get a yellow wrasse or a pair of leopard wrasses |
Your tank build is looking great, nice aquascaping.

Tank seems to be cycling nicely. I don't think I am going to see any spikes due to using rocks that were cooked as well as rocks transferred from another tank. Exposure to the air during the transfer was less than 1 min.
I am now having my first algae bloom. I don't think I've had this particular one in any of the other tanks. The sand on the bottom is starting to look like a freshly planted lawn. I don't see any of this on the rocks, only the sand. Single pieces of algae about 1/4" high. I was thinking that it might be time to add some CUC just for the sand. I have other snails (Turbo, etc) that will do a great job on the rocks. The open sand bed I have is approx 20" x 8" with other smaller patches of sand. The sand bed is 2" deep. Any suggestions on what to add to help keep the sand turned over and clean? |
That's pretty nice setup.....

The tank looks beautiful. Great job. Fish suggestions: Potter's Angel. We had a flame angel, my son loved the color and the fish was a total jerk. Picked at the corals, chased other fish, nipped at the snails. We took him back and got the potter's and now all is happy.

I don't really want to add any fish at this time so I think I add half a dozen Nassarius snails tomorrow.

I am currently using 2 Koralia 4 powerheads and will be adding another Koralia 1. I have been considering replacing these with the Red Sea WaveMaster Pro / Maxijet Powerhead Package - Deluxe with 4-MaxiJet 1200 Powerheads. However, in doing a little research on these I have seen alot of them used for sale on other forums. Is there something wrong with them that people don't want them. Is anyone using this wavemaker or is there something else I should be considering.

Tank has now been set up and running for 2 months. Finally added my 1st finned inhabitant, a Pyjama Cardinal. He's been in QT for the past 2 1/2 weeks and yesterday made it into the big tank.
I'm really having trouble getting a decent shot of anything in the tank with only the actinics on. I have no idea what settings to put the camera (Sony A350) on. When I shoot in Auto, all pictures are too blue. Any help with the settings of the camera would be very much appreciated. http://i417.photobucket.com/albums/p...C06670Copy.jpg |
Finally starting to figure out the white balance in the new camera so I thought I's post some pictures of the corals in the tank.

It is beautiful! Is everything still in your holding tank or is it in your main tank?
Cause it would be nice to see whole tank pictures. I really like your tank, I have not seen to many of them around here. |
Everything except for the zoanthids, which are still in the contest tank, is now in the corner tank. I have been trying to get a picture of the tank, but still haven't taken a picture of it that I like. This is my project for the weekend, to get one good picture.

Nice pics. I love that little scopas. So cute. Always been my favorite tang.

Pics look great man.....I second the request for a FTS.

Just did some testing and I found I have problems with the Calcium and Carbonate Hardness levels. I am using a one year old Hagen test kit. The Calcium level is at 300 and the Carbonate is at 80 mm/L (ppm). I do have Seachem Reef Complete for raising calcium, but if I'm understanding things correctly, this could reduce my alkalinity levels. What to do?
I am trying to keep this simple, without adding all kinds of extra equipment. Your advice would be much appreciated on this. |
you want to use the KISS rule then.,
drip kalk thur a reactor. look at my tank with all the SPS and ALl i do is drip kalk. 24/7 1 drip every 1.5 seconds and levels are at 8.5DKH CAL 400 |

Sorry, what does this mean "ROFLMFAO". Anyway, this afternoon I took alot of FTS's, shooting every corner, the whole tank and part of the tank. Turned the actinics off and the color looked great. Downloaded them into the computer and every shot you can see the shinny silver tripod legs.
Just finished taking another batch and with any luck they will turn out. |

Ok here they are. The stand has not yet been skinned. I'm still trying to figure out how to skin it and have a viewable refugium. There will also be a hood built to cover the lights.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

Very Nice. Going to look terrific when filled in.

From looking through your pics it appears that you have your sump for the most part "soft" plumbed with flex? You could (assuming there is enough space height wise) lift the sump/fuge up(with layers of plywood), pull it forward, flush to the front of the stand and then "picture frame" it with a removable front panel?

Wife and I love your setup and hope to do something similar someday when rich :) Thanks for keeping us up to date with pictures. |
Trust me, you don't have to be rich. Just one step at a time.

? What is the blue thing top right ?
Really nice tank, |
Blue cloves from Wicked Frags. Grows extremely fast and a beautiful blue color. Easy to take care of, as in no special care.

Here's pictures of the additions to the tank this week. I also got a Monti.porites from Coral Master but couldn't get a good picture of it.
