Aw....a proud mama....again:biggrin:
|
I have 7 babies left, they turn 15 days old today. Not too bad for being completely unprepared  I really hope these 7 grow up. I wonder if any will turn out to have their mother's interesting color morph? It's like onyx only she is an oscellaris.
Link to AA thread-->http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php...&#entry2198581If you click on the photobucket link at the last post I made you can see a crappy video of the babies fighting for territory. http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/1899/parents2.jpg "The Parents" http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/5862/newbornfry.jpg Newborn larvae http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/8061/10dayoldfry2.jpg About to come into his first stripe http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/1671/10dayoldfry.jpg 10 days old (newly morphed) http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/3...dayoldfry4.jpg At 14 days old (yay, 2nd stripe!) Soooo cute! They are acting like typical clowns now, fighting over the corners of the tank as their "territory". |
That's really awesome!! Awesome.
|
Good job!! I made it to 7 days with mine and then ran out of food and coincidentally so did the LFS that I got the food from originally (wouldn't you know I was an hour behind the person who beat me to it). Did not realize they go through food so fast or I would have got more the first time.
I hope your 15 make it all the way!!! I wish I had some tiny little clowns :( it would be awesome to have a few of those swimming around my tank. |
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!! Keep us updated!
|
Great job Kelly!....do you wake up in the middle of the night to feed them:lol:
|
Thanks everyone! :)

Believe it or not, I didn't have rotifers either. (Nowhere to buy live ones here.) All I had on hand that was small enough was reefroids for a first food. I fed that almost exclusively the first 4 days, then fed that plus newly hatched BBS and some stuff called "better than brine" (a dry food). Now I'm feeding cyclopeeze (freeze dried, nobody is eating it yet), attempting crushed flake, reefroids and still BBS. I did try the frozen rotifers a couple times, but they made the tank just stink within 2 hours, so I stopped. 7 isn't exactly a great number percentage-wise, but I'll be happy if they live. Edit: Also feeding frozen BBS as of the 5th 2nd edit: New pic for 19 days old http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/5347/1004683n.jpg http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/7955/1004668.jpg http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/7404/1004699.jpg |
The baby clowns are now officially a month old!
In other news I have added more seahorses. Now I have a small "herd" in the 72g of 2 pairs of pretty kudas. My daughter had fun naming them. There are 2 yellow males, 1 orange female and one sand colored female. http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/5339/1004731g.jpg "Peaches" http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/9134/1004739j.jpg everyone already loves the food dish http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/4615/1004745m.jpg "Spots and Peaches" http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/9858/1004749.jpg "Sunshine" http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/364/1004750x.jpg "Spots" (shy little guy) I was going to try mixing with Tigertails in the long term, but with a little more research decided against it and ended up returning them to the store. Now I just need to fatten up these new ones. If they are anything like Suzy (the sand colored girl I had already) that shouldn't take too long. She's learned to follow the pipette around. It's so cute. http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/180/wwwwuj.jpg Suzy before she changed color to "sand" http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/8938/1004558.jpg/ Another color Suzy has worn http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/5779/1004807w.jpg "Sunshine" --this male is pretty interested in Suzy. I caught them "dancing" a few days ago and he had his pouch open. They did not transfer or anything but I expect they will in time after some more pair bonding. I really hope the new ones keep their pretty colors. :D |
That's so cool about the baby clownfish. It looks like they're doing well  and your sea horses are beautiful.
|
Those are some happy looking seahorses, I absolutely love the colours. Great job with the baby clowns also!
|
yey! ponies! Your clowns are super cute as well.
Your new seahorses are gorgeous. I especially like Sunshine. Soooo beautiful. How are they all adjusting? Oh, and where'd you get the hitching posts?? Also, why'd you decide against the Tigertails?? Any specific reasoning? I love ours! |
Thanks all! :) I could not resist these beautiful colorful ponies. They appear to be adjusting very well and so far have not changed color. The orange one went straight to the food dish--from the bag! I guess she knew what she was doing  They aren't quite as personable as Suzy yet, but we are very happy with them.
The yellow hitch I found in Big Als and the orange is a Decoral "octopus coral" that a member on seahorse.org was nice enough to let me buy from them. The orange coral is their "home base" and they sleep there. As to the Tigertails they were super cute but after reading about all the possible issues I might have with them (and mixing species) I decided to just go with the Kudas. |
Reefroids! I find it amazing that you got those baby clowns going on reefroids. Good work.

Update: Big tank move coming up. (ugh) We are moving to an acreage--this may or may not mean disaster for us in the hobby as I do not know if the water there is even usable. (double ugh)
The seahorses have all decided to be a darker color as of late. I am attributing this to the fickle nature of seahorses in regards to being the colour YOU want them to be, my black tank background, some cyano presence in my tank and the dark color most of the rocks have taken on. Seems to range anywhere from a creamy yellowish white (usually this color when they "dance"), to greenish/"rock" colored to chocolatey dark brown with some neat silvery striping. It's too bad they didn't stay those stunning colors--but at least now I know they can be those colors. Sunshine appears to be pregnant and his belly grows by the day. He'll likely give birth some time this week or next week. I have been tossing around the idea of selling the SH's due to our move, but every time I contacted someone to sell them they could not take them at the time. I was not terribly put out  as I really don't want to sell them at all. I've decided to risk doing the move with them. If all goes well I will keep them. If not then I will sell them. I really hope all goes well. I've wanted ponies for such a long time and to have to get rid of them so soon after getting them--well let's just say that would plain suck. |
Good luck with the move. Buy a 20 stage ro/di if need be. You can't leave us now!
As for those baby clowns...that is hella sweet! They're adorable good job. |
Thx Lastlight
Re-update: Oh my freaking g... !! I cannot believe some people! We gave notice and signed a paper stating we'd be leaving our current place by the 27th (have it empty and cleaned that day) of this month. Everything was all set so we could move out to this acreage, it'd been planned for over 2 weeks already. Then I got a message today saying "Oh I decided to sell the place...so...uh...sorry". :surprise: Now we have to leave our place with only 6 days to find a new one. I cannot even believe this is happening....I'm in shock..... Sorry for the vent, I just really needed it. |
That's a super low thing to do without ANY notice. Hoping for a positive ending to the story. These things are always complicated by the pets we've decided to keep as well.
I remember when I was maybe 14 and my family was moving in the freezing winter. I had all the cichlids from my 72 gallon in a rubbermaid in our van. The seller went a bit psycho on my parents and wouldn't give us the keys. Three hours in the van hoping my fish made it ok. They did! |
that sucks!!definatelly a low blow!!
|
Oh man....that really sucks Kelly....I hope yous two find something....soon
|
Whoa.........sorry guys. Best of luck finding something super fast!!!! Moving is stressful enough as it is........
|
I always thought that if you are renting, they have to give you 30 days notice.
Your thread was a good read. Thanks |
Thanks for the sentiments :smile::redface:

I have good news though! After calling every family member and getting everyone working together we found a place! It's here in town, so now I don't have to worry about the water being bad anymore. Some time this week we will be moving everything over. |
There's the happy ending. That must be a relief...
|
Such a relief! I had hardly slept at all for two days I was so worried. Tonight I think I will finally get some rest.
