wow that sounds like a great deal
|
you're tank has inspired me to start a new tank... haha good job
do you have any pictures of the tank and the lights? |
i'll try and grab a picture of the full setup today as ive been cleaning up my room from the mess for the last like week since the move haha...IT WAS THAT MESSY!! but now its all cleaned and i only have this 30g running.
I tested my water for to see the Ca consumption rate through a day. It dropped from 400ppm to 380ppm in a day. That is with my Ca reactor running too, should i test for a few more days to see if it is a constant 20ppm drop and then increase the bubble rate inside my CA reactor to compensate for the 20ppm drop? |
What i would do is bring it back up to 400 and test again in another day. if the CAl is downing that fast then youwill to get the reactor pumping more CAl Im not a Reactor expert may be Steveo,Tony, Doug, Snappy, Niloc, can explain it betterIm not that great at it...good work otherwise
try this out its takes you through a reactor set up . HTH http://home.comcast.net/~jdieck1/reactor.html |
heres an update on the tank, i tried to set the white balance of my camera to represent the real thing as close as possible but in person the tank is actually a little more blue then white.
here you go enjoy equipment http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1062.jpg right hand side http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1052.jpg left hand side http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1054.jpg side shot http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1055.jpg |
that looks sweet! I love that stand.
Your clam dosnt look to happy with all that flow. haha |
i have 4 clams in total 3 of which are fully open while one got stun by an SPS roughly a week or 2 before the move (the one in the right hand side photo) haha... but i would say that one clam is actually slowly recovering then dying soo so hopefully it'll be good:biggrin:
|
heres a little updates:)
i recently added 3 new fish to the tank 2 chalk bass 1 cleaning wrasse the tanks been doing extremely well..the skimmer is pulling out some crazy colored skimmate and every parameter seems to be stable Ca: 380ppm Mg: 1350ppm NH3:undetectable on salifert kits NO3: undetectable on salifert kits PO4: undetectable on salifert kits colors of the SPS has improved tremendously and the growth rate is unbelievable..on my millipora colony it has grown a good 1/8"+ on every tip...heres some pictures of the tank. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1153.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1162.jpg |
heres an update:
The tank has been running without a problem other then some on my end...(like not washing the GFO for long enough) Everything is coloring up fast and some of my corals in the 2 months its been running now has grown a good 1/2"+ But all parameters stay steady Ca at 380~400, Mg at 1350~1400, Alk now at 10.5 instead of 13 which it was at about 2 weeks ago. The only parameter which swings is the temp as right now its cooled by fans from 76~ sometimes 80 if the fans dont turn on for some reason. Im looking into a chiller now..im looking at the JBJ 1/15HP or 1/20HP, but i wonder how i can run that chiller without another powerhead in my tank. Last night i took out about 10lbs worth of LR..now none of the rocks are touching the 4 sides of the glass i like it more for maintance now!. heres some photos enjoy guys a front tank shot: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1215.jpg L-side: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1217.jpg R-side: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1218.jpg |
It looks great. Nice job aquascaping.
I have never personally liked BB, but on yours it really looks good. |
How do you keep your bare bed so clean?
|
i dont do anything special, i dont even have much CUC in there..6 snails? and 1 hermit which keeps murdering my snails.. i have a sally lightfood + whitetail drawf angle which is constantly on the work. but other then that i dose a source of carbon to my tank, vodka, sugar, and vinegar + amino acids i dont see to get much coraline growth on the glass but im getting orange, red, pink, dark purple coraline spots all over my LR more of the orange ones then pink for some reason.
|
heres a few pictures that i took of 2 of my SPS last night. not the best looking photos
but the SPS are starting to color up so im excited! and cant wait til they become small colonies. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1225.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29.../-IMGP1227.jpg |
Quote:
nice frags there! "starting" to colour up? lol |
Quote:
maybe that got a bit confusing, when i stated that u dosed a source of carbon i was using vodka, sugar, and vinegar along with that i was dosing a source of vitamins/ amino to see wat the difference would be. ive never tried korallen zucht's coral vitalizer, but if it smells like vinegar most likely its a form of acetate(carbon source). companies like zeovit and ultralith use products like acetate for a couple of there products as there system runs on fueling the bacteria in the system to lower the NO3 and PO4. |
so i got bored again tonight and decided to take some more top down shots of some of my SPS. enjoy guys
can someone ID this one?...cuz i cant http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1238.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1239.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1241.jpg |
heres a little update, during JLs nano stream sale i went and picked up a 6055 with a single controller, its a great powerhead but the flow it puts out is a little too straight, so i did started to do a search for nanostream mods and came across the one on RC. i saw what they were doing and decided to do the extreme nanostream mod. and here it is. i hope it does what its supposed to do( widen flow, increase flow).
this mod only voids the front housing of the tunzes powerheads and they are only 17$ to replace which isnt that bad. the pipe has now been increased to 1.5" instead of the original 1" heres a comparison to the original housing. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1272.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1273.jpg |
Interesting mod...how did you do that? It looks like extra rings from the side profile...
|
with this mod i had to dremel away the original plastic housing until the 1.5" coupling could fit, after that i used ABS/PVC cement to bond the 2 plastics together then painted with krylon paint as we cant find black ABS/PVC glue in canada.
|
i installed the front propeller housing today into my tunze 6055 and wow..the flow is incredible its wide and strong, i was barely getting any flow to the other side of my tank and now i am getting plenty. it makes the koralia 4 look like a joke with its wide flow.
|
so heres the photo of the tunze 6055 with the new front propeller housing, and i also took a photo of my tank to show the amount of flow im getting now with the tunzes or tried to show it...from a top view.
my lights turned off before i could get a photo with only 6055 on i'll get that tomorrow. meanwhile any comments? http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1286.jpg still http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1290.jpg 6055 + K4 http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP1287.jpg |
spotless and gorgeous!
|
Looks like it's immersed in crystal...wow spectacular...
|
What a gorgeous little tank. It looks huge for 30 gallons!
|
thanks guys for the comments!
i guess the only thing left to do now is to get those SPS to grow. heres a question for all of you:razz: if you were in my shoes would u switch the 14k phoenix to 10k bulb with high par just for growth? then later on switch to 20k for color then back to the phoenix? or just wait it out and let them go at there own pace. |
its been a while so i decided to update the thread. So since middle of June is supposed to be the hottest its been for 20 yrs i decided to get a JBJ Arctica to get prepared for this and in return it has kept my temp in +/-2dF at night time being 77.8 to MH being on at 79.8 ish. I also upgraded my deltec MCE300 to an MCE600 along with a media box. This skimmer is far better than the MCE300 with the trade off of it producing a bit more noise. The media box is used with Zeolites for me to use along with my C dosing (vinegar + vodka +sugar).
so i guess now i'll put the photos, enjoy:smile: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5143.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5139.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5142.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5141.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5138.jpg |
that is a Cool looking overflow box! Tank looks great!
|
heres a little update,
ive updated this on RC but forgot about it here. Its been about...2 weeks now since i took these pictures enjoy. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5789.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5787.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5786.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5817.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5814.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5812.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5806.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5808.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5804.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5802.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5803.jpg |
Your tank makes me wish I could keep sps alive.
good job. |
a double post if its alright as its two different events this one happened today:lol:
lately i have found my Ca,Mg, and Alk decreasing, even when i up the Co2 in my little acro-cal CR. I figured that the little guy isn't keeping up with the rate of the uptake of these elements, so i took the time to look into bigger calcium reactors. i looked at both DIY and pre-made and i really liked the design of the jetstream Nano calcium reactor so i decided to make one thats similar. using 2.5" acrylic cylinder and a maxi-jet 1200 and a few trips to rona, home depot, and canadian tire this was the result. i havent tested it yet but hopefully it'll work. i'll keep you guys posted. -An add on chamber is in the making process to increase the amount of media this reactor can handle as well as using up all the CO2 that passes through this one. -Also thanks to Chin Lee with explaining the plumping parts! THANKS! http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5819.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5820.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5821.jpg this one shows the recirc's bleed valve to de-gas the cylinder in the case that bubbles get stuck up there. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5822.jpg |
So heres a little update for everyone
After reading a few threads regarding people who thought they didnt have red bug getting red bugs, i decided to go to my vet to purchase a few pills of interceptor to dose it into my tank just to be on the safe side. Im in my 2nd week of the treatment and with just 1 more to go, i can say i am seeing a difference in color. Im not sure if its due to the medication, or i had red bugs? never saw them in the tank. But what interested me was upon dosing roughly 10x the recommended dosage of interceptor into my 30G, the result was a little crazy, the colors reacted the same way as if i dosed zeospur2 but with the twist that it morphed some of my SPS's colors for the better. After the dosage the colors stayed and well all i can say is i am happy about the color shift, no one ever complains about more colorful corals. So the only thing that is new to the tank is a colony of unknown SPS that i replaced my pink millie with as it was growing too fast and shading the corals around it. and it also helped to balance the colors around the tank as it is a tealish/green coral placed on the side with most of my blue corals. So heres some photos and enjoy guys. new SPS ( ID?please if you know the species ) http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5888.jpg tri color http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5891.jpg acro SP (turned from light blue to platium/blue *i believe its not bleached as its only the tips that are that color and growing fast) http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5893.jpg tenius http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5894.jpg pink porci turned rainbow http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5898.jpg teal...(looks like a millie but doesnt grow uniform, can someone remind me the name? thanks! is it prostrapora? i know it starts with a P haha...) turned sunset http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5900.jpg this one didnt change http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5902.jpg |
Great little tank build. I missed this one. Nice job and a good read. We will have very close to the same, except mines more of a cube shape. Look forward to following yours now.
|
Shweeeeeeeeeet bro! luv your setup.
|
I can't believe I missed this... gorgeous tank!
|

|
Great build and your corals are spectacular. I like the bare bottom.

As another update, i recently added in 2x 24w T5HO supplements onto the tank to help bring out the red and purple colors. I added one Gman Pure actinic, and one KZ fiji purple (i love this bulb!). Here are some pictures of it. Today i decided to spent the whole day building a new collection cup for my MCE600 i posted that in the DIY section if you are interested take a look, so far it looks promising. T5HO supplement addon: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5993.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...y/IMGP5997.jpg MCE600 cup (ill just repost the pictures here details are in the DIY thread) http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...p/IMGP6014.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...p/IMGP6015.jpg Comparison of DIY and Original http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...p/IMGP6017.jpg foamhead after 5 minutes http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...p/IMGP6018.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...p/IMGP6020.jpg |
