Christy that piece has some real sentimental value for me, the original "wild colony" went RTN and I was only able to save about a 1/4" nub which has taken about 2 years to grow back into what you see in the picture. Several times it would start to grow ok and then get knocked into something and it had to start all over again. Anyway it's about 3" across now and is now almost as big as when I bought it but is nicer now.

Delphinus 04-29-2008 11:14 PM

That one really is exquisite..

Snappy 04-30-2008 06:43 AM

Thanks Tony

Here's a picture of a starfish taking a walk across an A.valida in my reef today. I thought it looked rather surreal and I hope you'll like it too.
And just for fun a close up of the star.

Thanks Steve. Camera is a Sony, nothing fancy. That last picture is of a coral I got from you in our trade. I believe you were calling it purple rain or something like that.

Thanks, glad you think so. It's almost impossible to get a top down of the whole tank so a reflection shot is as close as I can come, although so many of the corals have grown so close to the surface that getting a good reflection is even a challenge now.

Der_Iron_Chef 06-13-2008 02:24 AM

Greg, just wondering something. Are there certain colors of SPS that are more difficult to come by than others? And what sort of mix do you go for? Like, do you ever think, "Hmm, I've got a lot of purple and not enough red..."?

Looks incredible, btw :)

Thanks Drew, I go for all colours and various shades of each so when you stand back at a distance you can get the full affect. With the many different shades you pick up when you look closely you loose the distant "blended" view and can see a lot of subtleties with a mix of shades, sizes & shapes. Everyone talks about "aquascape", I do my best to create "coralscape." Perhaps not everyones cup of tea but I enjoy myself.

Amazing tank.....just how long have you had it up?

Snappy 07-01-2008 05:39 AM

Thanks Ian, The tank itself will be up 4 years this October and I started acquiring sps in July 2005.
