyone that is not happy with the phoenix bulb for the price.

Sean 08-15-2008 04:43 PM

When you see it from the top, you can see that the tank is anything but boring. Great job!

LeeR 09-12-2008 09:35 PM

few update pics. Im thinking i need some sort of ss on the rock to the right.. maybe i will try a monticap... i have never had much luck with sps.. but i will try again on a wee small frag.

LeeR 10-05-2008 10:06 PM

thanks man, I still have your nets by the way.

Midknight 10-05-2008 10:12 PM

Don't know if it would me safe picking them up...
Might get caught on a clam on the way out.

04scoobysti 10-05-2008 10:39 PM

Did that clam come on that rock? Just asking 'cause it looks like it has bored itself into the rock like in the wild.

LeeR 10-05-2008 10:49 PM

Theres only 2 to get caught on though.

I put it above a crack hole sort of thing in the rock and it wedged its self in there pretty good.. its also grown alot.

nice tank! not everyday you see a froggy in a reef. And I don't think Ive ever seen a clam and a frog in the same tank before.

LeeR 10-19-2008 02:12 AM

Theres also a starrie blenny, pom pom crab and a sexy shrimp. the pom pom crawls on the frogfish. the froggy has never shown interest in the crab. the blenny plays you cant catch me with the frogfish.. its pretty funny to watch.

OCDP 10-19-2008 04:21 PM

This tank is sweet. I like the style, has a "simple" kind of feel to it.. I like how it's shallow, and going rimless really adds to the feel of things. Nice selection of coral/inverts and fish! Loving all the colours...

Yes, I'm a bit jealous.
