Nice Pajama Cardinal. I had a couple, lost them in a ammonia spike.

Here's an updated picture of the sump in the RSM stand. I shortened the lines so get rid of some clutter. The ATO float is in the back left corner and the skimmer is a HOT hanging behind the cabinet. I didn't have enough height in the stand to put the skimmer inside the sump. The reason for so many lines in the sump is it feeds and returns from three tanks, has an ATO line and there is a skimmer supply and return.

Here's the tide pool tank rearranged to fit the Paly rock I got from Neil on the weekend. http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...pyofely036.jpg

Puff 03-26-2008 02:49 AM

wow! great tank(s)!!!

that brittlestar is friggin huge!!! any problems with it eating any unsuspecting inhabitants?

so far ive only found two small micro brittlestars. but ive been debating about whether to get a bigger one or not.

Brent F 03-26-2008 02:58 AM

The green brittlestar is a carnivore and will prey on fish. The other varieties are scavengers and are reef safe.

Wow three clams ! I just started my max a week ago and i cant wait to add a nice clam.

Is the lighting sufficient for them?

The clams aren't in the RSM. They are in the 9 inch deep tank next to it with metal halide lighting (my tide pool refugium hooked in with the RSM). You can see it better a couple pictures back. I've been told you can keep a clam near the top in a RSM.

Congrats on teh new RSM. I've been really happy with mine so far.

Brent F 03-31-2008 06:42 AM

One of my turbos likes coming right out of the water. Here it is from earlier today on the shore. I must not be feeding him enough. He is regularly out eating the algae above the water line.
http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...ofsnail003.jpg

Brent F 04-05-2008 01:01 AM

Here is why clams are better kept in an open top tank. The top half of this picture is a clam viewed over the top of the glass. The bottom half is the same clam viewed through the glass. You can't see any of the greens when looking through glass. Florescent blues look dull purple through glass.

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j..._F/clam013.jpg

Brent F 04-08-2008 05:39 AM

I was having problems with my light (ballast and bulbs) and found it wasn't intense enough for the clams so I upgraded the light over my shallow tank from the Viper 70 to a 250 watt metal halide. The light is too intense for the zoas and mushrooms I had in there so I did some major rearranging. Here's what the three tanks look like now.

My snails always get above the water line. all types margs and turbos. the new set looks great. quite the sand bed in the one tank.

ElGuappo 04-08-2008 09:15 PM

your last post i believe is of the max and it looks like you have gotten rid of one of the original PH's and added a koralia in its place is this the case?

No, it is a "Hydor FLO" attached to the stock Red Sea powerhead nozzle

The deep sandbed in the Nanocube 6 is for a jawfish

Brent F 04-13-2008 04:35 AM

Here's my latest addition hiding under a clam. It's a Frogfish. The Pajama Cardinal had to be moved to another tank to make room for this guy. They can swallow fish close to their own size so aren't compatible with much else. Great fish for a clam and urchin only tank.
http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...ent_F/frog.jpg

Here's a picture showing the diffence in light between the Red Sea Max and the 250W metal halide over the open tank
http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j..._F/clam003.jpg

Brent F 04-21-2008 12:24 AM

I'm tired of my urchins tearing up my SPS so decided to setup another tank to move the urchins to. I picked up a 90 gal, a 67 gal and ASM G1-X skimmer used for a third the cost of my RSM. This will be setup as a FOWLR tank with a refugium in the sump setup as a second display.

So this is tank #4? Sweet! I'm planning tank #2, and am out of room already.

Brent F 04-22-2008 04:43 AM

Finally got a jawfish for the deep sand bed in my nanocube 6

Near the top of page 7 there's a picture of the sand base. It's a mix of sand, live rock rubble and crushed shells

ElGuappo 04-22-2008 05:33 PM

sounds good. i was just wondering if your rockscape was on the glass bottom,or had a rock base as the jawfish will dig out under EVERYTHING. it took 3 monthes but mine finally fell due to all the mining. had remove everything and redo the entire structure.

Brent F 04-22-2008 05:50 PM

The tubeworm is sitting on the bottom glass.

There are three rocks in the tank. The biggest central rock is epoxyed to the back glass of the tank so won't move. The other two are smaller rocks sitting on the surface so will need to be turned right way up every so often as they get tunneled under.

He was busy the first night and already dug a couple holes.

Brent F 04-24-2008 07:05 PM

Frog Fish...

Brent - Just wanted to say hello and ask if that Chromis is living on BORROWED time with your Frog Fish???
Kent a.k.a. NaCl+H2O Fish

Brent F 04-27-2008 03:04 AM

Kent, Welcome to Canreef.

The Chromis is a great way to tell if the Frogfish needs feeding. When the Frogfish starts to show interest in the Chromis I know it is time to feed the Frogfish.

When the Chromis disappears I will know that I waited too long ;) I find the Frogfish more active and easier to feed frozen silversides with a live fish in the tank.
