No problem.
Everything you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask about my little reef is right here.

( I don't think most people look at the FTOTM page anymore)
There are a few more of my favorite corals there too:wink:

I look and I even read it

Snappy 05-24-2007 04:19 PM

I know you guys do but I honestly think a lot of people either don't know how to get into the page or choose not to. Same with the POTM, I received several PM's about both home page pictures and it seems they saw the photo and just moved on instead of clicking on it. Likely the person that asked for my light specs didn't make the (Snappy) connection but I think the majority of people don't bother with the ftotm page. Most just look to see if there are any new posts that might interest them and go directly to them and then leave. Not a big deal but I just find it a little surprizing. Personally, I am always looking for ideas so I need to see what other people are doing in their tanks.
Anyway enough of my thread hi-jacking, people can get back to playing more show & tell.

Delphinus 05-24-2007 04:24 PM

Dude you totally have my vote to be TOTM some day. :p

niloc16 05-24-2007 07:00 PM

montipora confusa

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...f/100_1860.jpg

this monti is new but the base is purple with green polyps, for the past week it has been my fav. anyone on the name of it?

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...f/100_1852.jpg

michika 05-24-2007 07:05 PM

Colin,
Those are beautiful photos! Tell me you are fragging the first one PLEASE!!

niloc16 05-24-2007 08:04 PM

i wish i could get the guts to frag it. i havent fragged a monti yet and i'm nervous about killing it. anyone have a good way to frag it?

michika 05-24-2007 08:35 PM

I can understand your fear, its such a beautiful piece.

Whenever I've seen cap coral fragging usually it involves people pulling the "leaves" back like when you pull leaves off a head of lettuce....

Talk to Wendell, he just fragged up a piece that looks just like yours

Snappy 05-25-2007 01:25 AM

Colin it looks similar to what people are selling as "pokerstar" monti. I am not sure of the exact genus, I'll have to look it up.
Sweet piece of M confusa. Is that taken under actinics?
Monti's are super easy to frag and heal up well. Just get the cutters out and hack away. I'll take one. Anything of mine you want to do a trade on?

wickedfrags 05-25-2007 02:01 AM

This is what I believe to be the pokerstar monti.

There is nothing to be sorry about. I put "no problem" in bold letters but I wasn't yelling. I just meant no problem.

Thanks but it's not that big yet. It's just a little bigger than a baseball.

That would be sad, considering all the work that went into it. Esp. considering its one of the best write ups on a featured tank I have seen.

 Great monti pics guys. Wholley mackeral those are nice. And some of the photo work on this thread is outstanding.

DanG 05-29-2007 04:10 AM

This is from shortly after I got it when it had 6 heads, it's now up to about 15.

SuperFudge 05-30-2007 02:39 PM

Favorite today :)

I am lost as to what this coral is, is not acropora.

It will not cluster, branch or table.....it just forms mounds.
Definatly a unusual piece, possibly Isopora ?

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...alshots021.jpg

Marc.

Snappy 05-30-2007 02:48 PM

Marc,
what's it smell like out of the water?

SuperFudge 05-30-2007 02:51 PM

a$$ :P

J/K, this one has grown onto my rock and i havent pulled it out to smell latley....

It looks as if Isopora is a subgenus in the acropora family....so i guess still an acropora, just a weird one..lol.

Isopora have a distinct odour ?

Der_Iron_Chef 05-30-2007 03:42 PM

SPS is certainly not my strong point, but it looks like it could be some sort of encrusting montipora. Or maybe I'm just on crack :)

Delphinus 05-30-2007 03:47 PM

Montiporas tend to have an amusing if slightly precocious bouquet. An Isopora of decent vintage tends to have evokations of blackberry and apples.

Der_Iron_Chef 05-30-2007 03:54 PM

lol! Oh wait, I get it:

Montipora = Cabarnet Sauvignon
Isopora = Valpolicella
